imagine making a costume, selling it, and then it ending up in a museum. that's an example of virgilia's magic right there.
Gaap would be proud of that statement.
Virujiria-sama!
I love how the screen in the museum uses the PS3 patch
Ryukishi07 original art is too deep for the masses
@@zainiikhwan9405 and pachinko sprites suck lol
It's also using Witch Hunt's unofficial English translation, which raises _so_ many questions.
I thought I'd be excited for the new sprites. When I saw how every single person can kill with their chins, I immediately ran back to the PS3 sprites.
Kodoku Pierrot wait, how can you not like lethal weapon cnins?
And now Touhou fan art is on display in British museum at Manga Exhibiton.
I mean in all fairness what isn't on display in the British museum?
@@thishonestgrifter Actual things made by the British /s
I mean, there was an Araki exhibit at the Louvre, alongside the Rohan at the Louvre one-shot.
I went there, and I saw it! :)
WAIT WHAT?? TOUHOU?? (I'm a fan of touhou but I didn't expect it to be in a museum)
Umineko went from "cliche murder mystery visual novel" to "god fighting gods" real quick.
And I think it's so peak for that
Virgilia's dress in a museum just reinforces how elegant and iconic Virgilia's character is.
Mackerel, ohohohoho!
It's not the coolest thing I've learned today, cause that would be seeing people still talking about Umineko in this day and age, but I sure find it very interesting.
I'll talk about Umineko any day, any time, for any reason--I adore Umineko 💖
I'm still reading it... for 10 years already
Honestly, too long for me. Don't have that kinda money
Am I the only one who still listens to Ricordando Il Passato and bawls her eyes out? ;w;
@@RedBardIsCool Also, please, please keep talking about Umineko
Man, i rememeber telling a friend a few years ago that some of the Umineko might be Lolita inspired but dude called me crazy.
Gotta show him this. Thanks for this.
so i’m both a big fan of umineko and someone who’s been wearing lolita for 4-5 years and hearing this makes me really happy. like, i had a feeling some of the outfits were very much based off of lolita fashion but more on the gothic and elegant side of things and its really cool knowing someone in the community actually looked into it!
also fun fact: a chinese indie brand, while not the best quality and i’m not 100% if they were official pieces, did a collection based on the outfits for umineko. they weren’t the best looking, but they were still somewhat accurate? if you wanna look into that though, the brand is called soufflesong.
Hi!! I know this is months late, but I did some research because I was under the impression that the collection was an official collab.
The soufflesong pieces HAVE been mentioned in the official 07th Expansion twitter account (not like, an announcement though, just casually mentioning it), and soufflesong referred to them as "Licenced" so I THINK they are official...though since there hasn't been any actual announcements I could find, I'm not 100% sure either.
I also found some taobao resellers carrying the dresses, and one of them even omitted the information that the dress has anything to do with umineko. I wonder if there is a lolita out there who has bought a dress through them not knowing that it was from a vn
@@MaoUtau I'M LATE TOO HI but there was someone on tumblr who got beatrice's skirt apparently? soufflesong mixed up their order, but they ended up getting the skirt portion to the beatrice outfit.
and soufflesong did this for creamy mami too about a few months later funny enough. they released a wedding-style piece, and a piece similar to her outfit after she transforms.
also adding to this, but i remember when the collab pieces for umineko came out and people were referring to them as ita online. oh if only they knew...
The only one I knew about since before this video was Erika's dress. But I'm not surprised in THE LEAST that Ryukishi07 was browsing a gothic lolita bible for inspiration for the outfits. It makes too much sense. Makes me think of Naoko Takeuchi using haute couture for her Sailor Moon drawings or Kaori Yuki swiping all her outfits from gothic lolita or visual kei bands she currently liked. Also lol at Black Battler being the original colour palette.
And seriously, if I stumbled onto Virgillias dress while going to a museum I would feel like double checking I hadn't stepped into some weird fever dream. Sure, we've all said Umineko belongs in a museum but I've never taken it seriously. Excellent video as usual!
Also I remember that Gaap talked about a magazine that she read and where she bought her dress i think she called it Devil Pretty as a reference of angelic pretty !
I'm surprised there was an actual reason for Shannon's skirt. My entry to Umineko was through the anime, and the animators were sufficiently embarrassed by it that they did everything they could to hide it through shot compostion as long as possible. When I actually realized what it looked like in episode 4, I first thought it was some bizarre animation error and ended up going through every episode carefully before having to admit that she really is that poorly dressed.
I really just think they did it to have her tattoo displayed prominently
I'm disappointed they didn't have the beatrice painting on display
speakin of which where did that painting come from? Who drew it? It can't be ryukishi because well, *he's ryukishi* so who did?
I happened upon this comment, and remembered that I looked into this about a year ago. Unfortunately I neglected to save the answer anywhere I could find it, so I just went down the rabbit hole a second time.

Some more googling shows she's done some other official Umineko art, such as soundtrack cover images. I'm not positive but she may have done the VN cover images as well. Also I'm less certain about this but at least some sources are citing the same artist for the PS3 CGs.
"Im sure you have a lot of thoughts leave them in the comments"
I like Umineko. Me like Umineko. If Umineko = True then Happiness + 80%
Yes yes. I have lots of creative and original thoughts to leave in the comments. Did i mention I quite enjoy Umineko?
Thank you for this! I was worried the research would go up in flames when Rokkenjima died.
I'm still convinced there are many other designs to be uncovered, I'm hoping one day I could find plausible origins for everyone. (If anyone happens upon one not mentioned in the thread, please let me know! There's plenty of missing pages from the GLB archive not to mention other random J-fashion media!)
It's really very interesting to think of the chain of events that happened here, especially with Virgilia's dress. Someone designed that dress without even an inkling of Umineko's existence, and now it's been almost telephoned into a display piece in a museum to represent cosplay. It blows my mind.
Thanks again
I went to the Übersee museum a few times now and I saw that dress there! I'm from that area so I usually go there at least once a year. When I heard of that exhibit it immediately went there with a friend and was.. pretty surprised to find that dress there. I only realised who's dress it was after I was already at home again.
Yeah, I was blown away when first saw selkie's thread. Registered on Rokkenjima just to reply there, lol (and of course it died just a month after that). Actually, I've been rereading that thread just yesterday! I've posted my thoughts on this there, but, basically, I think, that Ryukishi probably should has been a little bit more sneaky with his designs. Many of them are practically unchanged from the originals. Come on, Ryuks. But I hope he has learned from this mistake and we'll see more original designs in Ciconia!
Great video, didn't know about museum thing. And, while I'm here, I loved your review of House in Fata Morgana. Bought it on Steam thanks to it (still in the beginning of first chapter, though).
Do you have any plans on making more Umineko/Higurashi/anything 07'th Expansion videos? I'd love to see more of that stuff from you!
Thanks! :D and I sure do! I ADORE Umineko!
the channel that got me into Umineko once again gives me more neat facts about the game. makes me wonder if the dress is not the only case of an anime item in a real-world museum
I got you into Umineko? :D AAAHHHH I'M SO GLAD!!
Coolest museum ever? Probably. Not cause I'm an anime fan, but because they're treating pop culture as culture, and something worthy of being considered/discussed.
Underrated comment. Take my like
Arghh now I'm mad I actually did not went to that exhibition in Bremen (I live literally two hours away and am multiple times a year in the city). Edit: ok, guess I'll be going in march.
how was it?
I love Umineko. That is a given. I love the outfits.
Now if you’ll permit me to
*Screams In fangirl*
This is cool! Seeing anything Umineko related in a museum must be a surreal experience.
The dress Beatrice's is based off is actually a dress from the Takarazuka adaption of Rose of Versailles!
Eyyyyy, just commented this before I saw your comment! 😁
"Don't say that. Teacher. Isn't boredom our natural enemy?"
lol Imagine walking around looking for some delegate historic art in Germany and stumbling on this. Should've had some of Erikas quotes for maximum confusion.
I live kind of close to Bremen and now I'm tempted to take a trip to the Übersee Museum and see if Virgilias dress is still there..
I love Lolita fashion and I knew that Bern was wearing a Goth Lolita outfit while Lambda could be wearing some kind of Decora Lolita but damn everyone has it... I love it
Umineko... is in a German museum?!? Oh my god! This is just absolutely terrific! If I ever stop by at Bremen, I'll sure take a look.
honestly I’m not surprised. As a fan of both, it’s now got to the point where Chinese brands are ripping directly from umineko and releasing “collabs”
I really like the girl that created the outfit that lambda was based around.
and about the pictures, I’ve been stopped before in lolita fashion, but more for black butler than umineko.
Brands are ripping off Umineko, too? We've come full circle. That's beautiful lol
Oh shit, I only live an hour away from that museum.
It's been years, and years, and years. I remember the agony of waiting a new episode of umineko to be launched, the endless theories...
And I'm still as in love with this series as in the begining. It's so good to see someone making umineko videos even after all this time.
Just found your channel, good stuff!
I just want to say Virgillia's outfit is the best. Good work for your video.
I was surprised to see it was posted 2 days ago. Like... Someone is still doing Umineko content ! Hell yeah. Keep the good work.
a fascinating video for sure i learned alot thank you kennedy ^_^
Anytime 💖
thank you for this video
OMAIGAH I LOVE YOU SO FRICKIN MUCH FOR DOING THIS VIDEOOOO AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Thanks for this Video I adore Umineko and all the outfits from the VN.
Love this stuff. Also makes me a bit more relieved having a visible reference isn't always bad.
So this is a comment on an old video so it's probably not going to get noticed at all but I wanted to say thank you for making me notice Umineko existed from this video and the one with how long it is, I finished it yesterday, and I loved it. And now I gotta find some way to get an excuse to cosplay Bernkastel
A video combining one of my fave games & one of my fave hobbies!
As an history of art student from Germany and also a great umineko fan, this video made me very happy. Thanks for reminding me of my love for the fandom.
Cool stuff
This is the coolest thing I've learnt today that's for sure.
20 years later...
My grandson and granddaughter saw Beatrice dress in a museum...
Granddaughter: "Granpa, that clothes looks so elegant, I wonder who did wear that in the past"
Grandson: "Elegant?! It looks ominous and it might even be possessed. I felt like if someone wear that today, she will suddenly laugh maniacally!"
Me: "It will take hundred of hours to tell you the old story of that dress. Let's go have some tea first".
*Birth of the Witch plays in my head*
Another place added to my "Places to visit before I die list". And yes, the "real rokkenjima" is one of them.
Same here men, same here!!!
Darn, I visited close to Bremen last summer and didn't know about this 😂
Guess I'll have to visit the nothern sea again this year 😏
4:08 oh my god its Nanjo!!
More on Umineko.......This is good!...watches the video.....Needs more!
For this kind of Umineko content I am on youtube. This outfits are perfect
Just finished Umineko today, i was just waiting to do it so i could watch this video without having to worry about spoilers.
And let me say, even as a guy i sure would like to have any one of those dresses, especially Lambdadelta's!
Welp, I guess I know where to travel to during my next vacations...
Think I have to plan a trip to Bremen now
My comic cover and some pages were on display in the Phoenix Art Museum for a few days
The fact that a cosplay outfit from this series is on display in a museum is one of the more magical things I've learned. Like it is a small and silly thing but honestly that's part of why it is magical. Like you can just. Go to a museum. And find a dress from Umineko.
wow that's amazing haha
I'm sure it's already been said but "IT'S PERFECTO!"
As an avid wearer of EGL fashion, I definitely saw the influence! It was exciting to experience this small section of niche interest overlap. 😄
Yo it's in Bremen?! I could actually go see it wow the more you know
Quick note! Some of the outfits you showed (particularly at 3:55) are actually stage costumes from the Takarazuka Revue (an all-female musical theater troupe based outside of Osaka) and their productions of "Rose of Versailles" and other Rococo inspirations. Those giant Marie Antoinette cupcake dresses, for example. 😁🍰 Also that white suit you scrolled past at 2:29. 👔 You can tell from the distinctive stage makeup the actresses are wearing, and the sheer detail and volume.
Was wondering about this, this is the only place on the (English) internet I've seen this mentioned so far
Ooooh my God I was in that museum and saw that dress and didn't know wtf that was. It's like really close to my home holy damn.
God it reminds me of when I went to the Danish national museum one summer and they had an exhibition on cosplay! I had no idea it was there and I spent an hour in these two rooms, one with Saint Seya cosplays and everything a cosplayer might need (the tools of the trade, if you will) and one with a Japanese photo booth, videos of cons and, I swear to god, a table full of pretty explicit doujinshi. It was a magical time
This video REALLY makes me wanna cosplay Virgilia...
Awwww, I miss the Rokkenjima forum :(
Red Bard are you gonna be at Anime Boston again this year. Your bootleg panel is one of my favorites every year
Sure am! Haven't heard back about the panel yet, but I'll def be at the con either way.
Don't know if you realized it, but the vessel for the Chiester Sisters is Maria's bunny figurine marching band set, and it also shows some pictures in the manga of them holding instruments and such.
Shadowy Prince that explains their outfits then if they’re from a set of marching band bunnies. Though WHY they’re missing a panel of their skirts in the front I’ll never know...though I joke that the furniture in this series are allergic to pants
@@ichigopockychan probably these guys like to add fan service. In the manga, Ange and Jessica don't like to wear underwear, xD
I didn't expect it to be a german one at all
Might have to go there, it's about 7 hours away lol
Quality Umineko content. A+ 10/10
Not many vn fans can say a cosplay outfit of one of their characters was in a museum.
Also, Beatrice and Evatrice’s outfits are also my faves from the game. Bernkastel too.
I will never get over the outfits of some of the characters though. Especially the ones where there are lace ruffles on the crotch. I can’t take those seriously.
What about a photo of Lily from Zombieland Saga being shown during a debate in the Houses of Parliament
What anime can do can be real fucking wild
Lily with a photoshopped gun, no less.
I used to live in Bremen in 2018... I wish I visited this exhibition :(
REALLY? UMINEKO VIDEO IN MY FEED? THANKS CZcams
My thoughts exactly! 😊
I saw two Replicas of Fates Excalibur and the Master Sword side by side in someone's Private Collection.
I went to that exhibiton!!
Nice! :D How was it?
@@RedBardIsCool It was nice!! I had a lot of fun but I wouln't call it spectacular haha
6:00 *slow reroreroing in the distance*
Found your channel from the umineko subreddit and it's good stuff! Just an offtopic question, have you played subahibi/wonderful everyday and if you have are you planning to make a video on it? Needless to say I think it's a masterpiece that makes good use of the vn medium
Currently playing Subahibi, actually! :D I'm currently in It's My Own Invention
Currently playing Subahibi, actually! :D I'm currently in It's My Own Invention
Interesting
The umineko anime was the first anime I watched oof
I still love the franchise tho
Just some trivia. Did you know that Bernkastel is a little historic city in Germany. It is pretty cute, and yeah I only found out because I was there on vacation
so lebe ich in Frankfurt und als ich dorthin ging um einen Ausflug zu machen, wird das Kleid gesehen und fangirled
Ah this trivia. My sister, whom she got me into Umineko, fascinates me that a lot of he outfits for the Witches (and some of the family members) were based on actual branded lolita outfits! I'm not into lolita, but I have been swimming into the J-Fashion culture, and even participated in one of my original decora-kei looks!
The Siesta outfits though... I try not to laugh!
Due to the slow speed of the screen scrolling across the email, for a tiny fraction of a second I just saw "Street F" and assumed that there was a whole-ass Street Fighter exhibit at this museum.
Knowing R07 got his inspiration to the real world hence the BG of his game. No wonder even the costume of his characters had inspiration to the real world.
the funniest thing to me is realizing that the picture from twitter you used that went viral happens to be someone i used to talk to so seeing their @ kinda made me double take
Anyone have any idea of which brand made the lambdadelta outfit and if so what the actual name of that outfit is.
Can’t believe anyone else read umineko, at the time I was reading it, it felt like I was the only one who knew about it.
I love how there are no dislikes. Way to go!
rip rokkenjima :'D
A lot of the dresses would be older and harder to find, so barring some prints, I don't know if an unsuspecting lolita would be caught in them at a con now. Depending on time period/location, it could be possible.
Virgilia, is that how you call her in English version? How do you call her for short?
Well, i think umineko deserve some place at museum. At least as best VN
fuck yeah! I CRAVE umineko content
lets see silky's saw
never heard of that anime b4, lol
Now, now
Remember
WHAT YOUR TRUE FORM REALLY IS....
"Say it IN RED!"
Never have I looked in a Cosplay with Great Interest
Umineko characters have some serious DRIP.
All of them.
I live in Germany lol. Now i want to visit the Übersee Museum
I want to get into Lolita, this video is great
no idea what the topic of the video is about but I have to say I goddamn love old school lolita
I got no fuckin clue what Umineko is but this is still mad interesting
i never cared about fashion, but anime was an exception, i aways liked how the characters look, and recently i noticed that i started liking fashion due to it =p
Rinrindoll!
Deeeeeeeeep breath.... BEATORICHEEEEEEEEEH!!!
