  • Following along with ‪@GinaBSilkworks‬ wonderful book and CZcams channel, this video shows my first attempts, using wooden beads as molds, satin-wrapping and spiral-wrapping them to create beautiful buttons - if I can do it, anyone can! :)

Thank you Kim, it's always fun learning a new craft and very satisfying in the end - I think I will have struggles with some of the techniques as I work through the book, but I'll enjoy the process. Think I might make a little fabric book to put them in :)

Thank you Gaby! 😊 I can see me getting addicted to button-making, and if it's a bit of a battle to learn then it will be all the more satisfying when I finally get the hang of it - hopefully! xo

You've made such lovely buttons! yes, wrapping from the bottom of a flat button and up and over does seem to be the easiest way for most people. It was nice to see you find that way worked for you too. Fabulous job, and thank you for the mention and link xx❤

Fantastic. Love the fact youve used the little tea light candle thingys. How many tea lights ive used in my life and felt guilty about throwing them away. Now two uses out of one tealight candle. Brilliant!!!! Cant wait to watch how you do other buttons with the hole in them. Love this!!! 💕

Thank you so much Melinda, I'm so happy we now have a reason to hoard the empty nightlights! I'm thinking if I made a few of those little buttons, they could be stitched together llike beads, into bracelets and necklaces. Also have another mini scrap project coming up very soon using one of the empty shells to make a handy slow-stitching accessory, so watch out for that :)

Ah Christine I did think about you while I was making this, I can imagine you enjoying making these too and might be fun to try making them with different textures of thread for your textile art pieces. I love the caddy you're making, must catch up with the latest, I'm thinking of tryign something similar to transform an ugly wooden box I have stashed away, so I'll see you there! :)

It's a wonderful book Judy. One of my friends on Discord reminded me that she also has a book called Twenty Buttons to Make or something like that, it's really good and a lot cheaper than this one if you want to just put a toe in the water without spending too much :)

You should Hildegard, it was immensely satisfying, really looking forward to trying all of the techniques in the book. I have some forms now to try out, but will also try making my own forms from card and other things I have in my craft room already - love the idea of making buttons the same way people did so many years ago, but with a modern twist, makes my heart smile :)

Thank you Annie for your video and company today. Well done you, for a first time wrapping you did great. I bet you managed better off camera. I have done a couple of Ginas kits years ago and I held it right under my nose😂 Does make it easier. Little tip use a small quilt clip to hold what you have already wrapped on the flat button ,you are then free to relax and change your hand position. It's a cheats make of her third hand that She has on her website. She once had a butterfly kit which was amazing but oh my goodness I don't know how many times it got unwrapped🙄. Looking forward to the next type you go for. Watch her video of making the gold tassels for the monarchs footmen. The waistcoat looks good (even partly done) I hope you wear it when you come down to East Sussex.

Thank you very much Carol - it's going to take a lot of practice, but I know I'm going to enjoy it and as you say it was a lot easier off camera, everything is awkward at arms length isn't it? Thank you for the tip, I'll try that next time and I'll definitely check out the tassels video, I think someone else has commented about that too and I love tassels! :)
