At first, Jessica thought she made a mistake when she rescued Seamus. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Hi. I have a baby one named, "CHOMP". When I first brought him home he seemed kind of skittish. But I called the lady I got him from and he started mellowing out after he heard her voice telling him that he was going to be ok. That he has someone who loves him. Pretty cool to watch him come out of his shell and actually listen to her.

I have a tortoise, Rover, that I took over from y dear late Mother. He is about 50 years of age. He is an unknown type, possible Greek, He has really blossomed over the last few years. He is highly intelligent, loves company, and his party trick is to push my wheeled garden seat around my garden; he has even been videos doing that with a 4 year old sitting on the seat. They’re amazing, but then they’ve been around for a few million years, so they’ve learned a thing or two!

God love her for giving Shamus his life! She has allowed him to be him, not what she wants him to be! If moving all her pots and plants and table and chairs is the worst he does, he is filling her heart with nothing but love and laughter!

🐢😁Ah I definitely got the impression that he felt abandoned by his previous owners & his last owner having him since he was 6 months old definitely explains that aggression a bit more. It's clear he eventually realized he was given away out of love. Loved seeing his current owners' dedication (between showing her watering his shell & the fact that she was willing to drive all the way to Arizona to get him says a lot)!

Our 2 dogs initially barked on our rescued little turtle.. She could move freely around the house and garden. In a couple of days, they all walked around together and sleep in 1 bed, the turtle cuddled in their fur. :)

I am 58 years old and have had my lovely Pepo for 54 years. I have read all over the last ten years about tortoises. If he is hungry he will ram against things. Especially if he has just got up from hibernation. They love challenges, climbing and pushing things around, especially if they are black colored so it is nice to pile up things in a corner, he will surely go up an come down with a thump !They are quite sociable and love getting cuddles and they love human company once they have got used to you.
During the mating season they get rather rough and try to hump anything....flowerpots, shoes or anything they can climb, poor souls. You should cut the cucumber in smaller pieces and the pumpkin too. They love hibiscus flowers which are very nutritious for them. Oh it is important to place a dish with water from which he can drink and if you have a tray or something big enough where he can get into, he will have a warm bath. They get water through their ass hole and get hydrated. Be careful to place warm water for this. Hope you have a nice looooong frienship with him. He is adorable !❤
he is cute./ i am beyond glad u stepped up to help your aunt. families need to do that more. to make sure when a relative dies that all of their pets stay in the family or are rehomed to for sure good people. i mean what beter way to honor your lost relative than to care for their baby...

Of all the comments I have read, only two people realise that exotic animals are not pets. He is alone not by option, but because he was bought and had never had a chance of even mating. I agree, they are cute but not to have them as pets. What would be best, is to get in contact with an animal shelter and try to figure out whether he can be re-introduced into the wilderness, which is doubtful, most likely he was born in captivity. If that is the case search for a shelter where at least he can live among other tortoises.

Look my point of view is that he shouldn't be in a regular home.One thing is to have a small one or even two.But this is a disgrace . What's the point of killing your furniture.He could get wounded from ehat I've seen.The relationship with the dog doesn't impress me either.He could have another dog as a mote suitable companion.You were very kind to lets say rescue him but his place should be in the wild,hardly achievable in California or in a local reserve or well kept zoo with more suitable entourage and company.Besides,he could have sex and descendants.And you must know by now how long they live, these big fellows.What will happen to him if you pass away...You did the right thing.But now,I guess its time to move on ahead.. For his sake.

I don't think you can safely dump this tortoise to nature, it's too used to being around humans..
Sorry but you have no idea what you are even talking about.
Tortoise survival rates in the wild are extremely low. A very small percentage reach adulthood. That's why they lay up to 6 clutches per year and 15-20 eggs each time. Many Sulcata's in captivity however, are not well cared for. This one obviously is.
