Maarten did this unprecedented 45-hour swim to raise money and to honor his good friend. In my opinion, there is no swimmer who has done so much for so many other people as Maarten has. He has raised nearly 20 million euros to fund and support 45 different cancer research projects. Additionally, he is the only Olympic champion - in history - to overcome leukemia to win a gold medal. In the midst of fighting back from leukemia, he lost half his body weight. His pain was indescribable. Yet, Maarten continues to be a humble, insightful inspiration to many. So Alanna Guadalupe if you think this is inappropriate self-promotion, you are dismissing all the good and selfless actions that Maarten has accomplished in his life. Let others judge Maarten's accomplishments, mindset, and unselfish acts. Let others judge how offensive, inappropriate, and wrong your comment is.
