Again.. an amazing review... Little side note: You introduced me to Quebec 1759, very simple game but rewarding when the Brits are defeated :D lol Looking for a copy of HoldFast now
Great review. I tried this out on Vassal (awesome Vassal mod out for this!) and found it extremely enjoyable. It seemed to bring out major advantages of the classics on the subject (The Russian Campaign, Great Patriotic War, etc) while greatly simplifying the play, and mercifully shortening the playtime to a nice couple of hours session.
Mr. Marco Arnaudo, I must say, you are so gifted in your presentations of games. You have inspired me to go back to this game and play it some more. Typically I play a game a few times and move on to others. I already liked this game but was in the process of starting to learn another game. I have a few friends who I didn't get to play Hold Fast with so that will definitely be what we play next. I agree with all you said about Hold Fast...this is an amassing gem of a game. Keep up the great game reviews that you do so well...and thank you for your efforts.
I'm surprised that German and Russian armor (as well as Infantry) have the same stats. Perhaps the Axis player should get a modifier bonus on the first turn. Game looks great though!
the difference in quality and effectiveness is modeled abstractly by other means; the overall progression of the events is portrayed well, even if things may look unusual when you look at the details individually
Having noticed they are raising money for a reprint recently, I am wondering how this compares in your mind to other Russian Front themed games. I am looking for a good one but there just seems to be so many.

why would you play solitaire with the blocks face up? play it solitaire by going to the other side of the table each turn
Great video, btw I'm sure you know, but if you don't, there is a Holdfast Korea game on kickstarter.

Compared to East Front, which do you like better?
