Unfortunately the senate just included the language in their bill and it matches the house language, which was my worry. Now we have both house and senate including the language and they match, so it is a 99.9% chance that it will go through. Some channels are mis-stating this, which is misleading and unfortunate. I may do another update video, but the best thing we can do it to reach out to our representatives, it does make a difference!

I'm AnSoc all the way, so trust me, I'm no fan of the govt., but this is sooooo "just another day in DC" and has very little to do with Stafanik or Skydio, those two are just jumping on the bandwagon because it benefits them. The first ban on DJI drones was in 2019, there has been 3 since. While I don't think this new ban is necessary, there are absolutely legit concerns regarding national security about Chinese electronics and specifically Chinese drones. China is going bye bye as a country by the end of the decade anyway, ban or no ban it's time to start looking for a new drone company.

  • @anobjectivereview

When they increased the licensing requirements for drones in the past few years, requiring citizens that make money with their flying cameras or choosing to volunteer their services for no fee to register with the government to operate a drone, the erosion of rights began. Since a camera drone is representative of our 1st Amendment right to free press (like any other camera), I feel this is the primer for additional laws that will first require licensing for a citizen to own a camera, but eventually cameras will become so costly that only the government will be allowed to use them for ‘safety and security’. This level of legislation is OUT OF CONTROL and our rights and freedoms to buy and use something based on our choice rather than the limits the government puts on us makes us no better than the very countries they are claiming are a threat. Our own government is the largest threat today to our freedom…

@@MrDecessus Not necessarily true. A lot of the cheap chinese clones are using open source software and open source board/controller designs.
And a number of cheap crap you find on aliexpress, is made with 'factory second' literally dumpster dive components. And that is how they got started.
We don't have that here in the US, because our labor cost more and we banned lead solder, way back in the 80s, but no one had figured out how to do wave soldering with lead-free solder, and robotic pick and pluck machines were new and very expensive.
We used to be able to dumpster dive for stuff here too. The issue is, they need a paper trail in case there is a problem, so a manufacturer can issue a recall for parts made between a specific time because they have a paper trail, they don't have to recall all of the products. So they order a cases of components with like 10 reels per case, in part because they are cheaper but also because they all come from the same manufacturing batch. Not all components work from the manufacturer, they have a defect rate of say 1%, so they spot check them, and if they don't pass the spot check, they get thrown in the dumpster, and the manufacturer sends them a new case.
The same thing happens at manufacturing plants, it is cheaper to throw out a bad batch, because now the components are mislabled so now, you can have xyz ic's or diodes or resisters. If you go through and test each one individually, you can find the bad ones and remove them. That pack of 10k resistors you bought from china for 3 dollars, is most likely just cut off the reels and repackaged and sold. They don't know why they are in the dumpster, they may not even test them. they make 3 bucks with maybe 50 cents in costs. That is like a days wages.
The same thing happens with say prototype board, they gOnce production is over, and after a certain amount of time, and everyone is happy, they throw out all the extras in the dumpster.
Well if you dumpster dive, you can get reels of components. they are either good components and they wer
      et thrown in the trash.
Then the 'engineers' that have the test set-ups, were probably staying after work, and using the equipment to do small runs of stuff.
They built a whole industry, based on industry waste. It is something we had, but we no longer do. The same thing happened in the UK.
Part of this is also liability laws. If it is a US manufacturer, then if something goes bad, you sue. If it is a chinese manufacturer, you aren't going to sue.

DJI (and other Chinese drone makers) are popular because they are far and away superior to any US made offerings. If the republiclowns were really concerned with peoples personal info and national security they would stop covering for an ex president who still possesses national secrets AND they'd stop funding a genocide that will inevitably turn many people to radicalized vengeance AND they'd pass legislation STOPPING our own corporations from selling our personal info for profit!!! In detail: typically i can fly under 400 ft. - on my controller i will get alerts outlining flight restrictions pertaining to Gov operations.
When Trump came bout .5 mile from my home the entire hood was a black out NO internet, elec, water, man hole covers lifted.
Men in black were on every street for more than a half mile from Trump event.
      DRONE
I was planning a 400 ft high launch to film the crowd from the same spot bout .5 mile away. flight restriction msg on my controller NO FLYING. I only need bout 50 ft to see the crowd over a home . WARNING AT 10 ft . You are about to lose control of your Name & ID of my drone. Your loss of equipment for non compliance WARNING!.
I landed my drone immediately. Men in Black were parked some standing all around close by now and knew exactly where I was at.
No idea, but I feel strongly that if I had not ID'd and came up as a UNKNOWN they would have came a knocking.
Here is the shocker, at 10 ft my drone would not go any higher. I didnt change modes I just brought the drone back down.
THEN my social media feed which I thought was not in my name had a PM with a warning of violations. I had never connected to any internet social apps- so for me that was msg: we see every move you make, they could have took the drone, charged me, obviously knew where I lived, CHILLING to say the least, owning a ID'd drone and ALL your privacy is gone.

What is really worrisome is a bill introduced in the Senate by a democrat, Sen John Tester from Montana. It echoes the house proposed bill with a few refinements. Sen Tester is a senior member of the Senate and chairs the Senate subcommittee on Defense Appropriations. These anti-drone bills, and more specifically these anti-Chinese drone bills are attached to the much larger defense appropriations bill which will get much more attention and has to be approved despite that it is so large no one really knows everything that is in it. With Tester’s backing and democratic control of the senate this bill will be sent to the democratically controlled White House to be enacted and signed into law. Now is the time for drone operators to be worried and to be very worried that these carefully crafted and disguised bills targeting the Chinese drone industry will come to fruition…

It is based on new imports being banned after 4 years. At that time they are talking about removing the FCC certification on the drones. So technically the existing drone could be illegal to fly without a valid certification if they decide to revoke the already issued one, BUT FCC has no enforcement arm to do anything about it, and the drone you poses would still show the FCC certification. So TECHNICALLY it could be considered banned, but in reality it will continue to fly just fine. Personally I wouldn't do any firmware updates if it passes to make sure no one pulls any funny stuff and tries to brick the drone that way, but that's giving congress a lot of undue credit that they would take it that far.

Don't fall for this espionage data security reasoning. That has nothing to do with the reason behind this bill. That's just how they're selling it to the public.
What they're worried about is far worse than data collection. China already has our data.
This is about something much worse that they're not talking about because they don't want to give people ideas.

I've already sent an email to our senators. Unfortunately, they do not have the time to respond to everyone on this matter so it's a pre-written response back. I literally just feel like our hands are tied!

Although you get a form letter back, the emails, calls, and letters ARE recorded and tallied by staffers. They then report to their bosses that, for example, 217 people contacted us wanting you to vote against the DFA. So, don't despair and keep writing.
By the way, a handwritten letter is given about 10x more weight than a petition according to my member of Congress. Too easy just to click a few times compared to actually writing a letter/card.

Writing to a politician is like writing to a career thief and expect him to change his mind!
It's a waste of time; they go with the flow; the government flow or is their lively hood at stake!

US manufacturers will struggle because they cannot easily export there machines due to ITAR restrictions, EU and Australian makers don't face such restrictions to send them that way.
