  • Troubleshooting advice for the Onan commercial mobil power CMSD 7500 generator. This is a 7.5 kVA Onan generator powered by a Kabota three cylinder diesel engine. This generator is being used as a back-up for a deep water well. Used to supply stock water during a power outage.

build a roof over it to keep sun and precip off of it..the plastics and hoses will last much longer..the red breaker isnt designed for outdoor exposure. The black connector is a Amp CPC connector, not designed for outdoor use either. Your Bendix mil connector has rubber boots available to seal it off from water ingression. Best of luck.

Great information, I have the same generator that has been down for 4 months now and this gave me a great hint where to start the problem solving. My fuel shut off solenoid is not getting any power so im going to work on it now with more of a clue what to do.
    Thanks Steve!

I don’t have your unit but really enjoyed your helpful comments….notice water stains inside your black wire box…those connectors could have been anchored better and rtv sealed….our grundfos pumps will run on solar DC or AC….that might help as another layer of redundacy

Raymond, Thanks for the suggestions. Although these units were designed to be used in the weather. They are not extremely weather resistant, and as they get older, they tend to develop leaks. I ended up building a frame and metal roof over the top of mine.
Right now it’s still working well!

      I should mention
My solar pumps are now in the 2.3-2.5 $ range now and make sure you buy a 5 yr warantee

It was hard to tell. Can the male pins be split opened a little?
But yea, your way of fixing it is “top notch!”

Larry, My pins were solid metal. I have seen those split pins you mention. IF you have that type, they can be pushed apart to make better contact, You could also look at the socket, sometimes you can pinch the female sockets into a slightly smaller diameter but you risk damaging it. Either way these are only temporary fixes. The normal vibration will cause the poorly designed OEM connectors to arc and fail.
