Another sweet couple working together beautifully. You two are a great example of how married life SHOULD be for those who struggle, a mission you probably never even intended! God bless you❣️
As someone who has used local Slaughter houses here in East Tennessee, that Slaughter house was the quietest, calmest one I have ever seen and that is Awesome! Those animals were calm and showing no signs of stress, anxiety or trauma! They should be commended for that too! It is a hard thing to do whenever we have to put them down for our consumption and SURVIVAL and it gives Us peace of mind knowing they don't die being terrified.
Great video!!
I appreciate that you take such good care of the piggies. “Just one bad day” is helping me to rethink that maybe I could eventually do this. I do love my bacon!!
I live in the city so have never raised my own meat. I admit I got a little teary eyed as the girls waddled down the isle. This is the way I am learning so that maybe one day we can raise our own. Be Blessed
Well that went Soooooo much better than last year, and it is our responsibility to make our animals every day a good day so they only have that moment of not good. We take care of them so they can take care of us. Great job you guys.
So nice to see a butcher armed with knowledge, instead of an electric cattle prod. Great job. :)
I'm not a vegetarian but it breaks my heart those little piggies are leaving you. They're just so cute and smart.
By far, the most sweet and gentle pigs we've ever raised. Idaho Pasture Pigs were a WIN in our book!
I don't know if i could do it😔😄 i would tell my husband goo, goo, you go i can't. haha he would probably bring back another animal to cure my sadness 🤦♀️
I couldn’t do it 😦
I love the teamwork under every circumstance. The fact that you both show so much care and respect for your animals is very gratifying. 💖
100 percent agree. We have 6 kunekune pigs. We get the same comments. We want to love on them and give them the best life.
I got that when I took my steer to the butchers. He was a bottle baby and very much like a dog. People just didn't get why I called him Jack Jack. While I have them I give them the best life I can and then they taste so delicious because you know you did your best for them. It is bitter sweet. We truly enjoy the fruits of our labor. Our pigs just make them selves at home in the stock trailer because I over night them in it to fast them. Good job.
Just great compassion for your pigs. You treat them well and.. yes. ..They have a purpose. You raise them for your family. Kudos to you for wanting the best healthy food. They had a great life and were treated humanely with love and scratches and rubs. Love ALL YOUR CONTENT.
We don’t want to get out, we’re cozy in here!
Good philosophy and they definitely had a great life.
We had a pig when my son was about 13. He named it pork chop.😳😳 He said to keep things in perspective. But he still wouldn’t eat him. I like your philosophy of making their lives the best til their last day. 🐖🥓🧡
Bravo on taking them to jerome. Did my Christmas shopping there a couple years ago. Lol. You will not be disappointed.
My husband is sitting here laughing. He said your eyes are so expressive so excited like a little doll...
Ask my daughter, her favorite saying is "mom your eyes" usually when I was being serious with her.. can't ever mask what I'm feeling, my eyes are a dead giveaway
What a day to be hauling the piggies to market. That’s a great philosophy for the farm stock it’s essential to have good stock husbandry (or wifeandry, which I know isn’t a word) when you practice field to fork. Love Todd’s camo onesie, it looks very toasty. Those piggies are good and fat, so lots of lovely food coming your way.
Thank goodness we never had CZcams for our first years trying to load our pigs for butcher. It was pretty funny. 😂
Agreed, all animals that you're willing to eat should be cared for as well as possible. Knowing what your animals consume is more important than people realize. They had a better life than most!
Good for you for getting those pigs for the purpose of feeding your family, but at the same time raising them with love. That is much more humane, in my opinion, than going store bought! I wish I was in the position to do that with my family. Someday! For now, I do my best to buy local, and know as best as I can how and who is raising the meat we eat.
Good for you! They have a purpose.
I love pigs 🐖 🥰
The loading went great!!! Raising pigs is all about love, respect and understanding. Great job guys!
FYI, I found Ball Silver lids and lids w/rings combo on Amazon. Ordered last week, received today
Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🙏🥰👍👌🙏🦅🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸🙏
You are kind owners.
My husband and I had a smallish dairy farm for about 30 years. I am pretty sure loading cattle or getting them in the barn never ended with a hug,a kiss and a good job. But I would not change a minute. I worked pm's at a hospital and when I got home I would check the barn ...always love that smell of fresh straw and the fragrances of the feed and warm cows on a cold winter night.
That went very well. Some people just don't understand. The main thing is loving them and treating them good and Y'all do that. Can't wait to see what they bring in.
I would have loved to seen inside the store lol.
Good job!
They were scared to walk out the ramp being able to see the ground. I think next time bringing the mat may have helped and maybe a sweet potato to entice them out. Great video. 💖💖💖
They could smell/see that it wasn't 'home'. Possibly hear sounds of distress. Who knows. :-(
Their Tri-Tips are the best. We have them on Thanksgiving rather than turkey :)
Totally agree. The object of buying is food but while here love and enjoy and give them the best you can. Love on them pigs
Aww piggies cuties.
It’s Tuesday and we’re getting flurries. It we’ll be icy out tomorrow morning for sure in north western Oklahoma. It’s 26 F and feels like 20 F.
We’ve had 2 big snow storms end of 2020 .
i bet those lil piggies gonna taste good this winter. Blessings from God, meat is good.
We sell 24 grass fed steers a year and every trip to the butcher is kind of sad for me. I take the best care of them for 2 1/2 years so I totally get it. I even had my husband winterize the trailer so they wouldn’t be cold on their final trip to the butcher!
Good Job Guys- not only loading etc but raising & loving those pigs as you do. It will be excellent Pork as they were treated with respect for their entire life- by the way save some bacon for me PLEASE & maybe a little roast would be nice too. Cheers Denise - Australia- PS Rachel my Pea & ham soup siphoned a couple of jars so researching .
Hello. Rachel, and Todd. I am so sorry you had to take your Lovable pigs to market. I hope you two are safe at home after the market. God Bless the two of you. As you know, my neck of the city is going to snow again. We had a snow storm in December, and now we are going to have another snow storm in January, today is Monday. The snow storm is coming on tuesday morning. I will be going to work in the snow. God Bless you again. Maria.😁😁😁😁😁😁💖💖💖💖💖💖🐗🐗🐗🐖🐖🐖🐖🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷🐷
You guys be safe. Hey Rachel will you show what the leaf lard fat looks like when you get it back. I've never seen it before and I'd really like to see the difference❣ Thanks for sharing everything. Stay well!
We are having same weather in Bend Oregon
Brrrrrr. I miss the snow ❄️.
I can only imagine how hard this is ! This is the part that would be tuff but you not Doing it is definitely helpful I am sure . Glad they had a happy life .
I forgot I ordered some oofos ! Clogs and flip flops ,the clogs are fuggly but omy comfortable .
My hubby and I were discussing if we could do what.you’ll did. We talked about how difficult that would be because you do pour your life into them and for a “purpose”. But know how I start to live my animals, it would be so difficult for me to enjoy that meat. But maybe if it were my only way to eat, then would I feel differently. Those guys knew that coming out of the trailer wasn’t going to be good. 😞 🐖
We are having snow where I live in California also. Kind of crazy for this time of year. Be so blessed.
How about roasting them as a whole. We called LECHONG BABOY.... with different herbs inside and condiments. Crispy skin and moisted meat.
I am sure you didn't forget....but hopefully you had them get you your lard and separate the leaf lard for you :)
Your pigs were hesitant but got off better than ours did :( ours was very sad! Our pigs would NOT get off the trailer...it was traumatic for them...I was so disappointed! I know they are not supposed to get all worked up and they certainly did...before I knew it the butcher shop guys were using electric sticks on them....I was so upset with them. I wish I had the confidence to butch them ourselves next time.
You do a wonderful job of caring for them 😁.
Great customer service!!!!!
It is so hard to part with every animal whether you raise them for food or not. They do have a purpose and I’m sure they won’t even feel anything when the time comes as it happens pretty fast. We are thinking to try Idaho pasture pigs this year. They are not as huge and intimidating as other breeds. They will be our first ever so I’m glad about the recomendation on them.
Maybe wait till we get the meat back, these seemed to raised out more like kune kunes in my opinion. Anxiously awaiting.
Thank you piggies
One of these days I need to make that trip to Jerome meat market. I believe it's an hour or so from here. 🙂 Bacon❤
Don't envy that snow in s tx we hit 73 today lol
Used to raise beef cattle. Never butchered or ate any mainly just couldn’t eat that much beef. But I knew what they were raised for though.
Hi guys fun never stops on a homestead lol try to stay warm have a great day
I would love to shop in that store. The Pratts took us on a tour once when they were picking up meat. The last time my husband took some cows to the sale they would not get out of the trailer. The guys had to get in and push them out. I told my husband.... Yeah they looked around and thought this is not home and did not want to get out.
It may be hard but they are made for us to eat!
The last three times we’ve had animals processed we’ve taken them to Jerome’s. We’ve done both cow and pig and we’re really happy with the quality!
Am staying south of snow ❄ till Saturday then heading to Illinois...you guys are awesome stay safe as always thanks for sharing
That’s smart with the hoop house on the trailer. I was wondering how you transport full grown pigs
I know their purpose, I know you love them. They were just so stinkin' cute. We get beef from my brother in law. My husband still says he has to go feed his babies. We have a full freezer of beef and no garden yet. Hopefully coming soon. God Bless
I was born , raised and still live in a city. Growing up, I was taught the purpose of farm animals, but you know-Old MacDonald's pigs never went to market. They just lived happily ever after, 'oinking' . I haven't eat pork in a long time (for health reasons), but I do love a good pork chop or bacon with my eggs. I still feel sorry for these girls...
This Michigan winter has been sooo lame. Where is all of the snow!? Lol
I’m just cold looking at your video. It’s 75 here in Texas.
They had a fantastic life and one unsure moment. Not even bad because before they know anything is going on, it's over. We'll done. I'm terrible at choosing cuts but they're all great . 💙
I totally agree with your philosophy concerning being a meat eater. Yet I still need time to actually do a slaughter. I will get there or give up meat.🌸
Those pigs are so round, they look like sausages! I don’t think there will be much waste on those porky bodies. They look like they are bred the right way to be nothing but meat. They’re cute, though, and I know they will be so tasty because of your amazing care for them.. I’d like to get IPPs someday. I live in Idaho and I couldn’t find any around here. Funny!
We had heavy snow last night here in Cambridge, UK. Loving hearing the crunch of the cars driving past as it’s not a given we will have snow every winter.
I wish I could own pigs! Hopefully in a few years!
Funny; it's cold and snowing in AB, Canada today too. This wouldn't be a big deal normally; but, this year has been unseasonably warm. While we normally would have experienced temps in the -20's, -30's, and occasionally -40's (that's in Celsius), this year we've been above zero the majority of the winter. It's truly been like a really nice fall here. So here we are on January 25th and we're finally getting our first real taste of winter (-24 today with the wind chill). Fortunately, the Rocky Mountains themselves have maintained close to normal snowfalls, so skiing is good. We'll have to wait and see how this limited snowfall will affect next year's wheat/canola harvests; but for now, loving this wonderful weather.
You can taste it in the meat when a pig or animal lived well and was well loved or wild until death.
This little piggy (s) went to market! I live at our daughters feed store and they raise pigs for meat. Her husband processes them on site. And thanks them
I have considered getting IPPs. But gosh they are just so cute I just don't know if I could go through with it. Especially when we eventually plan to butcher at home. It's easier when someone else has to do the rough parts. I'm very glad they lived a good with you. I believe that's how we are supposed to be towards the animals, even if their purpose is to feed the family.
You're both amazing! You treat your animals with love, and that is the way they should be treated. Freezer camp is just days away. Love knowing an animal is taking care of in the right way, and the animal provides you with great food. Stay warm!
My husband and I have had the same philosophy with all our pigs, cows, chickens and turkeys we raised for meat. Wonderful lives until that very last moment. Enjoy the snow!!
Please explain about "Canadian Bacon" if you have time, ok? Thank you!!!
Pigs mustn’t be stressed before slaughter or the meat will be tough. My mother used to get a pig from the farm , the farmer massaged the animal first. Nice.
Justin Rhodes uses a Pig Board. Not sure if that's a real thing or he just made it. But, you can try that the next time.
I'm the same philosophy everyday is a good day except for the last day. The only concern I ever have is how do they do the deed? You always hear so many horror stories. I just want to make sure they're passing is the easiest it can go.
Love your channel!! I live in Michigan as well! Was hoping you could tell us how much you paid per pig and all the great info you provided years ago with the Red Wattle Pigs?
So excited for you guys!! I want to get some goats and pigs so bad!! Lol. We just have chickens right now
Those pigs read about this place and know what it is. Thank you but I will stay in the trailer.
I do know if you ever said how much they weighed before processing, I estimate them at about 300 pounds. I had livestock in high school. As much as I cared about them, I was glad when I could move on to another animal!
Rachel!!! I have to tell you CZcams kicked me off your subscriber list. I have been subscribed since sometime in 2019, and around May I started not getting regular videos and then I would look you up and get to watch. It wasn't until yesterday that A video poped up and I thought why didn't I get this one?? and realized I was no longer subscribed. I don't know if this has happened to any other of your subscribers? But I QUICKLY resubscribed. wonder if you can look back in your history and see if you had a sudden unsubscribe moment ?
Love the Piggies and you love and care for them! Now I need to go back and get caught up!!
I eat a primarily vegan diet for health reasons and because of the horrors of factory farming, You two have the right idea. They were treated so well and didn't live in poor conditions. It is so unfortunate that all animals that are raised for meat can't be done so in this fashion.
My husband was raised on a farm. The attachment to animals is the reason he gives why he wouldn't farm with me. I know you're correct and I admire you.
Your husband is an honorable man
Jerome's Country Market, We sell taste one bit at a time...
Awww
Love the only one bad day.
I understand the desire/need to raise for food, pigs really are smart animals and they most probably knew they were going for slaughter.
I know it was hard for you Rachel, I raised cows when younger and auction day was sad, or process day was sad. I loved them, kissed them, groomed them , knowing full well that their purpose was to fill the freezers of our family. Your pig babies sure were cute and they will taste great because you loved them. 🐷❤
I bet they'll be yummy
They look so huge lol - especially their faces! Let us know their hanging weights!
The circle of life..
I could never raise pigs, I just think they’re too cute. I would probably start out with the intention of raising them for food but then I’d get too attached and keep them as pets forever 😂
Same for me
Lots of people do it like this.
The snow has been lame here in Western NY. Mid January in Buffalo and I can see grass, not cool!
I really like that you showed how you take to pigs in. I am one that my animal's are my family but it's getting to the point in our country where I need to put some big girl pants on and get some hens and maybe a pig or 2. How much did the pigs weigh? I dont know if you said. I'm just curious how much meat you get off of one pig.
Can I ask the brand name of the boots your wearing? A bit off subject but my boots bit the dust this summer. Love your channel!
Did you read my comment?
Yes, we read it. But didn't have time to reply. Here's Rachels boots: amzn.to/3cgv8bg Going on year #4 and they've held up well.
We don't have any decent butcher shops our way too get custom orders enjoy....
That's the way it is done!
How long will 2 pigs feed you. I would think a pig a year depending on the size of family you’re feeding.
I’m curious about how you choose the processing center, and the cuts of meat you get back. It never dawned on me about bratwurst and some of the other things you were saying.
My thing is getting out of my head about eating something I lovingly raised. I mean I eat meat and I know where it comes from... but it’s never been one of my animals. I’m sure you’ll be sharing lots of recipes with us!
Two pigs normally last me and Rachel about 2 years. So we raise 2, every other year. We also give away a lot of it, to family.
The first we raised, we experimented a lot with different cuts and styles. We learned what we liked and didn't so much, and adjusted this time around to account for that.
What kind of pigs are those that you have there?
Idaho pasture pigs
