Enable FCC mode for Mavic Air / Spark using only Apple devices

  • Increase the range of your DJI Mavic Air / Spark by switching to FCC mode!
When you're not on FCC mode, your Mavic Air range sucks.
Tutorials available online all require that you use an android app to spoof your location. Unfortunately, iOS devices do not have an app that can do the same.
There's a workaround where you can use an android device to enable the mode on your drone, which will then carry over to when you use your iOS device. But what if you don't have an android device? It's a little more involved, but you can use your Mac, XCode, and your iOS device to accomplish the same thing.
    Get Xcode here developer.appl...
Get the Mavic Air here amzn.to/2JlxpR9
Didn't work? Parabolic range extender for your remote - amzn.to/2Jzt4NG

This video saved my drone's life. I live next to the ocean and I've been thinking about having the drone do a 100 ft (because that's what it's range was in any direction) nose dive right into it.
As of today, 11/07/2018, this still works. The process is not as intuitive as one might think as you have to register with xcode in some parts, but eventually you get there. I got hung up in three places (1) Selecting the model of my phone (iPhone 8) instead of my actual phone (2) Not having an account with xcode (3) not having the latest updated version of iOSX. Once these three things were in place, no problem.
I understand the concerns of not having the correct GPS for return-to-home functions. I had a bit of trouble actually getting my phone to put itself back to my location. Despite uninstalling the app and restarting the maps app, my location was still in the US. It wasn't until I turned my phone on and turned it back off again that I was able to have my correct location on my phone.
I was able to go 1000 feet tonight, easy. They may not seem like a lot, but I've been restricted to about 100 feet for weeks. Thank you very much for your help.

I can confirm it still works with the latest software/firmware. If it doesn't work for you try to delete and install DJI GO 4 again after spoofing because sometimes it keeps the last known location in its cache.

For the little tricky part about the Keychain problem in Xcode. You just have to enter your password for the Mac/Keychain and press "Always Allow" That will prevent all the popups from the Keychain and the Code 1 error.
The prompt shows up as described in the DJI GO 4 app perfectly, and i can see its clearly works in FCC mode now due to 11 channels.
    Cheers Sam! THANK YOU.

  • @SamThingsHD

When you’re done spoofing the location setting to FCC, you can stop the location spoofing on your device in Xcode and delete the app from your device. Just hook your device up to Xcode again, click on the location icon then click “Don’t simulate location” in case you run into problems with your other location based apps (like google maps, waze, etc).
How far were you able to go after switching? 😊

I've tried everything multiple times, including xcode, using an Android phone with fake gps, etc. No matter what, the app still reverts to CE mode when I start it, even if I turn off location services on my iPhone AND airplane mode! @@gasparddupuydangeac888If xcode asks for access to your keychain, you have to enter your root pw up to five times. No idea why, but it works. Maybe you have to restart your Mac and start from the beginning.

xcode now has access to provisioning profile with entitlement to keychain access groups and has a signing certificate beginning with iphone developer. However this certificate does not come up on the keychain access website and after signing in by entering the keychain password (this time round enabled it using my icloud password), the error repeated itself. I would like to stress that on the top tab it says 'building sps4 (thats my project name)' and it says 'carrying out tasks' - the number of these tasks range from 6 to 40, before it says 'build sps4: Failed' - when I then check why it still says error code one. I'm doing this on MacMojave with project format set on Xcode 9.3 compatible but I'm still not getting anywhere. All information on other sites is about the error appearing on application to developping apps so not sure where to go. Cheers

However, I have since taken my drone to Laos and now 2.4 Ghz is the only frequency that shows up. I'm back home and I'm going to try and attempt to fix it by this method. The DJI Assistant method isn't an option for me because you need an android device to run it.
Also, when I say that 2.4 Ghz is the only frequency, I mean that when I click the WiFi icon at the top right, it only comes up with 2.4Ghz with no option to choose any channel or anything. Here goes nothing.

When I had my spark, the only advantage it gave was decreased latency between the remote and phone, so I think that’ll be a non issue (as it relates to the range improvement vs flying in CE mode without an OTG too at least). With the increased power in fcc mode, you likely can do away with antenna boosters unless you need even more range than this’ll give you.

Your MA is the one that reports its gps location for purposes of home lock so it won’t be a problem (assuming you let it lock before flying off 😂). But the spoof may continue in other apps on your iPhone unless you delete the app created with this method. It’s safe to delete once you made the fcc switch.

Easy enough to follow but IOS 11.2.6 (latest version) does not have a Device Management tab in Settings. So cannot enable the 'trust' the developer part, therefore it doesn't work. This was published a few weeks ago but I'm reading a lot of posts from people saying that the Device Management tab has dissapeared from iPhone X (and also my iPad Mini 4 - same problem.) So cannot complete this.

    • @aspisassin5015
      @aspisassin5015 Před 6 lety

Yes it does and yes it works. Once you've pressed the play button in xcode and the error message displays the "Device Management" tab in settings will appear. I suppose they have just hidden it until there is something there. However I noticed that changing the organisation name or organisation identifier can fix the problem if you don't manage to get through the play-button stage. I don't know why or how, but it fixed it for me.
Using iPhone X with latest iOS and latest DJI GO 4 version. Also latest Xcode.

I did this previously and it worked fine, I now have a new XS Max and have managed to install the stuff from Xcode but my problem is I DO NOT have the menu bar at the bottom to confirm that it has worked like I did on an earlier version of Xcode so don't have the location drop down to confirm it. Have you any ideas how to confirm it's working properly another way?
    Thanks again,

Ok so since I'm in the states and FCC is already set does that mean I should get good range in any country I go?

Yup! Just don’t change your WiFi settings when the prompt pops up when you’re in another country 😊

Nothing specific in the exclusions verbiage, but some phrasing could be interpreted that way. So it’s a risk. Read up here: www.dji.com/mobile/service/djicare-refresh/info

So do I understand it correctly that after you switch it return to home won’t work? Because while flying you will fool your drone that you’re in USA? Or every time flying you will have to cancel the settings warning

RTH works fine 😊 also a good idea to erase the spoof app that was created and reboot your device so it doesn’t spoof for other location apps (like maps and such)

I found if you tried to do this while the Drone had a GPS signal it didn't work as the drone gps clashes with the phones.
When I then did this inside the house with no GPS signal it worked straight away

Works great with my iPhone X, iOS 12, and DJI GO 4. I noticed that if I use Litchi App for Waypoints flight my spoof location would reset back to my original location. Any idea on how to go around this?

    • @SamThingsHD
      @SamThingsHD  Před 6 lety

Just delete the app you loaded onto your device and it should no longer continue to spoof. May need a restart.

My problem really is if I use the Litchi App using waypoints mission flight I will be taken out of the FCC mode which I don't want to happen. Maybe there's a work around this that I can maintain the fcc mode while using Litchi App. Thanks for your time.

If all you need is to select 5ghz, you can just manually select 5hz (the 3-digit channels are 5ghz). This FCC hack won't work for the MP.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I did not realize that it would not work on the original Mavic (do not have one) as I did it on my Spark. Plus I had seen many people talking about it; but now I see it might be limited to the Spark and AIR. Too bad as the range on the Spark is "more than enough" when in FCC. But when in CE I got a lot of disconnects and loss of signal for the video.

CE in Europe even though on Ocusync 2.0, isn’t anything like as strong as advertised it’s 1.5Km maximum in low WiFi areas, and 900m if you get any interference? Can you help please. • @SamThingsHD

Auto typically chooses the channels with the least amount of interference. I wouldn’t recommend manually setting the channel and keeping it on that one channel, because your flying environment is never the same.

The drone selects the best frequency (2.4 or 5ghz) depending on what’s best (least interference), even in EU.
