    The scope certainly has me interested. I think this is the type of game to appeal to older audiences. Since it takes so long in game for a generation to pass, and a new character take over, coupled with the variety of ways to play the game, I see it as the type of game an adult would pick up and play in little sittings after work. You just play it at your pace and have this small second life of sorts without much stress. I'm certainly going to pick it up for that reason.

    I love this game. I don’t mind how slow things seem to be because there’s a lot of stuff to do. I can run my shop all day or go into the woods and do a dungeon and that eats up most of my time.

    personally this feels like everything i wish stardew valley was, story progression, more things to do other than fight monsters and farm, The Fae, etc. While i will always love SDV, this game genuinely seems like it has a lot more to do. The slow progression and aging allows you to spend a day or so focusing on one thing, without missing someones last days.

    I got it when it released in early access and I've spent countless hours on it. I do agree that it can feel shallow, at least when I played it. But, its still adorable, fun and engaging. At least for the first 10 or more hours.

  • @Lexyvil
    @Lexyvil Před rokem +6

    I bought it a few years ago knowing it was early access. It did slowly improve over time until Release where even more changes came out. It was missing some things but seems to have more things to do now. The good news is that the devs intend on gradually adding more content even post release, according to what one of them said on their Discord channel. Adding more flavour to NPCs based on their personality would be a huge step forward to make the world feel more alive.

    So you possess your own descendants through dark magic? Or is it like The Phantom, where one lineage just decides to be the same guy through tradition, but you're a farmer instead of a pulp vigilante? The Pharmer...

    • @arcanumelite4853
      @arcanumelite4853 Před rokem +13

      the first one... you possess your kin thru faery magic and are essentially immortal thru doing so... but you can trade away years of your life for powerful items to help you out (like having your crops water themselves... or having a clock instead of trying to figure out what time it is thru dandelions... or being able to teleport using outhouses by flushing yourself... yes im serious)
      the idea of the game is to grow your legacy and since you forcefully possess your descendants and inherit their stats as well as part of your old stats you want to have your kids raising the skills you want to inherit until you basically make the ultimate character... and essentially become a god (this is literally the story reason for growing your legacy)

    This did sound pretty interesting, especially that generations take a lot of ingame time to progress.
    Every time I tried to get into this kind of progression with other games it was more like...
    "Hey, that's you and now you died of old age. This is you now. And dead."

    • @arcanumelite4853
      @arcanumelite4853 Před rokem +1

      you can speed it up if you wish... you can trade years of your life away for permanent bonuses like being able to teleport by flushing yourself down outhouses in their dr.who parody the turdis... or being able to change the weather ect... these cost you years of your life as currency... but you dont pay right away... instead he takes these years at the end of the current year so even if you traded away all of your life... you would still be able to survive for the next year..
      the benefits you get from this are permanent and continue onto the next character (whether that be one of your kids or some random orphan if you dont have any) because you are essentially immortal thru bodysnatching your children thru faery magic

    Personally, I felt very overwhelmed by its possibilities and world size. It was so depressing and i felt like a fish out of water when I suddenly aged up and had no idea what to do with my life.😮‍💨 and to make descendants seemed stressful cause everyone was lowkey unappealing.

    I played off and on in early access. The more boons you get at the end of the year, the more life is taken away from your lifespan-- if you want the generations to progress quicker, you can do this. Also dying in combat takes years also, I believe.

    • @Elisenaps
      @Elisenaps Před rokem

      The thing is, you would have to be reckless on purpose in order to lose enough years. I died like, a dozen times in dungeons and was only set to lose like, 5 years from the minimum age you start the game at.
      None of the items being offered for years were any use to me, and so I would have had to purposefully throw away years for no reason rather than being incentivized to through the design.
      If they incentivized spending years very quickly it'd be more fast paced, but I felt like I wasn't being pushed that way.

    Always worth mentioning with this kind of thing that a game journalist who needs to complete the game on schedule to write a review so they can get on to the next 5 games they need to review that month won't necessarily have the same experience as someone who plays a game like this a little bit at a time on the train to work over the course of two years.

      As in so many games with a touch of farming? Because not that many actually do the generations thing. In fact, when Kynseed was first being made you could count them on your fingers. I've seen some rogue lites take on the generation premise, but not too many life sims still.
