If you are at all like us, odds are you grew up falling on one of two sides of an epic playground feud. Nintendo, or Sega. Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog.
If that battle at all started to involve the discussion of films, for the longest while, Mario won by default. Because while the Super Mario movie wasn't exactly what one would call good by any stretch of the imagination, the mushroom-munching plumbers, at least had a big budget Hollywood film under their tool belts.
Well now, Sonic has finally stepped up to the plate with the simply tilted Sonic the Hedgehog, which just hit theaters. And it's actually not too shabby. It's got a lot of heart, some absolutely bonkers acting from Jim Carrey, significantly better CGI then what we saw in that one trailer, and a lot of little Easter eggs and details for fans of the blue blur to sink their teeth into.
And there is a ton of stuff in this movie. So much in fact that most people couldn’t possibly catch them all. Luckily, we were able to spot quite a few that you may have missed. So we are of course going to breakdown a handful of these easter eggs in this video.
Also, this video is going to be just absolutely chalked full of spoilers. So I would suggest that you go check it out before watching this video. All good? Cool.

3:16 the echidnas at the start of the film were shown to have almost the exact same designs as the ancient echidnas from Sonic Adventure 1. They even use spears as shown in the game. I just liked how they started the movie off with such a strong reference to my favorite Sonic game.

The echidnas came from an ancient tribe that worshiped the power of Chaos. They were the original holders of the 7 Chaos emeralds and the emerald that controls them, the Master emerald. (Kinda like the 7 dragonballs) The sequel is going to be about Sonic Tails and Knuckles, introducing the chaos emeralds. I guarantee it.

Just when Sonic is about to make a run for it in his cave, he puts on a large cowboy hat with stars. In the Sonic Ova, Knuckles wore a (admittedly less gaudy) cowboy hat. WITH STARS.

One thing nobody has mentioned yet. At the end of the movie when Tom and Maddie are fixing their house, you hear the Green hills music from the game in the background.
I recognize that. I was singing along.
They missed his headband too, it's the classic logo

When on top of the building in San Fran there is a scene where Sonic is seen looking at the time on his watch then proceeds to tap his foot. This is a nod to Sonic 1 when you leave the controller untouched for 10-20 seconds
Also present in Sonic 2 and 3. In Sonic 2, part of the animation includes him looking at his watch just like he did in that shot.
The end credits confirms that.

When the drones are shooting at sonic at the top of the building the bullets are moving slow but dr robotnic's finger moves a bit faster than the bullets to touch the button.
Actually the car bed was a nod to Sonic’s bedroom in the Archie Comics series. He had a bed that looked exactly like it

I like how they keep showing the Hill Top Rd sign when Sonic is playing ping pong by himself in his cave, but never mention that Hill Top is a level in the games.

Was wondering the same thing. Also, if they're going to play a "Super Sonic" theme song for the movie's teaser trailers, why not show the actual Super Sonic during the movie itself? Guess they want to leave the chaos emeralds and Sonic's transformation for the sequel (if there is one). Finally, who wants to bet that in the sequel (again, if there is one) that Dr. Robotnik uses Sonic's quill to create Metal Sonic (or one of his variations like Mecha-Sonic or Silver Sonic)?

Ah, the mid-credit scene. Loads of parents with kids left as soon as the credits rolled while I enjoyed the artwork. After that scene, looked around and there were like 4 of us left looking like, hey, we know how this goes. B)
When sonic says, “uh, meow?” I think it’s a reference to Sonic X as when sonic is found on earth, the main character says he is a cat.

When Sonic is running away from Robotnik, there's a brief slow-motion shot where Sonic kicks away one of Robotnik's missiles, and the pose that he's in during the kick is the exact pose that he strikes in Super Smash Bros.

The first appearance of the Sonic Characters in cars were actually Sonic Drift for the Game Gear.

The snow scene in the background of when Robotnik was “skiing” was the same one used in his movie, The Grinch. Also, when he first used the buttons on the palm of his glove, they were the same buttons on the Genesis controller AND he was tapping them in the same way in order to play as Tails in the game.

One thing that I caught that most didn’t see. Once when Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey) was researching Sonics quill , listening to his tunes of anarchy, praising around his ship, (being Jim Carrey) he opened his coat and the inside of his coat reveals the contour outlining of the fat robotnik. Maybe he designed his black coat in honor of his grandfather. And one more thing. Sonic originally came from the planet Möbius, which was never mentioned in the film
It's never mentioned in the games, either. Giving his planet the name "Mobius" is only done in various cartoon series.

When Robotnik brings up his music playlist, 2 of the playlists are labeled Crush 40.
Radar guns can't pick up speeds over 300. Heck that's even a really good radar gun because most don't go higher than 200.
4:44 If sonic was so fast that he can make everything around him go in slow motion, then maybe he wasn't choosing to go at his full speed in this scene and maybe the radar gun was just giving a guess of Sonic's speed
Or the film theorist's explanation that the radar gun wouldn't be able to handle sonic's speed. for evidence this is why the speed is like this may be because in his og theory he looked at the trailer which showed how incorrect it was in basic stuff.. hard for me to explain here but you can find the theory and see for yourself...

If you look at Sonic’s headband when he was in his cave you could see his classic sonic logo on it but without himself, I wasn’t born in the time when Sonic games existed but I know what the logo looks like, anyone noticed that reference, I did well from another CZcamsr that mentioned it so yep, now I know about it now.
Watched it two times in a row last night; once w my children then later with my bro. Love love love it. Hilarious for adults, clean enough for all kids. ... super cute film, great Easter eggs. Fave scene MOS Def was Sonic tapping his foot and checking his wristwatch on the roof, with 1,000 bullets in the air around him.

The reason why San Francisco was include in the movie is because Central City, in the Sonic universe, serves as the capital of the United Federation. Central City is based off of San Francisco. You can see the Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower, and Mission Street in different games.

In addition to the sega saturn logo the map also shows south island (home of baby sonic aka sonic 1), the shrine of the master emerald which is angel island where knuckles resides, and the bonus stage world which also is only available via the warp rings.
At the end of the movie In The Attic when Sonic was looking at his new cave there was a lone glove pinned up on the wall I'm wondering if that was a nodd to Michael Jackson being his inspiration

I saw mostly Sakura Wars in the new SEGA logo. I saw Sonic in different games in the middle though. I also saw Space Channel. I saw Altered Beast, Golden Axe, and more of my childhood games.

John L hated working on that movie. He said the only thing that made the experience good was working with his lady lead and Bob Hoskin's scotch.
I love and own the movie on DVD, but I understand why some short minded people didn't like it. It was definitely a leap of faith back in the day, but consider this. Back then, video game movies didn't have much to go on. They did better than the cartoon in my opinion.

When sonic used his nunchucks his headband has the classic design that sonic stands in at the beginning of sonic Mania. Also when sonic jumps in the air (street chase and possible city escape reference scene when the slow motion jump happens he dose his super smash bros ultimate character select screen pose.
Anyone notice when they were in the town at night time, Sonic’s reflection in Dr Eggman’s googles when he started lighting up looked like Mephiles the Dark *to a tee* ??? I got chills when I saw it!!!!
They still did the classic "SE-GA" sound during the intro but it was orchestrated.
And I see Streets or Rage 2 in the intro.
Could have mentioned the scenes where Sonic loses his rings every time (or most times) he takes damage while holding them.
Also, the "TV Powerups" in the games being represented as Sonic's passion for watching TV and using movie references throughout the movie. XD

At 5:50 Sonic's headband has the opening logo from the first game. Also the rubber band ball was an from episode in Sonic Boom
Green Hill zone looks fantastic, a sequel there would be amazing.

What I think people miss is that this is a Rated: PG movie. For its rating, its one of the best movies I've ever seen
Max Mirasola only one major plot hole bothered me and that was when they got to San Francisco and sonic didn’t just run up the building despite showing already that he can indeed run up walls. They at least tried to have a reason why he didn’t just run to San Fran by himself first because he got shot with a tranquilizer and the affects were not completely warn off for his legs o move fast enough and then the other him not knowing how to get the San Fran so he did in fact need a guide or a map but maybe he didn’t know what maps were lol

When he took his first hit from robotnik on the skyscraper he dropped all his rings they scattered outwards and had very nostalgic sound from the games even when he picked them back up it made the coin chime for collection

I loved it! Took the whole family and even my wife and mom liked it. Totally worth the watch. It's a fun movie that just about anyone can enjoy.

well i can think of 2 that people may have missed . sonics head band that he is wearing has the sonic logo on it from the game and at the end where they are painting you can hear in the background the sonic theme music from green hill zone being played slowly
I knew about tails at the end cause when it was over I didn't really care about turning off the credits so I noticed something at the end TAILS he appears by a gust of wind its awesome im actually looking forward to getting the sonic racing game cause I half like Mario now
