DIY Backyard Vertical Drainage Installation

I have had issues for a while now with this section of my backyard not wanting to drain after it rains or heavy irrigation. I was tired of the patio and grass flooding, which made a mess, and the dog getting muddy. I came across an idea for vertical drainage online, and thought I would give it a shot for the yard. Follow along for my DIY vertical drainage project.

What a beautiful dog! I'm surprised you managed to get any work done. A couple of years ago, after some minor flooding, I dug a series of similar pits, an arm's length deep, in my front (gravel) driveway. It was 'made' ground, with builder's rubble and debris. I filled with gravel, but didn't use any membrane. No problems since.

So far no rainstorms since I installed it, but seems to be keeping the area dried out fairly well. The real test will be when it rains next.

5 mins video of digging. no testing. What's the lesson here?

The dog was very distracting for the viewer but especially for the guy. Last thing you want is a dog swallowing rocks and doing a vet visit so that is yet another reason why you put them away while doing the project (for their safety mainly).
As for the project, hand auger (work smarter not harder). I would cap it with a ten dollar drain cap and if you are going to do a DYI, also film the test which only takes using a garden hose and run water over the area. Thanks anyway for the video but hold off on more videos until you can mitigate the distraction and film test results.
