as a disclaimer i wanna say that this video was mostly just an excuse for me to ramble abt breakcore and charting breakcore i am aware there are other good genres aswell, but i just wanted to ramble a bit about breakcore
This is an interesting video but I don't agree with the main argument. Yes average songs with fixed tempos can be repetitive as you act as the metronome to the map, but a good map will vary pattern styles and switch up ideas that will make the map interesting, for example, a map features a lot of hand streams over and over with no variety will be boring, but that same song could be changed to be more hybrid Including parts of different patterns (Hand Streams Trills Jacks Speed Tech even LN) and it will make for an interesting and engaging. Even without this point rhythm games are also really good at giving raw difficulty so if a map challenges you to perform at an above-average rate to get a score that makes you feel achieved is more than enough to satisfy the player without the need for super complete rhythmic patterns. I hold bais-personally don't like tech that much which is the foundation to most of the breakcore charts and I do see why Breakcore is great for people who enjoy tech, but to me and for a lot of players pattern variety doesn't matter all so much Overall very nice video even though I disagree with the main idea
mapping breakcore is pretty fun ngl. flashbulb's breakcore stuff especially is fun to map as well. i've always loved breakcore (when its not being made by some producer that uses trashy amen break samples and chops it sloppily) for the cut up and complex drumwork, and mapping it is equally as challenging yet fun as it is to make it and/or listen to it depending on who you are if y'all need breakcore just listen to Le Perche Oreille - Obsessive Lacework xanopticon - Liminal Space Renard - Trauma (Remastered) Terminal 11 - Illegal Nervous Habits The Flashbulb - Flexing Habitual Cristoph de Babalon - If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It
Wanted to try to map something when I was into mania and tried xanopticon - psicicite, I wasn't even mapping all notes and kept it around 3.5 - 4 stars so I could play it while I map, and still I gave up after mapping a half of the track and never released it. Probably should've started with something easier for a first mapping attempt.
if you are really looking for breakcore charts, then take a look at all of osu!taiko as a game mode. id estimate that a solid 50% of ranked charts above 8* are breakcore, not even mentioning how prevalent it is overall
Ok BUT dumping exists where you Can make essentially any song hard You want to play germany's Anthem but thé chart gets progressively faster until thé ending becomes 487bpm madness? That's germany's OP in German dump mini pack 2 Want to play hard, speedy and technical charts of anything from thanos beatboxing, baka mitai or 2 community members doing stupid stuff in vc?You'll find all 3 that i mentioned and more on valedumps 1-3
uhh not really, there are charts that are not breakcore and they have a variety of snaps/bpm changes, dump charts there are a lot, and i mean a lot of dump charts in osu!mania and etterna, like idk the entire valedumps series
well yea, i didn’t say breakcore is the *only* genre that can provide interesting rhythms, just that its a genre that consistently does it. There are also other genres that also constantly provide cool rhythms like IDM which i didn’t rlly mention. I agree that i should’ve clarified that more tho also yea charts can be interesting even without these genres, i completely agree

not to mention how artists like kurokotei either used to or still have close ties with taiko

jazz maps
how about polyrhythmic song?
those too
the fact that most 'hard' SV maps have polyrhythmic songs
skin?
Eliminate skin
breakcore is only a perfect genre for tech or stream mania maps
breakcore is somehow preferred by players with adhd. and somehow the background of it implies suicides. which is weird.
i find dariacore to be good for maps aswell
