just before you install new taps you might think of putting in isolatation valves in just hide them behind the pedistool there very use full and you dont have turn off the water at the mains or effect every other tap :)
I think it was because the basin was stuck to the tiles using silicone. The tile adhesive was probably just ready mixed stuff out of a tub, so the bond between the basin and tiles was the strongest bond. Best of luck with the plumber training ;-)

Another beauty of a video. When putting the new basin in, would you use the existing plugs in the wall, or would you remove them and replace with new? Is it difficult sometimes to get the old wall plugs out?
No, it is there to prevent the pipes from ever becoming live, in the event of an electric cable touching the metal pipework. My basin after removing the screws is stuck fast with glue it's not shifting, how do I tackle that? I don't intend to redo the tiling need some advice.
It's difficult when it's been stuck with something. You might be able to break the bond by cutting through the adhesive using a large hacksaw blade or similar and by carefully applying up and down pressure to the basin.
Is this a typical English faucet set up. Because here in America our supply lines are usually braded, plastic and sometimes copper, connected to angelstops. And we have p-traps for our drains. Never seen a drain like that. It looks like it has a clean out on the back?

@ultimatehandyman never heard of a vanity unit. i learnt it a college last week with all of the new build they have to be fitted with an isotation valve its a good idea to be honest :) id thought id give you a little pointer for the future preference ;)

Is good to spray wd40 on silicone before you cut it. In breaks silicone and gives knife a slip

Why were you cutting the pipe? I’m a beginner learning but s this standard to cut the pipe?
If you are refitting a basin, you don't need to cut the pipes.
I was fitting a vanity unit, so had to cut the pipes to fit

Heat gun to soften the adhesive. Then it should be easier to remove without ruining the tile.

No, it will be fine to remove them with the electric switched on, but they should be reinstated as soon as possible.

Why the push fit stop cap for the sink and elbow things for the bath removal?
The push fit stop ends mean you can quickly turn the isolated water back on.

There should be some isolating valves somewhere, possibly near to the immersion heater tank (but could be anywhere).
