    Les métros de Montréal sont effectivement construits sur le modèle de ceux de Paris car le métropolitain de Montréal a été construit en étroite collaboration entre Québec et France.Mais les voitures sont construites par Bombardier qui est une entreprise québécoise.

    I like Montreal's system better than Toronto's. TO's is boring, has limited lines, and the stations really suck. Stations generally look the same. I have read the comments here and have to disagree with some. Toronto's is nothing close to NY, and for those who don't think NY has a decorative feel, I disagree. The mosaics in NY stations, and some of the art work on the elevated stations are very nice and intricate. But hands down Moscow's stations are the BEST.

      You forgot the one fundamental advantage that puts the Montreal Metro over all others, big or small. Nowhere else in the world do the trains make a Dou-Dou-Doooooouuuu sound like the MR-73 trains do. And they do this not through a speaker, but through the natural sound of the choppers of the power converters that protect the electronic systems from an overcharge during the acceleration phase. At least until they replace them with sleak, efficient, comfortable, but boring MRM-10 trains... At least, they immortalised the song as the door closure signal, but it will never be the same. ;)

    I have been on the NYC, London Underground, Toronto, Montreal, Barcelona and Lille subway systems. NYC and London have massive systems that cover most of the entire cities, they are huge. Barcelona was 3rd biggest at 102km of track. Montreal 4th at 69km of track, Toronto 5th at 68km long and Lille smallest at 45km. NYC most reliable with 24/7 service, but also the most confusing, lack of maps and when you do find one, not to easy to follow, I found London system easier. London system is good except it closes so early, around Midnight usually. NYC best for getting around once you learn the system, but it has some of the dirtiest, ugliest, darkest subway stations. Montreal I can say wins the tittle for the nicest and cleanest stations, while Toronto is a bit more of a NY feel, but kept cleaner and probably they paint it fresh every now and then, unlike NY. Barcelona pretty good system, kept pretty clean, just watch your wallet, lots of pick pocketing going on there. Lille was ok, modern, safe, but small system. Toronto and Montreal both need subway expansion as despite being only half the size of other subways in American cities like San Francisco, Chicago, Washington only NYC actually carries more daily passengers then Toronto and Montreal. They are very well traveled busy systems but lack covering many areas in the cities, even more so Toronto a city that is growing fast in population but very slow at building new mass transit, a lot of it because of politics and funding delays.

    • @timosha21
      @timosha21  Před 9 lety +2

      chicago is similar size to toronto and yet the L train seems to cover more of the city than toronto. Washington DC is half the size of toronto and its metro covers huge portions of metropolitan area!

      New York looks complicated, but all you need to know are the trunk lines. It can be complicated though because they do use express/local, late night lines. But I think NY's subway the best. Montreal is better than Toronto. Unfortunately, Toronto's system is far behind.

      Toronto's week pass you must buy on a monday for it to be a week pass?? Like seriously? You don't just put 7 days automatically after you buy it - it goes on a day schedule? And yeah, NYC's subways needs work but it is 24/7 - I have taken it at 4am.... Toronto on sunday opens at 9am. I liked Montreal's it made me feel like I was in Europe

      Yeah. The TTC uses tokens still. They have something set up like the Metrocard now, but it is still pretty weak, and it's like a $6 or $10 fee. It's bogus. And you don't get the type of discount you get with the Metrocard. NYC's system does need some work; it is old, and neglected, but they are working on it. But somethings should be done quick about Canal St Station, 145th to Inwood. But it is systematic about the infrastructure across the US. Chicago's 'L' is so bad with needing repairs too. Montreal's stations are really nice. TTC's buses and streetcar network is pretty good.

    • @HesJustSteven
      @HesJustSteven Před 9 lety

      Well a lot of NYC subway stations are dirty because of several reasons
      1: having the most stations out of any system in the world with 468 is a lot of work to care for
      2: some stations are upwards over 130 years old like the oldest station in the system, Gates Avenue on the J and Z lines, luckily its looking good
      3: out subway is an engineering marvel, some stations and yards are built DIRECTLY underneath some of the biggest buildings in the city, thats a problem cuz when it comes time for repairs, you cant just do anything to the station or youll put the structure about at risk like Chambers Street on the J and Z lines is basically the basement of the Municipal Building
      4: the MTA has a lot of other things to worry about like the large fleet, the most amount of signals than any other subway, and the 800+ miles of track to maintain which are more of a priority
      So , it takes time but the MTA is tirelessly working on it 24/7

    The only metro/subway system in the developed world where littering is common place. It goes without saying here in Montreal that whatever waste you produce while riding the metro, you leave it behind. Just chuck it on the floor, leave it on the seat next to yours. The ubiquitous give-away rags (Metro, 24 hrs) line all seats and floors of all metro cars. Had a coffee? Drop the cup on the floor. Had a banana? Leave the peel on the seat. And no-one even blinks. Not just the bums- absolutely everybody! If you question this habit or address it, no matter how politely, the whole car will turn against you. It is implicitly understood in Montreal that metro cars, buses, bus shelters are treated as dumpsters (btw, Montreal has no real dumpsters). Montrealers are exceptionally filthy. So is the whole city. Alas.

    I like both subways in Montreal and Toronto. Rubber wheels? Hmmmm...??? I agree what about flat tires? Wouldn't that put a delay on the system especially during rush hours? The TTC is upgrading...but I disagree that Toronto system is complicated. Oh no....very easy to get around. It's just north, south east and west. Plus the north line interchange with the west to east line and as someone mention. The system connects you to buses and streetcars and the GO bus and trains such as Union station and more station that have already been planned. Yes, TTC subway is not 24hours and the reason for the is not enough lines available plus the trains needed to be serviced during the night so as to run effectively in the morning. However, there buses during the hours the subway closes..."BLUE NIGHT" bus service on selected routes with more commuter during the hours of 1:30am and 6am (9am on Sundays). Overall both is good for me. ;-)

    • @MrFantasnick
      @MrFantasnick Před 9 lety +2

      The rubber tires were chosen because Montréal has a lot of slopes and curves, making the system more «flexible» to access «difficult» areas. The best example would be line 4 (yellow) that litterally plunges under the old port and the clock tower, across the river to Sainte-Hélène island, and then dips again under the saint-Lawrence seaway to reach Longueuil on the South shore. This route would have been impossible with a conventional steel-tracked subway. As for flat tires...the tires are inflated by nitrogen rather than regular air, which keep them fairly cool despite braking and accelerating. I litterally can't remember an occurance of a tire bursting (although I guess it must have happened at least once)
