Now in her second term, and armed with a Democratic-led legislature, Whitmer is pushing gun control measures and protections for LGBTQ rights and labor unions, while enshrining reproductive rights in the state's constitution. She talks with correspondent Martha Teichner about her agenda, and how she turned Donald Trump's label for her ("That woman from Michigan") into a badge of honor.

This misses a big point. There would be no Democratic legislature if the people of Michigan had not said no to gerrymandering and voted to take redistricting out of the hands of the legislature.
One of our proudest moments.
Which was led by the Democrats since the GOP was very happy with gerrymandering.
The people of my state voted something similar and then the Republican state senate reversed it... so disgusting.

In other words, it's about the Vince Lombardi principle: winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. There are so many reasons Gretchen Whitmer would be a stronger candidate. Put Roy Cooper on the bottom of the ticket, and we're safe for another 4 years.
Forget about who "deserves" it. Biden didn't run in 2016 because Obama and other party leaders felt Hillary "deserved" it...she had put in her time and faithful service to the party, it was her turn. If Biden had been the nominee, we wouldn't even be in this mess, he'd be finishing his second term and it would be politics as usual.

On June 30th, she called Biden’s campaign and told them she won’t go against him, and later called someone else and declared Michigan is impossible to win for Biden. She tried walking that back once the story was exposed. This is all according to ABC News.
No doubt she made mistakes, but she does have grit, and deserves respect from both sides of any aisle. Next, please do a story as to why the Yahoos were allowed to carry guns into the g.d. State Capitol.

I'm 100% behind my Governor Whitmer and am delighted with her leadership. I'm a 78 yo senior Democrat, who started out life in the home of the Republican Party elites. It's the women of this country who have the clarity of vision to and pragmatism to get the necessary jobs taken care of and keep on steppen'.

Because the Republicans, then in power in the legislature, torpedoed every attempt she made at proposals to fund the repairs. Fortunately that Republican majority is now HISTORY.
And they aren't going to get any better. I have worked in road building in Michigan for 17 years and she hasn't made a difference yet. That "Rebuilding Michigan" campaign is only funded by the purchase of bonds that have to be repaid starting in a few years, which takes a lot of funds away from the budget for road work in those years. Our road condition is only going to get worse. I have seen the data. That's what happens when we're dealing with decades of underfunding and the distinct honor of being last in the nation in per capita road funding until the Snyder administration gas tax and vehicle registration increases kicked in in 2015. Whitmer just added another band aid to the bullet hole.
She can parade around and say what she wants about how Rebuilding Michigan fixed the damn roads, but it won't change the fact that our roads will still be crap and continue to be crap unless something major is done. Maybe use some of that massive state government surplus that we have...
Decades of underfunding for a state that gets frequent freeze/thaw cycling which damages pavement severely is unacceptable.

I was very impressed with her when she was a state senator. I wanted her to run for governor as soon as her term limit was up, but she took time off for her family. I'm so happy she is my governor and would vote for her as president.

@@ds0904 it was spun to sound that way but the truth of the matter is we had to stop the discharging of patients from there long term care facilities because hospitals were already overwhelmed at the time and those for profit care facilities are paid to take care of sick folks. Most of those patients were sent to ER from those homes and like anybody else if you tested positive but stable you were sent HOME to isolate until you were no longer contagious.

@@kimberlyault9242 thank you Kimberly for the input that explains a lot. I’m disabled and it’s really hard for me to drive around on the potholes and messed up roads. I lived out of state for four years and it was an incredible difference. I could really tell that other states take much pride in their roads and infrastructure. Somehow we got lost in the shuffle.

I think it should be investigated if the state now and then is legislated with the Bible written as a story. The word immunity (Latin immunitas, freedom from obligations to the state) comes from a religious revelation from the middle ages, most likely from a pope to become lawless, and which has since been rewritten into sovereign, absolute, and qualified immunity (legally, cannot be prosecuted for the criminal act) to the governor, government, senator (origin, the Roman Empire), congress, cabinet, and Supreme Court for law decisions and actions. The political exploitation of the vital ecosystem has led to forest death, how it will affect people's economy, etc.
Furthermore, I think the Democratic Party can be a consciously misleading party name with all parties belonging to the Republican Party, as current political democracy and socialism can only be about going more toward the middle, eg. the Democratic Party for law decisions and actions, even with the misleading word professional politician.
I also think the people should consider voting for a real democratic party with an independent state formation to investigate if the governor, governments, senator (origin, the Roman Empire), congress, cabinet, and Supreme Court overall may be guilty of a violation of democratic rights with misleading elections, economic crimes, violation of human rights with class society for adults and children, and serious environmental crime (force majeure).

The other half of the story is that she's a million times worse than the 45th Pres. on Jan. 6, 2021, she took part in the insurrection at the state capitol in mid-December 2012 with shakedown artist Jesse Jackson and hundreds and hundreds of others on multiple occasions including in July 2014 and mid-March 2011. Well Texas actually had a governor like that at one time. But you all allowed Karl Rove to start a whisper campaign against Ann Richards and what you got was a bush or in W's case a shrub.

Such as children getting shot in school, women dying from lack of proper reproductive healthcare, people being able to afford healthcare in general, societies around the world struggling not to fall into fascism (including the U.S.), countless huge humanitarian disasters from war and/or mega storms, endangerment/extinction of one species after another directly from human flagrancy, to name a few.
