To the extent that Malthus’ model was meant to predict the future of human society, I believe he was off on two accounts: (1) He underestimated the degree to which families would move from an r-strategy to a K-strategy as economic growth and national wealth increased. (2) He underestimated the degree to which technology primarily, and and the market mechanism secondarily, could increase the efficient discovery and use of resources.
