I think people mistake distinction for tribalism. Each different culture and its distinctions are what makes Nigeria the beautiful mosaic of a country that it is. For us, it’s important to understand the beautiful aspects of each culture and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. This is a Yoruba wedding, and if it was an Igbo wedding, that distinction should also be made to showcase the beauty of the tribe 💁🏾‍♀️

Listen you can't just call yourself Nigerian because you saw in a DNA test because of your ancestors, Nigerians are very tribalistic and unless you are a direct descendant like from your great grandparents or grandparents you are very much American take pride in that. I'm tired of seeing black Americans want to lay claim to a culture that they are very far removed from it is insulting to the people. You don't see white Americans stress over their European roots so why stress over your African roots? Enjoy being American and the culture blacks have created over there.

As for African clothes, thank God you can get that in your country too. I would do the same if I were you because I'm first African. Proudly Nigerian and proudly Yoruba, I'd never wish to be of another nationality.

The food! So true! I had to put my food down so my fiancé doesn’t serve our guests some bland under-seasoned dishes like what they are used to at most western weddings.
We’ve been married for 4 yrs now and people still talk about the food being the best they’ve had at a wedding. Even his family and friends. They also still talk abt the dancing and the whole party. my family, my friends, and I definitely did a good job showcasing what what a true African party is like.

Beautiful! It feels heartwarming to see these cultures and rituals thrive despite the blatant colonialism and forced conversion from traditional cultures.

Wow, absolutley beautiful. The Nigerian culture and other African cultures, I think personally is underrated in American culture. There is so much beauty in the textiles, food, and music/instrumentals, etc.

I love how everyone gets to shine in their own unique way. Reminds me a bit of my Indian culture too. What a splendid wedding ❣️
Wishing the best to the married couple. ❤️
