    Over the last year I have started to target Mutton Snapper more. Mutton Snapper are a smart Snapper that aren't easily fooled, and put up a great fight. The key is to present your bait as naturally as possible. For this reason I use very long flourocarbon leaders to keep my bait far away from the bait, and let the bait sway naturally in the current. One of the biggest challenges is handlining the leader because of the weight. I came across the FisherKing weight clips and have found my answer to this problem. They clip on and off very easily without damaging the line. They hold plenty of weight and once they're off you can reel down to the fish. Check out this video of how to use them while catching Mutton Snapper off Florida's Treasure Coast.

    What happens if the lead gets stuck in the bottom seems like a rubber band might break easier without losing the device and would be worried about the wear and tear on my guides with the swivel. Do you throw a sand ball down before you drop your Mutt rig every now and then

    • @CProFishingWithWayne
      @CProFishingWithWayne  Před 3 lety

      You can use a rubber band I guess. If it ever becomes an issue I may try that. I do chum chunks when anchored but not when drifting

    • @CProFishingWithWayne
      @CProFishingWithWayne  Před 3 lety

      The small power swivels I use are fine, but you can also tie a uni to uni.

    How do you attach the bank sinker clip to the balloon clip? Also, with that long leader, how do you get it to the bottom without it wrapping around your mainline? Thank you.

    • @CProFishingWithWayne
      @CProFishingWithWayne  Před 9 měsíci

      I just open up both sides of the bank clip and slide through the slot easy and turn slow, then close back.
      Put the bait on and let it drift all the way back in the current. Then attach the clip and let it go straight down. Just don’t let it go super fast. It won’t wrap.

    • @CProFishingWithWayne
      @CProFishingWithWayne  Před 3 lety

      Great point. Check out the spro power swivels. They’re super small and easily pass through. Should be fine with quality guides. If you’re using braid you can use a uni to uni knot instead of a swivel.

    Nice mutton. That seems like a good tool to not have to handline the fish. Wonder if you couldn't come up with a clip that released when it hit that first guide. But then you'd have a weight smashing in your boat unless you caught it. 👍

    • @CProFishingWithWayne

      No, you want just enough weight so the line is on a sleight angle and the weight is off the bottom enough to not bounce.

      I just buy the regular size five pack that comes with balloons. Then I add a heavy duty bank sinker clip. You can buy them with a clip but they were flimsy. There’s a larger clip for Grouper when you’re using 100 plus pound leader.
