A fun little thing, I have covered Örebro Hockey for almost 10 years as a photographer. And Pat Verbeek was the only GM who came over to Sweden and saw Leo Carlsson play here in Örebro. So there was still a small indication that they were interested in him.

I don't really think it matters who went first so much as they just went.
They all have something to add and the team clearly saw something in him they believed would be a good attribute.
I'm sure they all look for specific things and maybe compare it to what they have to work with at the same time.

Theres some confusion in comments on where Leo will play next season now that he's signed his 3 yr entry contract w Ducks. The Ducks can play him up to 9games before his 3 yr contract starts. So what teams will do is if the players not ready for meaningful minutes yet or the team it self isn't going to be very good yet they can send the player back to his college, Jr's, or european team to keep developing without burning the 1st yr of his entry contract. If Leo stays w the Ducks or the AHL Gulls his 3 yr deal starts this yr. If he goes back to SHL it doesn't start till next season. He'll get 9 games w Ducks pretty sure and then they'll make a decision.

A month before the draft Fantilli was quoted in an interview that he hoped to play for Columbus. I think he made it clear to Verbeek that if picked by the Ducks he would delay his NHL career for as long as possible. I watched a mock draft program the weekend before the actual draft and Fantilli was a guest. One of the hosts asked Fantilli what he though of Zegras and the other Ducks he had met and what he thought about playing for the Ducks. His response was lackluster at best and he had an expression on his face like someone had farted. As a Ducks fan it was clear to me he did not want to be picked by the Ducks. And that was before I heard about the quote about wanting to go to the BJ's a month earlier. It was just that obvious.

@@Eric.43 sounds like you’ve been indoctrinated by the North American consensus. Each are elite talents in their own right. Fantilli is quicker, the better skater, shooter, and is more physically refined currently. Carlsson is a much better playmaker with an IQ that exceeds Fantilli’s. Defensively he’s more positionally sound and he just dominated one of the best leagues in the world, facing far tougher competition than Fantilli. Both are elite players, Fantilli is more NHL ready because of he’s close to his peak physical maturity already, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be the better player long term. Carlsson already has a big solid frame yet can put on so much more strength and improve his overall shooting so much to the point where he has a ceiling as a top 10 player in the world
