The current Darth Vader comic is my favorite piece of new canon material. Tons of interesting lore and ties to the Prequels.

Sounds great to me and will be buying them soon. What's a few other great ones?

Lord Arnold The original Vader 2015 comic, Kanan: The Last Padawan and Darth Maul are some of my favorites :)

    • @lordarnold8524
      @lordarnold8524 Před 5 lety +5

@@fixation9281 oh yea. Maul is definitely on my "to get" list! I will look for the 2015 Vader as well. Are they very expensive or easily found? I have no clue how the comic market is doing but if it's the same as the rest of the collectibles market like I'd assume, it's not too bad prices at the moment.
Kanan still running or is it finished?

I love the Knights of the old republic comic. Still one of my favorites till this day. It tells the story of Zayne Carrick, and pretty much start of with him walking in on his jedi masters killing the rest of the padawans. Not gonna say anymore than check it out! XD

Will we see him being used as a secret Sith apprentice of Vader's, another inquisitor for Luke to fight in the future in the main Star Wars comic series he is in between New Hope and Empire? That is a lot of potential stories to have good drama in them if explored. I hope they do it.

The Vader comic is the right amount of dark and graphic but not to a point it becomes super rated R. It retains the pg/pg-13 style rating feeling but could still go R in its universe if it wanted too. I feel if they started making Star Wars more adult it we will be bombarded by it being too excessively graphic or mature content stuff that just doesn't feel like its Star Wars. Everyone would try to go extreme and not try to stay in the middle like what most people want. I mean in all the films no one ever cusses actual cuss words. They use made up ones. We see dismemberment, but it isn't like over the top violent dismemberment. It tells you there is a undeclared limit to adult material until it starts feeling and looking out of place.

1:49 I thought the "Hero's Journey in reverse" was Anakin's fall to the Dark Side? He was built up to be the Hero, everyone thought he was going to be the Hero, he believed he was a Hero in his quest to save Padmé and fight in the Clone Wars, but he failed and became Darth Vader.
After watching the first two selections, I immediately thought, "is this guy going to do all of Marvel's new Star Wars comic series?" *watches* *the* *rest* *of* *the* *selections* . Oh thank the Force he at least chose one Legends graphic novel series. *watches* *SWE's* *picks* Oh thank the Force he also had a couple of Legends picks.
Not the ones that I would choose though. _Legacy_ isn't in my top 3, not even my top 5. My list of MUST READ Star Wars comics would be:
    1. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Empire_ was one of the first Star Wars comics I've ever read and was one of the first comic books I read. It's an anthology series on the various leaders and soldiers of the Empire from Moff Trachta to TK-622 to Darth Vader to my personal favorite, Lt. Janek "Tank" Sunber. These stories helped to shape my love for the Empire. Despite its title there were even Rebels stories on various heroes both known and unknown. There's various connections in this book to other stories and characters in the EU with even some on this very list.
    2. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Knights_ _of_ _the_ _Old_ _Republic_ . While _Empire_ may hold a special place in my heart for nostalgia and love of the Empire, this series is one of the best, if not _the_ _best_ written graphic novels I've ever had the pleasure to read. There's a flow to it that feels just like a book series with plot lines and characters progressing ever forward with sudden twists and turns that grip your attention and force you to turn the page! The characters are some of the most beautifully written and depicted with not a hair out of place in terms of their portrayal (I say that ironically because the artists do change). It's set in the Mandalorian Wars, 3 years before KOTOR, so there's a lot of references to the game. The story starts with Zayne Carrick, a witness to the deaths of his fellow Padawans, wrongfully pursued by the authorities under the assumption that he was the murderer. In his efforts to clear his name, he comes across the narcisstic con artist, Marn Hierogryph, the beautiful but deadly and mysterious, Jarael, the sometimes crazy, sometimes genius, Camper, and the Mandalorian renegade, Rohlan Dyre.
    3. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Clone_ Wars_ is another favorite and long-read comic series of mine. It's actually part of the _Republic_ series but it was sold under the _Clone_ _Wars_ volumes which is why I named it. Not only does this series depict a very coherent, very brutal depiction of the Clone Wars, but it also has some of the best character progression. You want to know why characters such as Aayla Secura, Asajj Ventress, Durge, and Quinlan Vos got so popular? It was because of this (and _Republic_ and the miniseries). You know the battles of Kamino, Boz Pity, and Saleucami that were shown in TCW and referenced in ROTS? They were first depicted here. Like _Empire_ there's a lot of characters and backstories that were either referenced or depicted in these volumes.
    4. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Rebellion_ was a continuation of some of the plot-lines in _Empire_ particularly of the relationship of Janek Sunber and Luke Skywalker. Despite being 16 issues, it's incredibly strong storytelling and the artwork reflects this with its brutal depictions of battles and close-quarters fighting. A lot of adult themes stand out in this particular series that really got my attention when I was a kid.
    5. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Union_ was one of the recent Star Wars comics that I read having only just learned about it earlier this year. Despite it being only 4 issues it's story really is one of the best for being so relatable: that of the wedding between Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade. Having felt dejected from Luke's portrayal in TLJ, this arc really brought a smile to my face as it is the first time that I've seen Luke genuinely happy. It pulls at my heartstrings to see Luke smile, to have bar fights with his friends, seeing him and Mara together, and experience a moment of true love in Star Wars after having been so disappointed from TLJ. Also it's a wedding and everyone loves wedding stories.
    6. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Republic_ was one of the longest running Star Wars series that I've ever read from its first issue starting before TPM and going to after ROTS. It's 83 issues cover a wide range of characters, events, and battles. No other Star Wars series has come close to being as thorough or as wide-ranging as this series (although if the Marvel Star Wars series continues for another 4 or 5 years, it could top it for being the longest running Star Wars series). Name any character from the films and he/she/it probably had its first backstory in this series.
    7. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Dark_ _Times_ was a continuation of the _Republic_ storylines on the various Jedi who escaped Order 66. Some of them would join up with crews like Caleb Dume would later and avoid the Empire and Darth Vader who pursued them. Others would try to continue the Jedi Order but in secret. This is another one of the series that had a lot of adult themes scattered throughout including child slavery, eating of sentient beings, cold-blooded murder, sexual tones, and even betrayal (it's after Order 66, so there's a lot of that going around). The main character in that series, Dass Jennir, was even compared to Legolas by readers with his long, blonde hair and green outfight.
    8. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Legacy_ is pretty much everything that Jawiin said and more. I had first heard about it from a _Star_ _Wars_ Insider_ and it's character profiles were intriguing. Then I read the comic and was blown away by the stories and the artwork. The only reason that it's low on this list is because it's been a long time since I last read it and I would very much like to go back to it. Perhaps in the future it can go higher on the scale.
    9. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _Mara_ _Jade_ : _By_ _the_ _Emperor's_ _Hand_ was a 6 issue short series written by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole, two of my favorite Legends novel writers. It details the falling of Mara Jade from the Empire after her failure to kill Luke Skywalker at Jabba's Palace and the Emperor's death. Unlike most Star Wars issues, this is very much a spy thriller which is one of the things that I love about Mara Jade. While her history has always been hinted and referenced at in pieces in the novels, this was the one of the first ones that illuminated that part of her life before she met Luke.
    10. Dark Horse's _Star_ _Wars_ _2013_ was one of the final Star Wars comic series that was printed by the comic book company before Marvel. Despite only 20 issues in its run, each of its arcs felt impactful with characters and artwork that stood out from the crowd. Everything was sleek, everything was shiny, everything felt crisp coming off of the page which was a step away from all of the dark and grittiness that Dark Horse was most known for in the past. If I were to compare the first 20 issues of Marvel's current run with this one, Dark Horse wins. It's stories are very grounded and are focused on the characters, their relationships, and progression rather than bombastic plots, crossover events, and adventure after adventure.
One of the things that I noticed when making this list was just how much variety that Dark Horse put into their product. They could do dark and gritty but also peaceful and happy. They could depict magnificent and climatic battles but also calm, quiet moments. Characters didn't just hop from one adventure to another but also relaxed and talked. It's why I love Dark Horse's Star Wars more than Marvel's; they knew how to balance story with characters and the art blended perfectly with them.

In canon, anything by Gillen or Soule. Jason Aaron is better at Marvel Heroes, especially THOR.
