That is… the most accurate thing that also reflects my very Asian family
I think, throughout the whole show, Eric was some sort of son to Alvin because they share quite a few similarites: They both come from an Asian household and were forced to choose a career path they didn't want to take while dreaming about becoming a chef. Both then pursued their dream despite being culinarily untrained. I guess Alvin saw a younger version of himself in Eric, hence why he is sometimes so strict to draw out Eric's potential.

Aside from his constant sad expression, Eric was probably the only genuine guy here. So many cooks were doubting him, hoping he would fail so they could benefit off of it, and so much more but he absolutely stomped everyone and won by being too humble. Great dude deserved to win.

@YJL obviously they wanted to succeed, but the only way was for everyone else to fail. If he failed, they would’ve had a greater chance to win. They didn’t just want him to fail, they wanted to win.
@@letsgoyankees2636 The woman he was facing off against in the donut challenge said, "I'm glad he's making 8, that gives him a better chance to fail, which is better for me" The same woman also picked the ingredient she was less comfortable with only because she wanted to give Eric a "tough" ingredient. Her mentality of wanting Eric to fail, over her to succeed is what cost her the dub. I couldn't agree with YJL more. One that has the desire to succeed will constantly be improving themselves, but the one that has the desire for others to fail will never get much farther than the one they want to fail.
