Umineko no Naku Koro Ni also known as Sea Cats is a visual novel that a few people like to talk about. Hopefully the new Higurashi season is a sign of good things to come for Umineko too...

Can't wait to turn 50 and re-read this VN while going through my midlife crisis
that would actually fuck me up now that i think about it
Be prepared to scream "BEATORIIIIIICHEEEE" at the sky for hours on end. But I will probably be right there with you...
ayo same
I feel like there'd be a solid 30% chance of coming out of that deciding to summon furniture of your own. like, it wouldn't even be hard, it's the 21st century, internet figured out how to do it already
@@Shuukuriimudaisuki-sama OH DESIRE
everytime this guy calls her BEATRISSS instead of BEATRICHE my italian heart breaks
Yeah, the pronunciation was lost on me since I read the original doujin version first (without voice) and didn't pay attention to things like...the katakana used for foreign/fantasy names, so I continued in ignorance. But later I learned it really is important to pronounce it correctly XD
Beatriche
I think the Japanese pronounce it in general that way too. Not the first time I've heard them pronounce it that way in other media.
@@rjmax3311 In Re:Zero it’s pronounced “Be-a-to-ri-su”
Here in Brazil the pronunciation is BEATRICÊ (oh lord i hope É and Ê are a thing around there because explaning it would be hell)
The thing about Umineko that affected me the most is that literally everything I experience in life since I finished this VN, I experience through an "Umineko filter".
It changed the way I think about literally everything and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
The Umineko brainrot is real.
Also, fuck yeah. Erika best girl.
say it in red
You cant hate the gremlin
sameee umineko has to be one of the most influential pieces of media i have ever experienced
The main thematic element of the game really changed how I approached relationships in general tbh
also it felt so good when I pulled off hempel's raven in an argument irl once
When arguing I keep thinking in the umineko way nowadays
It's like Dark Souls for the games, it sets a huge challenge for future masterpieces. Now Dark souls is often used as an adjective for any niche media (videogames the most) which is exceptionally good in its genre.
Umineko makes the bold suggestion that people born into wealth and raised by a callous hypercapitalist might sometimes be awful human beings who abuse each other the way normal people breathe
this comment does not have love
So called "free thinkers" when they see Kinzo say "BEATORIIICHIII": haha what a silly man I would never do that
So called "free thinkers" after completing Umineko: "BEATORIIICHIII"
Also props for using the song "Apathy". It goes overlooked but it's one of my favorites.
The rabbit hole for "When they cry" is deep...like it's a whole abyss, just when you thought it was just Higurashi and Umineko, there's still the ongoing Ciconia...
Ciconia phase 2 never T-T
I really couldn't get into Cicionia. Which honestly I'm happy about I've dedicated more time than I'm comfortable admitting consuming When They Cry VNs
They are forgetting "Loopers" a kind of When They Cry but with another name, there are witches and fragments.
@@HallMarkHM thanks for the recommendation
@@HallMarkHM woa
When the small bombs cry, that's when our love story began.
"And I shall add this. You are incompetent!" *Deadpan face
Best visual novel ever, took me 8 months to finished it too because I really wanted to slowly enjoy every second
so true jose
And then when it ended, kind of wanted it to be longer :(
@@godiloveminininjas4278 This is the problem I have with every great story, Higurashi included. You get so attached to the characters and the world they live in that it's hard to leave. Subsequent reads can always be fun, but there's nothing quite as powerful or charming as the first time, in which it truly pains you to let go.
It's a toss up between umineko and dies irae/kajiri kamui kagura
@@Shuukuriimudaisuki-sama personally I was just happy for it all to finally be over. I have a lot of anime and manga to read before I get in my forever box. Can't waste my whole life on one IP. Cuz once I finish all the anime and all the manga if I still have time leftover I can spend it learning Japanese.
The Umineko experience in a nutshell.
From laughing at kinzo to reference it on a daily basis, from cringeing at maria for her weird pattern of speech to wanting to protect her from everyone and everything (and become her father in law), from wanting to solve the epitaph and learn the truth to believe in magic and keep her story alive. Sleep peacefully my beautiful witch Beatrice.
Uu-uu!
Straight facts
Anytime I had to watch Rosa beat Maria I felt myself dying inside. That shit was worse than any of the murders. Rosa is such a pos I swear, but then again most of the characters in this series are absolute trash individuals.
god that twist with maria hit me harder than anything I've every experienced in media before tbh.
I cant watch debates anymore without visualizing the debaters pulling out blue swords that turn red when they preset evidence and everything i hear them say turns red and blue, but mostly blue since were all human. It makes debates look like anime showdowns
Without Love, It Cannot Be Seen.
Reading Umineko took me 217 hours, which would make me the slowest Umineko reader of them all.
Finally something I'm the best at!
...
Well, you like umineko. That means you are obligatorily one of my favorite people on the internet now,and i feel morally obligated to subscribe to your channel.
I have reread this like, 3 or 4 times now?
What is absolutely amazing is the construction of the story, where every chapter is constructed in at least two layers, with a main story and a background story.
On a first read, you're mostly looking at the main story and trying to figure out its mysteries.
On a second read, you also understand the background stories that's happening, how everything's constructed, and what they actually mean.
The second read of Umineko is absolutely worth it as so much of Umineko can be seen again in a fresh new light.
On the third and fourth reads after a few years, well, Umineko is so friggin' long that I actually forgot incredibly important character details and plot twists, so I ended up re-experiencing the big reveals again, which absolutely delights me. Somehow, Umineko continues to surprise me, and whether it's because it's an absolutely amazing work or that I'm just stupid, I am grateful either way.
I keep waiting for my obsession with this story to die down but it keeps burning brighter and brighter
It's always a good day when a new Umineko video comes out on CZcams!
Also, I definitely know why you didn't make a spoiler segment considering the total number of people looking for Umineko Plot analysis in 2022 is in the double digits, but I would have liked to have another Episode 7 Tea Party reaction that I could rewatch every now and then since it never gets old.
Lastly, I noticed you didn't include Far in your favourite OST list. Despite it being the best song in the game (excluding the vocal version of The End of The World because that wasn't used in the game though you should still look it up it has 2 million views you can't miss it...) Curios.
I might make a spoiler thingy at some point down the line.. not sure yet

You see I wanted to make this joke in the title but apparently youtube doesnt let you use !!

"Erika is my favorite"
I couldn't tell at all!
You’re so right, how could anyone ever not like erika??}?}??!?!?
My only regret about loving this character is the lack of doujins and fan fiction because I want more blue haired rat content.
Because she's in my way of loving Bernkastel.

Let's go another person who's read Umineko, thanks for spreading this around my guy
Recently Umienko got two new short stories called Our Confession and Last Note of the Golden Witch, being this last one an epilogue story for Umineko and... OMG Ryukishi made me cry again!!! I guess that's why the whole series is called When They Cry.
Where can I find the epilouge and does it adapted in english?
You mean the manga?
@@suiseiyabe6966 It's not readily available to do yourself, but a few people have recordings with good captions: czcams.com/video/EHBioFNz6rs/video.html
@@anomitas No. The whole Umineko franchise (yes, even the extra TIPS) has been re-released as Umineko no Naku Koro ni Saku. Ryukishi07 does not want it translated yet as he wanted Witch Hunt to focus on Ciconia first but Last Note of the Golden Witch was included in there as an extra material which also serve as the final nail of the Rokkenjima Catbox
Umineko really is a life changer, I will always remember my visit to rokkenjima island fondly, and I will never forget the secret behind magic.
Umineko has a very dear place in my heart, so it's great to see people still making videos about it.
As a story, I think it has affected me more than any other story, and the final choice had me in agony over which was correct, even if it had no material difference.
I started reading it roughly around the time Witch Hunt released episode 3. There was pain in the waiting, but it was worth it.
Finally I see your Erika and raise you a Dlanor.
Umineko is one of the best stories ever
As a wise man once said in the comments of a video I don't remember the name of... The final plot twist is that you were the seagull crying all along.
Loved the video btw.
that was under the end of the world track.
Your editing is quite remarkable, I’ll gladly stick around to witness more of this quality in the foreseeable future! Here’s a sub from yours truly to show you my gratitude!
I still think about Umineko every fucking day and it won’t stop. Glad to have found this channel so I can watch something other than Vtubers and other people reading Umineko/Higurashi.
glad to find another 2d idol and Umineko enjoyer.
Yeah, this has my favorite soundtrack ever. I'm sure there are a lot of things you will pick up on reread, sometimes it's almost frustrating how blatantly some things are hinted at in hindsight.
The beauty of it is, so many things that are hidden in plain sight are carefully camouflaged behind something that jacks with your emotions. It puts you in Battler's position so that you aren't thinking as critically as you could be due to the shock, etc....and once you get past that and reexamine the scene later, lo and behold, it hits you like a ton of bricks. Brilliant tactic, really.
“I’m gonna grab the culprit by the collar” comes to mind . Also Krauss: “My father is already dead”.
I finished reading few days ago. I have to say, this is literally the best thing I have read.
Took me 200+ hours but it was worth it. In the end it left me with feeling of emptiness... "I'm done... now what..."
The BGM really made the whole experience awesome.
Let's not forget about the track called lixAxil, a banger, that unfortunately played only once during the whole game....
since you said lixaxil is your favorite let me just ruin it for you, the beginning of it sounds the exact same as the minecraft hunger games song
@@Keksi wtf
Now it’s Ciconia time.

umineko's ost is godly but it also got me through some DEEPLY hard times, like..
so much was happening in my life, most of it my fault some of it extremely distressing, but umineko always got my back.
ALSO ERIKA MY BELOVED WIFE MARRIAGE MARRY ME I LOVE YOU VERY GOOD STEP ON ME
OMG i also struggle with depression and i can also agree that umineko has always gotten me back, and overall has helped my depression in ways that other stuff such as talking to someone, going outside, talking to therapists, etc simply could not. i think the umineko ost is finally what i have found to make me a less depressed person. theexecutioner for example, is a really good anger reliever and goldenslaughterer and birth of a new witch just make me feel on top of the world listening to them, and has MASSIVELY improved my self esteem. May umineko be forever blessed! Even if 500 years into the future if it’s forgotten by everyone, i will NEVER forget that it changed my life. And seriously, an anime VN changing a LIFE says a lot and in my heart, yes THAT is the magic that is real. Umineko is my heaven and home🥰💞🥹
also, yes erika is the best 🥰
Dude your edit is very good and it really convinced me to continue Episode 2. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this review. Because of it I read what turned out to be my favorite story ever
Umineko is the story the world both needs and deserves but isn't ready for right now because... Well actually I don't know why
Probably because people nowadays have low attention span lmao
Excellent summary I'd say! Good job.

Wow found your channel randomly and great to see an umineko video in current year. I also spent an ungodly amount of time reading both the VN and the manga in 2020
I'm getting mad demolition d vibes with your edits and gif usage and I'm loving it
An excellent video, you've got a very likeable personality, and this game is just as incredible as you've said.
Quality video like always. Thank you for the dedication, Pepsi.

Looks like I need to read Umineko this music, ai chats, arts, connections to Higurashi convince me to do this. I think that everything is on much grander scale than on Higurashi and everything is more magnificent
I finished reading Umineko today and I just now watched your video. I am now ready to die the death.
When the seagulls cry, no one is left alive.
One thing I absolutely adore about most of the music tracks is that heaps of them have the leitmotif for the song Hope somewhere in them.
After watching this video i immediately started reading umineko and just finished it recently.
Its honestly one of the best and enjoyable games I've ever played.
The characters and soundtrack are amazing and i don't think I'll ever forget my time with this game, ActivePain was probably my favorite track and its ashame it was only used once.
Now i can finally move on to higurashi and ciconia and fall even further down the 07th rabbithole.
This was my first visual novel and man it was an absolute blast of a trip. I fucking loved every second of it and it really made me see how much a beautiful written story can change my perspective on characters, myself, and maybe even a bit of the world around me. Also I'll be waiting for the proper anime adaptation in 2999.
(Also my favorite song is "Deep Blue Jeer")
230 hours
only a little over 1 million words.
My condolences to you, bro.
I remember getting so into this VN that I actually turned Beato's laugh sound file into a ringtone that I actually still use to this day. SO as you can imagine, every time the laugh came up in this video, I kept looking over at my phone thinking someone texted me. 😅
Relatable, also it took me a whole summer to read the whole thing.
Probably one of the better seacats introductory analysis videos to grace youtube
Umineko is an experience and the soundtrack slaps so hard
the executioner is my favourite track in the entire OST to listen to outside of the game.
It's hype, it's tense, and it's a banger.
YES GREAT UMINEKO CONTENT !!!!!! Thanks for cheering me up with this after Muv Luv Alternative Broke me in half like Episode 8 ending.
Umineko and MGR: carefully crafting the best game soundtracks of all time
Feels so good to find more people giving the actual respect this gorgeous work deserves. This is also my favorite fiction work, or work in general rather, in the whole world.
you have to live a pretty dull uneventful life in order to have the time and attentionspan to devote to a 200+ hour experience. You know in the past people would have mystical experiences by laying motionless in silent darkness for like 7-10 days. I'm glad we don't have to do stuff like that anymore and can read VNs instead. It's a lot more interesting.
I think all you really need in life is one good Out Of Body experience. It only needs to last like 5 seconds. Soon as you get out of your body and you feel the peace that exists beyond your lifespan, it makes you realize that going through human suffering is okay and kinda worth it because once your dead there will only be eternal peace.
Despite knowing all this, I still do 0 push ups and 0 curl ups a day.
I do watch at least 10 hours of anime a day tho so its not like Im wasting my time.
"When They Cry" more like When *We* Cry
Man im part of the ppl who read it as they came out each year, waiting for translations watching the leaks the fake characters ln 4chan the trie characters who everyone believed were fake was a damn rollercosaster and i believe u wouldve enjoy it so much. Us og fans of the series also enjoy and never overlook the soundtrack, even today I can hear that music on the background asnI work or write . Even more each year when the novels came out ppl would also create a music video called the Umineko Motion Graphic which helped with the hype. I believe u wouldve enjoy the madness back then it was a different feeling , a feeling of speculation online and theories and pure madness. Glad u enjoyed it !
Read Higurashi a while back and it's lived rent free in my head ever since. I should really get around to Umineko.
watching you basically say what I feel about the series 1 for 1 felt so surreal and almost like talking about the series with a friend (parasocial much lmao). I recently got my brother to read the manga adaptation so I'll finally have someone close to me to discuss this beautiful clusterfuck with :D
My life for 3 months. Now that I finally started Umineko, I see Umineko references EVERYWHERE. Like in Omori, in a french artist con, I see artists I've known for years drawing Beatrice...And worse, my brain sees Umineko everywhere. A fake lingot at a pet store? GASP. Pr Layton and the Last Specter? (a witch, red symbols, rich orphans, trying to prove magic doesn't exist...) GASP. Living in a city with seagulls everywhere? G A S P.
I'm finally at Episode 8 but I'm a little exhausted so I can't bring myself to continue, but I can't watch another media before I finally finish Umineko
Until then I guess I'm stuck just like Battler, my soul belongs to BEATORICHE until the day I'll finally be free from this VN lol
3:28 There are a lot of readers that hated a big chunk of the family. I really loved how the parents are mega millionaires, have children, run crazy businesses but in the end all the parents all act like children. They are selfish, prude, but can also loving and earnest at times. My favorite stories off all time have this character direction. Always loved it.
I remember getting into Umineko before it was actually finished and it tortured my soul. I should try to find the ending.
Finished with Umi? Cool!
*loads gun*
Now read The House in Fata Morgana 🥰
Fata is pretty boring. Mostly cateres to a specific (vocal) audience
Ain’t no way an Umineko fan is calling Fata boring
One of us! One of us!
For me, umineko feels so real
Ryū wanted to undress the real life problems in his VN
Like, yasu's backstory is just beyond genius
It talks about how "boys should" and how "girls should" behave...it's sad ..
And even that... understanding or just reading....umineko is like a never ending journey..but you reach somewhere everytime you continue travelling
Ryūkishi deserves someone like Miyazaki to create his story into an anime...
I've read the entire series of umineko in two months. Also I'm 15. Also also no I'm not fine thanks for worrying. Great video as always man!

I just finished reading earlier this month. I clocked in at about 119 hours total, and gotta say that *every single second* was completely worth it, I've never had such an emotional ride. Honestly a wonderful first experience with VNs.
Man, I feel you with slow reading. Raging Loop took me so long to complete compared to others that I could cry.

Then I find your channel and this particular video, ended very happy thinking why not play this novel already?. that video is absolutely perfect
Honestly, the series got me through my depression waaaay back in middle school. I saw the anime first, was horrible unsatisfied, went to read the manga, part 7 was still untranslated / drawn so I caved and went for the VN and ended up watching 1 hour a day every dinner. By far, still my favorite series nearly a decade later. I actually reread it around 4 more times. Once with a friend, the other 3 times just for that sweet ache of knowing all the secrets and seeing how it all connects
For real, Umineko also ruined my life. I am absolutely unable to experience anything now without asking myself, "Am I approaching this from a level of empathy that would not betray Sayo's feelings/message? The whole god damned Ushiromiya experience was toxity itself and did I or did I not truly learn a damn thing while I sat there cursing it as I turned page upon page?
I really hope we get some more Umineko stuff in 2023, or if not, later in the future. It would make me cry of excitement if another Umineko part was announced😭

I clocked in an IMPRESSIVE 154 hours on the first half >.> I clocked in 118 hours on the Steam version before I dropped it for the VASTLY SUPERIOR Umineko Project and just picked up where I left off in Episode 4. Which accounted for 36 hours of reading.

I am APPALLED at the fact that you didn't mention Deep blue Jeer or Smileless soiree. Both songs are a nice tribute to our QUEEN, Furudo Erika
EDIT: I also find it funny how literally every other adaption of Umineko is better than the anime. Even the stage play with how much it has to cut is miles better than the anime LOL
