  • Your Farm Needs This Cocky's Gate/Wire Gate. Spanning long gateways has never been so easy, strong and effective. Wire gates (Cocky's gates) have been used for many years but are almost always hard to get tight and use well. This inexpensive kit makes the gate perform better and means anyone can close the darned gate!

    1/2 socket drive and ratchet would be the cream on this product.

    Nice work! One of the best features of a cocky gate is missing though. A part that wacks untrained and unauthorized people in the face when they use it :-)

    Basically it is known as a version of the "Taranaki Gate", which is named for a region in New Zealand. The concept is over 150 years old, if not older

      @FarmLearningTim  Před měsícem +8

      There is also the Mallee gate (over 150 years old) Cockie gate etc etc. We made the point that the gate design is not new pretty clear.

    I'm sharing this with a couple of friends who have aircraft hangars on their properties and some of the most awkward stock exclusion fencing I've ever seen. Thanks Tim.

    Brilliant idea, if you’re still in contact with him, let him know there is a ratcheting version of what he’s using. This would mean you wouldn’t have to remove the crank handle and use the next hole, just back and forth like any ratchet handle. He’s made these out of truck tie down ratchet mechanisms that are normally mounted to trucks, lengthened the tube in the middle massively. Again, beautiful design and so wonderfully simple.

      Also Tim question, your a man who knows wire knots and a challenge to you, what knots are out there for joining 3.15mm soft wire to Iowa barb, I've tried a few but they end up looking messy, and I'm always keen to improve my skills

    Built a version of this years but had a crank handle permanently attached, definitely good for over 100 foot. But save yourself the effort and use black plastic droppers instead of cut steel makes it much lighter.
