    Do you keep letting line out when you are anchored or only drifting? And also you have 20lb leader what is you’re reel line size ?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for watching and asking a couple of great questions. I always let line out consistently, even when anchored, because you are still letting out into the current. You don't want your bait to stop and drag through the water. It looks unnatural. My line is 20 lb mono with a 20 lb fluoro leader. I use a couple of different reels. I have a small Penn 12H International, an Accurate Fury 600N, or I use a couple of different Penn Spinfisher V spinning reels, the sizes of those are 5500 and 8500. I recent uploaded a short seminar that goes into more detail and is more thorough on basics and tactics for targeting Mutton Snapper. Hi Heath, That was good info about catching Mutton Snappers. Could you please send the Mutton up to NJ so that I can catch them. I just read the Thursday fishing reports for my area and the Striped Bass are still north of me. By the time they come down, it will be freezing outside. I don't like to fish in the cold. You're so lucky to live in Florida. Tell Bella to work on those arm muscles for this weekend's fishing trip. Thanks, Mickey

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Před 5 lety

      Hi Mickey,
      Thanks a boat load for watching. That's a bummer that the cold weather is going to coincide with the migration south. Yes, I feel blessed to live here in Florida, I would not do well in the winters of any northern state. Honestly, a bad winter season, I feel can be just as awful as a hurricane. Bella is hilarious, she is a beast when it comes to yanking in the fish, and then she can turn on being a completely girly girl after. Until next time, tight lines & good vibes.
      PS. I'll try to tell them muttons and some warm weather to head your way.

    isnt 20 pound too light of leader?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Před 5 lety

      Not at all. 20 lb flourocarbon is what I use, I get em all day long. Sometime I get cut off by a kingfish, but that's all part of. less hardware and lighter line increases hook up ratio. Good luck & tight lines.

    • @SirLingPing
      @SirLingPing Před 4 lety

      @@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing If you fish around rocks and coral would you step up the leader weight to avoid frequent cut off? How heavy would you go?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Před 4 lety

      @@SirLingPing Thanks for watching and asking a great question. Personally, I would not move to a heavier leader. Mutton snapper have great eyesight and are super sketchy about feeding. Sometimes you get cut off by structure or other fish with teeth, but that's all part of fishing. If you go with a heavier leader, I would stick with flourocarbon 40 pound test. Again, this may decrease your hook-up ratio, but it will help with cut-offs, however it will not totally prevent them. Stay safe & healthy.... Take care & tight lines :)

    • @SirLingPing
      @SirLingPing Před 4 lety

      @@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Thanks a lot. I am fairly new to this and the local fishermen here in Jamaica tend to use very heavy handlines (80 lb test) and short leaders (12-18 inches). They do catch their fair share of mutton snappers but the action is usually slow with some days no bites at all. Will definitely try the lighter and long leaders.

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
