  • Out wild camping to try this new pyramid style, ultralight mountain tent.
    The tent used on this trip was the 1.5P DCF Pyramid made by a guy called 'Jumper Home Studio'. He was small ultralight tent and gear manufacturer based in China and not long after this film was made he sadly passed away in a mountain accident whilst out hiking.
    The location for this wild camping trip was near the summit of Beinn Ìme, the highest of the Arrochar Alps at (1011 metres). The weather changed from sunny intervals to high winds and rain during the evening, which turned out to be ideal conditions for testing the tents overall performance.

    I camped up near the top of Beinn Ime on the bank holiday weekend a few weeks ago. A lovely spot with amazing views and we had great weather! A bit of a trek coming up from Ardgarten and past the Cobbler on the way up though. Had a great evening but got pretty cold at night, need to invest in a warmer and much lighter sleeping bag and some other lighter kit but was just using old stuff I already have as just starting out (lightweight kit is pretty expensive). Despite only getting a few hours sleep I enjoyed it greatly and can't wait to get out in the hills again! Cheers for the quality content Ray, keep it coming!

    Great video, as per always! Yes the foot box getting wet is a big issue for extended trips. I had to change tent due to that exact issue on my thru hike of the Southern Upland Way in November last year. It rained solidly for 15 days, so could never dry my kit outside, and the down was just getting ruined. So that’s now a dealbreaker for me in a tent it must be said!

    • @RS.Outdoors
      @RS.Outdoors  Před 3 lety +2

      Still in two minds. There is benefits to both systems. Main thing is if it is large enough to stop your sleeping bag touching the flysheet and absorbing any condensation. Many people then use a thin bivvy bag to overcome that problem and in that case might as well have an inner tent. Downside to an inner like with my Duomid is having to set it up which takes a bit of time. Not clear cut mate. Atb

    • @RS.Outdoors
      @RS.Outdoors  Před 3 lety

      It performed well in the conditions and the points I made are not as bad as they seem, there where just small drops of water. Any single wall shelter like that you will most likely end up with a wet sleeping bag, just the nature of the setup. That's why you will see many use a thin bivvy bag to protect there sleeping bag. It was great in the high winds and with the rain bombing down later there was no other water ingress. As matter of fact I thought the condensation issue would be 10x times worse than it was. There are some tweaks that can be made and have spoken to the manufacturer, so watch this space. Atb
