    Baktria is one the first hellenic faction I played in Rome 2, cool colour scheme and interesting starting area all the way in Afghanistan. This One, Egypt, Sparta, and Seleucids are my favorite of the Hellenics.
    Baktria gave me trouble in normal Rome 2 as Rome I didn't even know they existed till I found them and was instantly interested in them, knew Alexander got to India and went through Afghanistan but didn't know the Greeks actually settled in Afghanistan. They get to fight some cool factions early on too. Plus it's pretty fun starting in the East since I don't like playing most of the Eastern factions.

      @@Immersaholic The first thing that drew me was the history. I'll admit I'd never heard of a Baktria before. I did some digging and I was very pleasantly surprised to learn about the many traces it left behind, such as Greco-Buddhism.
      Then I took a look at rhe units and I was sold.

    I fell in love with Baktria when I played EB, but the difficulty level (at least for me) was just too much. So since then I've avoided it. But after seeing this video I started a campaign with Baktria and am having a great time! Many thanks for the video!

    • @sirtim100
      @sirtim100 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Immersaholic The campaign map in EBI didn't end where it ends in RTWII, it went on into the Indus Valley, with very tough Indian factions. Then you had the Saka Rauka howling down from the north, and then you had what was called "the Grey Death", stack after stack of vengeful Seleukids coming straight at you. Baktria was not an easy faction to play, which annoyed me because I really like the region and the history there. So I was really glad to find your video and see that Baktria can be a going concern. Just one thing: you need farms. If you over emphasize trade and industry in the first few moves, food gets to be a major issue while you wait for the satrap rebellion (and after).

      @@sirtim100 Thats awesome I didn't know about the map for it. It sounds like it'd be a rough campaign. Gday mate, I don’t know when I will but I definitely will at some point. I have a lot of factions to do.

  • @tagtip
    @tagtip Před 3 lety

    Thanks for another informative and entertaining overview. To continue a (spottily-executed) tradition, the magnitudes of the faction traits are: +5% income from industry and commerce, -25 diplomatic relations with anyone of Nomadic culture, +4 Hellenic culture in owned territory.
    If I can make one suggestion, I know you said in some earlier videos that incorporating reform tier into the unit overviews is essentially too complicated, but with the new unit database on the DeI website, perhaps you could revisit this idea, as it impacts the usefulness of some of these units greatly. For example, you say that the Mauryan longbows are a great counter to horse archers, and that is true, but the fact that you have to wait until Thorax reforms to get them means you will almost certainly have many, many battles against horse-archer heavy factions before this comes into play at all (and, on normal difficulty, may well have eliminated them by the time you finally get them!)
    (Similarly with the Cretans -- if you're someone located near Crete, you basically get them from the start of the game. Not Bactria! Gotta wait for that Thorax reform...)

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the extra info tagtip!
      Now that the database is available I was debating how I can incorporate them into these videos. The problem is these rosters for factions like Baktria are so massive its hard not to add extra info without these vids becoming so long (even for this overview I only barely talked about a few of the lesser units and it was still over a hour long).
      Right now I'm debating on just doing an entirely seperate series where we focus just on reforms and what each reform means for the faction of that video. It'll probably be a solid 20 minute video especially for the larger factions. What do you think of that?

      @@Immersaholic yes. And I can agree with like 90% of your analyze. But at least I did struggle and found the campaign quite challenging. But I am a very average player at best.
      At the start, I already got 2 problems: food and public order. I have nice trade goods but almost no trade partners and due to missing resources some buildings are not available.
      Then one neighbor declares war on me rather early and once I solved this problem Mayrian Empire had already captured the South.
      In my campaign it took me until round 80 to be able to capture most of the East and knock them out.
      At that point I had to face a strong Seleucid Empire and Armenia.
      Both got very strong cavalry and the Seleucids even amoured elephants and better pikes. I am not sure if I will be able to kick them out and how long it will take me.

    After watching this, I'm very pleased that in my Maurayn campaign, I defeated Baktria fairly quickly before it had time to finish me off. But I paid the price :D I had to ally myself with the Parthians and now they block my entire expansion on east and north. Does great Immersaholic community have any ideas how to counter almost all cavalry (and most archer) Parthian armies with Maurayn units? :D I tried to use old advice "dont fight Parthia on open field" but that mechanic "enemy sally out from the city to fight you" drives me crazy :P

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  Před 3 lety +2

      Sounds like you have a awesome campaign!
      One of my tips would be to try and force sieges but your right the ai will often sally out if its a small town (although for the larger capitals of regions they should stay inside).
      Umm but anyway Baktria should have Scythian horse archers in their core region as AOR units so if you have access to them try to use them. In addition, some low tier siege equipment could help pretty massively. Scorpions in particular can decimate cavalry quickly. Ballista are okay but pretty inaccurate.
      Also don't be afraid to use low cheap units to soak up the horse archer fire away from your core units so they ended up having to charge into your spears, which the ai will do eventually.
      I hope this helped!

      @Immersaholic  Před 2 lety

      As Baktria you'd probably have a few different armies. One Greek-style where you have lots of pikemen and cav combined. Another more Indian style army where you use the AoR units to give you a fast moving frontline of swordsmen/axemen combined with their super long range archers.
      And you can do a all cav army if you like, just use the Sogdian horse archers and others you get access to early on in the North.

      @@hereforthecommentsection_11 Oh nice! Just watch out for that cultural issue they get with the Egyptian culture coming up against your Hellenic one.
      Yeah archers in DeI actually really aren't too great except for like in sieges. I prefer archers because I just like them but you'll find it hard to get good kills with them.

      I love it and HIGHLY recommend it! I just didn't use it in my current Parthian campaign because I wanted to try a vanilla- DEI experience. I usually heavily mod my playthroughs. Our next major campaign will use it and many other mods.

      @Immersaholic  Před 2 lety

      Hahah that's understandable :)
      DeI lowers the stats of all units across the board in order to extend combat and allow for more immersive battles and tactics to occur.
      You'll get the hang of it mate, good luck in DeI!

    Though I love the mod, I am somewhat salty over the handout of the Indian roster (which I think need a bit of an overhaul) units to them.

    • @Immersaholic
      @Immersaholic  Před 3 lety +1

      Really why is that? To be honest I'm just grateful we have Indian representation at all in DEI but I have heard of a couple other people who weren't happy with the roster. But I'm not familiar with what Indian units historically were at the time period so I'm pretty easy to please on the topic.

      @@Immersaholic I too am very grateful that they were able to do it better than CA but what I am saying is that the roster is truly a bit lacking when compared to actual historical armies. Despite that other factions have access to some of the strongest units from their roster makes the Mauryan a bit of a handicapped faction. Btw Great videos. You dont know how much i had struggled before stumbling on these.
