On the Underground Paris New York Review
Can the miniatures be removed from their clear bases with the sticks on?
Marco…..have you ever considered inventing a game? I’m sure with your intellectual knowledge, expertise and interest you might come up with the historical wargames of wargames? I’d certainly be interested in any game you produced.
you may want to look into Four against the Great Old Ones then
“You’re saying it wrong.”
"It’s not a true monster game-it’s a semi-monster game about a monster event!" Great review Marco.
I can’t get past the “friendship bracelet” activity for keeping track of status. Too bad
Just bought the retail version and am kicking myself for not doing the KS. Great game and great review. Curious, what is the brand of your game shelf? I’m looking for the wider shelves like yours has.
Hello! Philipp here, the creator of Aces & Armor. If you have any questions about the game, I am happy to help and answer. I have worked on this game for many years and have put all of my heart into it. Please note that this is a miniature board game for a fun skirmish in under 2 hours, not a classical wargame. I just want to make sure I set the right expectations. This is not a historical consim game like many (great) hex & counter games.
Can the miniatures be removed from their clear bases with the sticks on?
This game is made by the same maker as Trench Club. That is their WWI game with the same mechanics.
Hi Alex! Philipp here, the creator of Aces & Armor. That's correct. Thanks for pointing this out.
Adding sticks ? no thanks
I love all the gamecocks you review - please keep doing ur
Thanks for the review!
The map and minis look amazing. But I agree the fiddly HP and XP adding to sticks is a turn off for me. Maybe they could implement that in a different way and give players some sort of historical theaters
Hi Jinstarro! Philipp here, the creator of Aces & Armor.Thank you so much! The system to track damage and experience on the miniatures with the beads on the poles has worked really well for a lot of players of our previously published games "Trench Club" and "Trench Club Legacy" which uses the same system. Just like everything, I totally understand this might not be it for everyone. Please also note this game was designed a fun and short skirmish boardgame, not a historical wargame. I just want to make sure to set the right expectations, so gamers can make a choice if that's the right game for them. If you have any questions, I am happy to help!
Lack of meaningful choices aside, it sounds like the grammar mistakes alone would end up irritating me. I guess this is a good example of the value in employing a skilled editor.
"Take with enough salt to form a circle of protection around your house against demon of bad games" Lol
I love the components of this game!!!!
Hi David! Philipp here, the creator of Aces & Armor.Thank you so much! I have experimented with different systems (cubes, dial wheels, etc.) to mark damage and experience on the miniatures and the beads-on-pole solution was what players most enjoyed. You can check-out reviews for "Trench Club" and "Trench Club Legacy" which uses the same system. I fully acknowledge that this is not for everyone - just like everything. Some people like rolling dice, some don't.
Thank you, Marco for another informative review!!! Somnambulism? Somewhere, the director of "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" is smiling. Sadly, this game book seems to have fallen short of expectations.
Is this also a solo game
Thank you for this video! I've been wondering what to do with a bunch of store credit I have at my FLGS and you may have solved that mystery for me.
Thanks. Always enjoy your content. And this gamebook looks very good. I like the puzzle angle! And if we are going to have a party, I do not want to do 4x the accounting -- glad to see he's designed some shortcuts like shared health. All the accounting is the reason why Four Against Darkness died on the table within the first hour (and D100 Dungeon was the one for me)
4 against Darkness TOTALLY got left behind. So many choices that blow that game away!
I'm definitely getting this. Looks ace.
There's a great evil in the land, and the only ones who can save the world are a small group of violent drifters?
There may be fewer gamebooks these days, but DestinyQuest books still come out WAY faster than I can play them. I've got all but this new one, but haven't even started Dune Sea yet.🤣 Being the start of a trilogy of giant books makes that one a bit intimidating to start.
Still, a nice problem to have!
Once you start, you won't stop! Raiders of Dune Sea is a massive advance on my other gamebooks - and I have a series of game guides on my CZcams channel to help with hero building.
Been following you for years. Keep it up. Good videos. ❤
Interesting. Thanks.
I can happily confirm this is a great game after 2 plays! Very much looking forward to game #3!
Thank you for the great review!
Marco, I love your T-shirt! "Stay on target!" Thank you for your review.
How can you buy these prints books in English?!? I can't find it anywhere except on a kickstarter page.
Can you play as two barbarians?
Thanks for the excellent content Marco. Have a spectacular weekend my Dude!
Love this! It's been sitting on my shelf. Now I'm really excited to get it to the table. Bonus points for that t-shirt! Stay on target, Marco!
This reminds me that I have a few GURPS Conan solo adventures sitting on my shelves for something like 30 years...
Great review. Appreciated hearing all your insights and perspective on the game. 👍Really like the Mark S games. Once you invest time to learn the core elements of the “system” in one of his games, you can quickly start enjoying other 4X games - basics in place and just need to learn the always interesting and often quite innovative features unique to each game….
Nava-ho
Good review. We always put a 20-second time limit on player 2’s last turn so that they don’t have forever to consider the perfect move.
sounds like a good fix!
Great game. I love the combos you can make. The Cold waters expansion is also really good. Thank you.
Im loving this game currently. I have the pnp version.
Excellent game
Love this review
For more action points couldn’t you house rule that to make it a standard amount each turn?
Couldn't ya just copy out whatever and then cut up the copied items? Glue the parts onto heavy paper.
Thanks for the video review. It was very informative. I learned that the game is not for me. I like to play the game, not the rules.
I haven't played the game so of course take my thoughts with a big grain of salt (and pepper). But it seems like you missed the whole point of the poker association in the mechanics. Your criticism of "if you get the better cards you win" could be levied against poker too, but any poker player knows that it's all about evaluating your hand's strength and then bluffing forcing your opponent to mis-evaluate your hand's strength in betting. All these elements seem to exist in this game so I'd be curious to know if you just don't think those elements work in this game or if you just didn't engage with them and why?
They should have upgraded the art on the scoring cards for Spice Road. In Golem Edition, each of them is unique and has an interesting illustration. In Spice Road, there are only a few images that repeat across multiple scoring cards.
Thanks a lot for the review, which gives a good idea of the game. Please note that you can increase the number of "horseshoe" tokens (e.g. up to 2 or 3) if you find that you require more action points to defeat your opponents. There is a relation between the sweat level and the action points table. The slower you are, the better you will aim. The game is also playable in a competitive way from 2 to 4 players. In the meantime the game is also available as a PnP game via Wargamevault (at about half of the price of the gamebook).
I bought a copy and enjoy it very much!!
Great game! Love the western theme
This is on board game arena for 1 or 2 plsyers
@28:40 - book 4 disconnected? Well we track through the countries like we'd do in book 6 and book 11.. we track the cult of the dark tenebrous evil... we get the dagger we will use in the 17th book if i'm not mistaken! Super impoirtant! We stop a sacrifice for the dark lords of helgedad could have changed things and meet some travelling troubadours and things like that which feel like book 1 , 2 and other later ones too
I'd love to buy this but just can't cut up the book to do so. If they release the cut-out stuff as PDF's I could download and print-n-play, then I'd jump on board. I love one the designers other games Knockout.
You can buy the pdf for 5$
@@claumoe Not completely right. The PDF for 5 $ are only for people who own the book. The PDF for 15 $ includes the rules and scenarios.
