Many of your builds are slab on grade, what drives the decision to put in the footers and frost wall?

This one had heavy clay and water runoff ran towards the building. I don’t know the cost of the excavation and frost walls but would estimate $$20k-$30k

Wow, this is a complex build because of the frost walls too! I like the idea of a carport right next to this garage too. It looks like they had the anchor bolts in good places for this build. Putting the floor joists up with the ladder hoist looked pretty easy. I like how you had the rafters tie into the little tip out of the roof. Working in the rain too! Closing in the second story looked good and fast too. I like the anchor/ledger board you put to anchor the carport roof to. I like the slant of the carport roof. Wow, the metal roof and soffits went on fast. A door upstairs to nothing. So the owner is putting on a deck. That looks beautiful Ken!

I really enjoyed this video and learned some new insights. Got a couple of questions. First, there are different ways to build the gambrel. In a timber frame, we often used two secondary bents where you had walls. It saved the space along the edge. Why did you elect to not use the space on the edge of the roof? Also, when you installed the grace ice shield on the roof, you didn’t peel the back. Am I missing something here? That was grace right?

Wild guess is the customer insisted on the full foundation, which is not your usual build. What was the difference in cost between this and the typical floating slab? BTW, I can see how the j-bolts in the walls slow things down compared to drilling for anchors. At least they had them in the right locations.
