We added one to a whitewater kayak we found for £40…it was, as you can imagine, hopeless on a river before…the results were absolutely incredible! It’s fast tracks, still steers fine and was so good…I’m adding a small one to my sundance 9 footer this year for coastal Brittany paddling..
I believe you would have been better off placing it further back to the rear! All my windsurfers design them to the back and they were more efficient! Placing it in the center makes it perform like a centerboard instead of a skeg. Mounting to the back stops the kayak from spinning or turning left to right!
This is a two person kayak, unfortunately this was as far back as I could get the fin and get it to sit flat. Still was a big improvement over not having it
Thank you I’ve been kayaking around 2 years not long just upgraded to a piranha mountain was second hand but great condition I’m struggling with kayak keep turning left so putting one of these on will help control the kayak from drifting left
Is it quite a big improvement? I brought an old fibreglass kayak and it washes out so easily, been thinking about doing exactly this. Cheers for the video exactly what I was looking for
The itself just slides out of the base when you remove the pin holding it. As for the glue, i never took it off sorry so i wouldnt know. Hope this helps
I put it as far back as i could but the base of the fin was not very flexible so i just applied it to where it would have the most contact with the kayak and as far back as i could. It worked though..... Thankfully 🙂
@@lewtube1136 haha thanks so much for the quick reply and this video - its such a great shout! im going to give it a go this weekend and will let you know how it goes!
Where the bottom started going flat, so as far back as i could get it and get as much of the skegs surface area attached to the kayak. Hope this makes sense lol

Thanks
i just done this with 2x smaller fins either side using ct1 flexible sealant works a treat
Nice one 👍
@@lewtube1136 be on it tomorrow hopefully the tracking on waves is better

Yes it helped. Before our kayak would move side to side allot whilst paddling, by applying the fin this was reduced quite significantly
Lewis's World great thanks for the reply, I’ve just ordered exactly what you had with the same epoxy, hope it works 🤞🏼👍
Is it easy to remove and will the glue damage the boat if you want to remove the attachment in the future ?

Can you tell me who makes that fin box or where you got it from?
Sorry i cant remember, i think i got it off amazon. But it was a long time ago
Hard to get anything to adhere longterm to the poly that kayaks are molded of...........is it still on there?
Yep, never used the marine weld before but i got to admit it is strong stuff
Hi Is the Skeg plastic or pvc? If the kayak is not the same as the skeg will the JB Bind still work?
Cant remember sorry, as far as i know that glue sticks anything together
hey man, thanks for the information. how come you needed to attach/glue it on a flat area rather than further back with a bit more of a contour?

Any issues when launching?
Nope, no issues. Worked perfectly
How far back did you put it?
Where the bottom started going flat, so as far back as i could get it and get as much of the skegs surface area attached to the kayak. Hope this makes sense lol
Did it ever fall/break off?
Not whilst I had it, actually it came up for sale again on market place and it was still attached so it held all this time
Can you do a revisit to this? Thanks.
Sorry no can do, sold that kayak a while back
Is it still on?
Yep
so how is it?
Works great, tracks better when paddling now.
@@lewtube1136 great..
It wont bond to HDPE it will fail
It worked just fine thanks 👍
@@lewtube1136 How would you know that if you sold the kayak like you mentioned on other comments?
@@ThatJerkFromCali because i used it for some time before selling
Bit of a nuisance for landing
Never gave me any problems 👍
@@lewtube1136 my kayak is heavy and like to land without getting the trousers wet😆
🤣 no worries 👍
