    I have two tips for eating in Ecuador.
    1. At lunchtime if you see a restaurant that says almuerzos that means you're getting soup, rice with meat (rarely it will be something else like spaghetti) and salad, juice and some places have dessert as well. Not all these places are created equal, if it looks busy and/or there are taxis parked outside, that'll be a good spot for lunch. Rarely you'll find almuerzos for over $5.
    2. Seafood restaurants give you gigantic portions. If there's a dish on the menu that you see for $6 or more that's probably enough food for two hungry/hangry grown ups.

    Nice video! I'm glad that you enjoyed your visit to my beloved country. You should come back to know much more about Quito, Cuenca, the beaches, the jungle, etc. How did you decide to come to Ecuador?

      Thanks so much! We had a great trip. A week was probably too short because yes, we did not get to see a lot of those sights you mentioned 😢 We wanted to take a trip to South America because none of us had been before! We had some family/friends that traveled to Ecuador recently so it seemed like a good reason to go 👍

    That’s a lot for traveling on the cheap, splitting costs. You had a cheap flight, so you don’t check bags and cheat the carry on system with an oversized “personal bag”. My flights with a check bag and an hour or less in Panama City is around $800. I spent three nights in Otavalo in relative luxury with my wife for a total of $800. This includes the taxi from the airport to Puerto Lago, frequent trips to the town, other locations, dinners with drinks at various places. Another $300 for flying from Guayaquil. The flights and the hotel were prepaid, so I did not pay anything except the balance of $200. Returning to Guayaquil, I stayed another two nights in a luxury apartment overlooking the river for two nights: $225. My ten days of travel in ease and mostly luxury, when counting all prepaid costs, was $2000. Ecuador is cheap without having to be cheap. I plan to stay in Mindo in the Cloud Forest resort on the next trip. I don’t feel experiences are lost by staying in nice accommodations and not cooking my food. I average about $100/day in planning and always fall short of that mark. I met awesome people.

    I just found your video. Wasnt thinking about writting but when I heard how much you paid for the ride to the volcano it surprised me a lot (really, cant believe it). I think you all paid way too much ($114 per person?) I googled it and it says is an hour ride. That tixe driver was abusive to all of you, I thought it was $114 for all the ride. An aunt, who once needed to go to Guayaquil from my city (a 3 hrs drive) and didnt want to go by bus, paid a tixe driver $100 - $120. They dont charge by the amount of ppl they carry with them but by the distance and time it takes. If it had been $114 for all four of you it would have been ok. At least you all got to enjoyed my country. ☺

    New York to Bogotá should be no more than $300, nor like $200 (if Quito is included than $300 is more normal but definitely not over $600).
    If you eat outside of “fancy” restaurants you can eat a meal for $5-$10 per person easily.
    For a similar Airbnb in Quito, if you book ahead a bit you should definitely be able to book for $30 give or take a few dollars.

    • @everydaypol
      @everydaypol  Před rokem +1

      Ohhh! I meant that we paid about $600 roundtrip through Bogotá and to Quito. The meals we had were definitely on the lower end too! Also, we planned this trip like 3 weeks before we went so agree that we definitely could have saved money there😂

      Before Covid, I was averaging $500/flight from JFK to Guayaquil through Bogota with Avianca, through Panama with Copa, or occasional direct 6.5 hours on United. Post Covid, I average $750 and stick to the greater reliability of Copa. The airlines all started doing their a-la-carte pricing, and Avianca went from the best to the worst in my book. I usually travel with a check bag and sometimes a carry on, depending on the number of gift I need to bring. But all the airlines have increased the prices and the price structure. You can get cheap flights, but you’re taking bare minimum baggage and you get no food or entertainment options.
      Meals, yes, you can get good meals cheap. It’s great stopping and getting snacks like pan de yuca and cafe on the road sides, or a full plate of food for a few dollars. But some of the “fancy” restaurants are worth the experience. An Italian themed restaurant with a fish pond in the whole ceiling and an interior with Venice vibes was worth the $80 for three adults (the wine was $30 so it’s still cheap!). Or the rooftop cafe at the Halloween party and a fine room included $225(complimentary sangria in costume, won another in the costume contest for both me and the wife, a food voucher for $30) cost me $7 additional because we order sushi. Live a little people, it’s about the experiences and not just saying you’ve been there.

    Taxi was OVER S400???? My English speaking tour guide charges $100 a day with his taxi. He does add $ for gas...

    • @everydaypol
      @everydaypol  Před rokem

      Yes, the tour guide charged us like $187 (which includes our tip to him😅) per person for a couple days! But he was the best!

    • @bertbert13bert
      @bertbert13bert Před rokem

      @@everydaypolunfortunately for you. You took that price to be per person and paid him that. Most likely it was supposed to be $180 total possibly per day plus gas. NOT per person. Most people quoted me from $100 to $180 per day when I went in November. For however many people were in the car/van. It wasn't such a bad thing that you spent extra money in the country but you definitely got Gringoed so to speak.
      Thanks for a fun video

    • @bertbert13bert
      @bertbert13bert Před rokem +1

      Actually I should add almost all taxies and other transport in Ecuador are flat fee per vehicle not per person. Other than busses and they are like $1 or less unless it is like over an hour ride then it is $5 or less

    • @andrewsmith9174
      @andrewsmith9174 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@bertbert13bert, you should add there’s a difference in the busses. The big, full sized buses are cheapest in localities. They can be $10-$20 between cities. A small bus, like a 12 passenger van may be $25-$30 depending on the destination. I paid a taxi for two from Quito airport to Otavalo (Puerto Lago) $50 each way. Paid the same for four from Guayaquil to Salinas in Carnaval. It’s all about your convenience and how long you want to take to get to your destination.

    Great editing and vibe, but watch out for camera work that pans back and forth too quickly. Hold that camera steady and pan back and forth very slowly. Also, that taxi to Cotopaxi overcharged you. $114 per person is crazy. You could hire a driver for an entire day for about that much. There’s 4 of you, right? So $114 per person means it was $456? That’s a monthly salary in Ecuador.

    • @everydaypol
      @everydaypol  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your comment! That’s a great point - it’s really weird but my camera has bad stabilization when I’m walking or at times when the camera is not on a tripod. I’m trying to resort to filming on my iPhone in those cases😂 The stabilization! And great point about taxi😅 Our guide was awesome, and we’ll know that for the future!

    • @FallofftheMap
      @FallofftheMap Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@everydaypol I have similar issues with camera control in my videos. I’ve switched to mostly using my iPhone as well to deal with stabilization issues. What the iPhone doesn’t help with, and what I was referring to in your video is something called rolling shutter. It’s a disorienting effect you get when you pan the camera around to quickly. If you can remember to move the camera very slowly as you move to the right or left you’ll avoid rolling shutter and your audience will be more likely to continue watching rather than clicking away because those sections of the video made them dizzy. Hopefully my camera tips are welcome and not annoying. Good luck with your channel.
