Thank you for sharing, mine was purchased in October 1985. Still have it. Just put new set of scales on it. Kept the old ones

That's my favorite knife too. I buy them whenever I run across one in good shape.

They started putting the sewing eye in the awl in 1985. I would guess yours would be close to that without the half-stop for the bottle opener and the grey magnifying glass. I just picked up a pre-85 model that seems to have not been used, though there is a bit of wear on the scales. I was tickled to find one that old in that good of shape! Good luck restoring the old girl.

I have one just like this, although I put Plus scales on it for the extra tools.
I think it's a really good selection of tools, and is a bit smaller/lighter than the SwissChamp.

On sharpening the sawblade I have found it is very effective to slide the flat side of the saw against a ceramic sharpening stone. Go in one direction away from the blade/teeth and then repeat on the other side. This will sharpen the exterior of the sawblades and keep the integrity of the internal Saw cutting teeth.

Good video! A nice collection...sad the previous owner did not care for the Champion, it's a beauty... I hope you will refurbish & restore it, including a new toothpick...I also hope you will reconsider fixing the chip..."Nomatic" on CZcams has a video on the restoration of an Explorer... in part 1 he shows the characteristics that make up a 30 yo knife...I have one like it...your Champion looks to be the same vintage...you might want to check out Felix Immler's channel...I think he may have a video on sharpening saws...nikgyver also has a video or 2 on how to determine the age of SAK s...he might have something on saws, both wood & metal...I hope this helps...

I'll definitely clear it up, polish it, oil it and sharpen it, like I said tho, thats a fair bit of metal to remove to get the chip, which will only shorten the blades life, I might change my mind, I'm not sure yet.
I've found knives and other tools in some really sorry states in the last 6 months, I found a chisel that must have been under watter for 50 years, it was just a lump of rust but I managed to bring it back to life, tho it was heavily pitted, wish I filmed it.

@@scotsman7626 sad, isn't, the way people abuse tools instead of just using them...isn't it a great feeling to restore a tool & make it new again? Perhaps you will show it to us some day... I added some additional info to my post for your consideration...you are correct, of course, concerning the chip...perhaps just enough by hand to smooth it out & give it a bit of an edge...

@@edgaraquino2324 yes it is sad, and it really is a joy to fix something or bring it back to life, actually one lot I won at auction had a lot of mind 50s spanners with the broad arrow /I\ and date, but where sadly cut in half, u think its the case of someone needing a tool for a job, but instead of buying a new one they just adapted what they had. Bag then Ex service tools probably would be been incredibly cheap, still said tho.
I'm sure in Subscribed to Felix and Nikgyver, and I watched them now and then.
I wond like to make videos on the topic(tho my skills and knowledge is very limited on the topic of restoration), many problem is I'm crap at editing a video together lol. If there is anything in particular you are interested in, I'm happy to take suggestions, within my capabilitie.
