  • A short video showing brick slips being installed and pointed, the process was filmed in a time lapse style to show the brick slips being stuck to the wall and the sand and cement pointing put between the brickwork joints

    Lovely bit of work. Very neat

    Looks like 400 stretchers in that? 20 courses with 20 full bricks ? As a brickie you'd lay and joint that many in a shift so this looks a slower option, if it took day and a half. What was the reason for choosing slips?

      @SamDaviesBuilder  Před 11 dny +1

      The block wall was already built by previous builders, customer didn’t want to render it so this was the best option 😃

    My house has been k rended looked amazing but now it’s coming up to 4 years old it’s not looking the best shows water/damp marks around the windows and doesn’t seemed to go all winter😢 wish someone told me this before hand but when reading forums every says the same so am looking into a nice slip brick colour and was thinking can they be done over the k rend or does it all have to be smashed out? An are they expensive to buy plus install? Thanks

    • @SamDaviesBuilder
      @SamDaviesBuilder  Před 7 měsíci

      Yea that’s the problem with k-rend, it’s so coarse that the dirt/algae holds in it and doesn’t come off easily.
      You could stick brick slips to it if you were sure it’s held on well but they’ll only be as stuck as the k-rend is. You’d have to have some sort of primer coat too. But always ask the manufacturer for advice on this sort of thing. Don’t think it will be cheap to do though. You could just do some details around the windows with brick slips if that’s the only place it gets dirty

    Hi there, what’s the blue band you are using to joint the brick courses? Would like to try something like that instead of 10mm wood… great job 👌

    • @SamDaviesBuilder
      @SamDaviesBuilder  Před 2 lety

      It’s 10mm rope! Worked quite well, I saw another builder use it so thought I’d give it a try. Just make sure you put some pencil lines in on the wall every few courses as you can loose your level/gauge a bit

      Mate I've been offered contract for 891sqm of brickslips labourer only
      I don't want to shoot myself in the foot
      What's average per sqm labour only not supplying materials?
      I really appreciate

    What mortar did you use to fill the joints? I’ve been doing myn today and even when I make it too runny it doesn’t come out.

    • @SamDaviesBuilder
      @SamDaviesBuilder  Před 2 lety +1

      I just used 4:1 sand and cement with plasticiser mixed in a mixer. You can buy mortar in a bag for brick slip pointing but I’ve not used it before. What mix are you using and are you using plasticiser?

      @@SamDaviesBuilder I used Bostik Cementone general purpose mortar but was no good. I’m not mate no, used to be a tiler back in the day so wall looks cracking. Just need to get right mortar so it flows through bag/pump

    • @SamDaviesBuilder
      @SamDaviesBuilder  Před 2 lety +1

      @@stephen7865 I’d try adding a small amount of plasticiser and mix it well. If you don’t have plasticiser you can use a drop of washing up liquid (not recommended but will serve a purpose). Let me know how you get on!

      @@stephen7865 Everbuild Opti-mix Super Concentrated Mortar Plasticiser, 1 Litre amzn.eu/d/1MfZONZ this stuff is good just watch you don’t put too much in as it’s concentrated. Hope something like that will do the trick for you with the mix. There’s ‘how to install brick slips’ on my page which shows me pointing them towards the end of it.
