  • I made another natural soap that will be ready for me to use after three months in my container garden. Hopefully, the rainy season will be over by then.
    I hope you will enjoy today's video.

    SOAP MAKING NOTES:
    - I always work in grams and Celcius.
    - I may not always show it, but I scrape every bit of soap from my containers to not waste anything.

    Being from a farm, with a husband that was *very* handy and well known to be generous with his time, he'd get a LOT of calls for "odd jobs" and help from the older farmers up and down the roads...needed soap that would clean just about everything just as quickly as he could get dirty! Had one farmer in particular, always called last minute, THE worst possible messes(usually his stable cleaner had broken..in the midst of mucking out his *pig barn*, so hubby would be up to his elbow fishing through pig poo trying to find this elusive metal paddle so the cleaner could be restarted and the rest of the manure sent on its way to the pile...and hubby would arrive back home strip off his coveralls, give a cursory wash to himself in the back porch sink..expect to come into the kitchen and sit down to his breakfast...(for those uneducated in the intricasies of manures...PIG is THE most ammonia laden, thus pungently eye watering of any farm animal's to be found! And that odour sinks in with claws and TEETH! Poor hubby would come strolling in, thinking he"scrubbed" sufficiently to have removed every possible lingering odour that may have possibly attached itself within several yards of him, only to be met with turned up, wrinkled noses as soon as he got within sniffing range; a firm "Go, Scrub!" And a slap of a bar of "Working Man's Soap" into his hand, he was spun around to redo his scrubbing again, only now, he'd been turned away from the actual breakfast awaiting him(extra motivation😘🙃). My "working man's soap" was made with actual coffee, pine tar, and coffee grounds! And it WORKED!!! Took me 3 years of experimentation to tweak the formula "just so" but once I got it, it quickly became known in the area, it would work like a man and still leave his callouses intact enough to protect him from whatever had created them in the first place, but soften his hands enough *overall* that he could take his lady out dancing and not wreck even her most délicate silken lace fancies... so thst soap was a hit with both genders!😁🤩 enough that when i had to trlocste several hours drive away, to stay with my youngest daughter for cancer treatments he would drive down to visit and take back as much soap as I could make between visits!
    I finally asked him why/how he was going through so much soap so fast,(thinking his mother/father/brother had developed an awfully deep/sudden love affair with something *I'd* produced(unlikely as we couldn't stand each other and they had to know *he* wasn't making nor buying those bars in the time he was gone) turns out, he'd started a pretty lucrative little side business...
    he was SELLING it!(would have been risky enough if he'd been GIVING IT AWAY... He'd just gone on a couple of my bookmarked soapmaking sites, seen what They were selling their bars for and figured those seemed "nice" so asked those prices(factored in shipping too, since he "was" 😬😲delivering to a common meeting ground!🙃😉!!!)!🙄😵
    Somehow, enough other farmers were willing to fork over for just enough initial bars and the reputation grew and spread(word of mouth..) that it got to a point he was selling *dozens*, faster than I could make them (STILL do hot process on those, find it more reliable since its all I know with that recipe..why even try to change over now?Bryan was killed on a farm machinery acciedent 3 years ago and I'm no longer in the area, for their safety, I've had to break allc ontacts with his fsmily, although they requested my contact details for the diehards wanting more Soap. I gave my email address, i'll eat the shipping charges, given the prices they're used to paying- they're already paying them anyways! Nobody needs to know any different...😘 )
    Good thing I'd joined the (soap and candle makers guild), getting insurance coverage through them a few months before! Although HE never gave a thought🤪😜🙄🎼😲 to it;* I sure did!*
    and made very certain he understood a little more about *business of any sort* before he left that day!
    *Oh BOY did he get *BOTH* EARS FULL!!* Up until then he treated everything with wide-eyed innocence..neighbour had a heifer or 3, he wanted to outcross..."just bring them down throw them into the pasture with the bull...???"!!!
    "Honey?!?!have you lost your ever loving mind??!!you aren't going to be that flaming daft with the STALLION I Just spent 4years hunting down and purchasing, are you???" "Umm....no?" " good answer!"
    " why?"
    "You don't remember our discussion on contracts and liability?" "Um.....no?" " do we need to have it again? Have our daughter go over insurance and liability law again?" (She's a fully licenced law clerk, has worked as an insurance adjuster and clerk while going through her education..
    " um....no...it won't happen again.." " better answer! And?"
    " no more side deals"
    " best answer!"

    FAB soap! This seems an unusual recipe. Less than a pound. Is the coconut cream considered part of your liquid? Also, would you mind sharing where to get that one pound mold in that shape? Thank you so much...I enjoy all your videos. I've saved several in my playlist.

    • @theigorotsoaper
      @theigorotsoaper  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I subtracted the coconut cream from my liquid portion. This recipe is 90% coconut oil and 10% cocoa butter.
      The mold is a smaller version of the tall and skinny. I got it from a local store here in the Philippines (rawessentials.ph/collections/loaf-molds/products/tall-skinny-mold-small).
      Thank you for watching! :)

    • @lindawatigoh4833
      @lindawatigoh4833 Před 3 lety +1

      would 90% coconut oil make it too cleansing but drying? And will a plastic straw also do the trick?

    • @theigorotsoaper
      @theigorotsoaper  Před 3 lety +2

      @@lindawatigoh4833 yes if you have it to hand. I didn't so I improvised. As to the recipe, some people think it is drying because it is cleansing. I personally like all the properties of a 100% coconut oil soap as a cleanser so that is what I use. :)

    how do you calculate the amount of coconut cream?

    • @theigorotsoaper
      @theigorotsoaper  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I used 3% coconut cream relative to the amount of total oils. Coconut Oil + Cocoa Butter = 350g × 3% = 10.5g coconut cream.
      Hope that helps😉

    Hi there how long does this soap take to cure for use please and thank you

    • @theigorotsoaper
      @theigorotsoaper  Před 18 dny

      Hi. The soap can be used after six weeks, but I prefer to cure mine for a minimum of 12 weeks. The longer cure time really makes a difference in the hardness, lather, and overall quality of the soap. I hope you try making it.
