watched a ton of her live videos tonight and it seems she only knows like 4 or 5 chords on the guitar, yet somehow her songs sound pretty distinct. that's impressive when talented song writers can pull that off. early punk comes to mind, and she def has that punk spirit.
It might not be that she "only knows like 4 or 5 chords" - it could be her vocal range falls comfortably within a certain key, so that is the key she plays in. To be fair, even in versions where she starts the song herself she's usually off-tempo from the recorded version. Just one of those things.
