  • Playing my own version of the new no.1 single of The Beatles, Now and Then, on my Pleyel grand piano (sorry it's a little bit out of tune..🫣)
Who would have thought that in 2023, The Beatles will reach no.1 again!!
I will upload soon "Your Mother Should Know", which I intended to do first, but given this sudden and unexpected no. 1 hit by The Beatles, I decided to have my take on this newest single.
It's definately not easy to "duplicate" (so to speak) the mood and instruments and melodies of the original studio recording....many strings sections, the haunting slide guitar solo, the long legato singing lines; it's hard to capture that with just an acoustic piano, in a very dry living room...but I tried, and stay as close to the original song as I could.

Oh my God, you play the piano a thousand times better than me, thank you for delighting my ears with this beauty, simply perfect. ❤

Thank you for your very kind comment! So sweet !
I remember it was not really easy for me to do justice to this song, with only one acoustic piano....the long legato lines of the orchestra and voice, and also of the beautiful guitar solo, are so so hard to copy on a piano, but still I tried to keep as close to the original mood of this song as I could. So I'm glad you like it so much!
I am reasonably satisfied with the result, because I know and hear always things that could be better, but one of the challenges with this very modest recordings of my (here at home, just with my iPad, so no flashy equipment at all), is to not "over-study" a song, and trying to keep the spontaneity in it, if you know what I mean. So that means in my case that many times I have to accept it how it is, be more or less happy with the result at hand :) because sometimes you can also play it só many times, to get the "right mistake-less" version, that in the end the result is life-less, if you know what I mean.
So, thanks again for your comment, I really appreciate your kind words!
All the best, greetings from The Netherlands! Simon 🎹

Thank you Arthur! I was planning "your Mother Should Know" (I love that song! It's so so cleverly made, and such a typical McCartney gem! ) but the fact this remarkable new song just came out, and the key is the same, and some harmonies even are exactly overlapping, I decided to do this one first. It was not easy: your mother should know lends itself way more easy for a piano solo rendition. I tried to stay as much close to the original as I could, and I also did not want to play it dead, so to speak, and make a (more or less) spontaneous take yesterday. I especially like the wonderful orchestral middle eight, with the slide guitar, but unfortunately haha that's the hardest part to copy, of course..
      Kind regards, Simon 🎹

      Thank you!
I was trying to keep close to the original, which was hard to do....it's rather tempting to make "Lisztian"-runs especially in the open spaces, but I tried to avoid that....and I didn't also want to study it completely overcooked, so to speak, if you know what I mean; to keep it more or less spontaneous, as far as I was able to do..
Thanks again for your kind comment!
