      So you people remember to post this match, while having carefully removed Nadal's win over Djokovic @Montreal, the very year. Monte Carlo is just round the corner can't be an excuse, because that match has been missing for last 8 years. Such bias in favour of an unvacinnated jerk never fails to amaze. Thats poor from ATP.

    I am a lifelong Nadal fan and will continue to be. But, I have replayed that primal roar at the end from Djokovic many times over and it still remains awesome.

      @@beng4186 lol no it isn't, it's a release of emotions. Djokovic choked away a match to Berdych at Rome a couple of weeks after this match and he was very graceful in defeat. I like it when Nadal does those extended grunts as well. They just feel so satisfying.

    Amazing level of tennis from both guys. Djokovic is clearly one of few (the best) players that have the game to beat Nadal on clay. Novak is the guy that have beaten Nadal most on clay and in total.

      I would agree on a 99.9% level, though I think the Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Courier, Agassi, Cash , Chang Stich & a few others had enormous depth; my Question is do u think the Nadal, Novak, Fed era was a bit "light" on parity or is it a case of 3 guys dominating a really good group of rivals, that included Murray, Nalbandian , Hewitt, Roddick ? I tend 2 think there was a little less depth: what's your viewpoint ?

      @@csracingreport2024 I think previous era was stronger in terms of competition, there has been more champion players to face each other, Lendl, Sampras, McEnroe, Agassi, Becker, Wilander, Edberg, Courier, Chang, Muster (and some more), they all played in the same era and all of them were champions. So if anyone of them missed a tournament or slam there were others as tough to beat if you wanted to win. In era of the big three it was only three, the super tough three tough.

    Novak, Rafa and Roger are legends and geniuses! No words to describe what they have done for the sport... Every time they face each other on a court there is something different, of another level, as if their encounter emanates a kind of aura. So much light of talent, charisma and athleticism that you can almost see the sparks of electricity their battles generate.

      Your Point hard to imagine higher quality tennis "post BORG" than Sampras, Agassi, Lendl
      Courier. Wilander Becker, & so on; It would have been interesting how Matching up Big 3,
      along w/SAFIN, Murray, Wawrinka w/ the previous legends would have turned out, including
      the good Clay Courters like Muster, Kuerten, & Brugeria, along w/ the aforementioned Lendl
      Wilander & Courier, who won 8 F. Opens between them. Great Video/ Tenis match; Wonderful to Watch

      @@csracingreport2024 Rivalries are the most important driving force of any sport. Great rivals push each other to new heights, to evolution. In this sense, we could say that the Big 3 is a much more important "entity" so to speak, than Rafa, Roger and Novak considered alone.
      We could also say that they are 3 Goats in their respective most notable qualities. No one will ever play such a beautiful tennis as Federer, he is the Goat of tennis as an art. Nadal is the Goat of clay, the fiercest competitor. And Djokovic the Goat of mental strength, endurance, tactics and why not, records as well.

      success on Hard & Clay; Never quite got the Serve to "Electric" status, but increased his
      Speed; To Your point Roger had the whole array if Shots; It's Unknown as to why
      he decreased his Serve & Volley / Net play after his first Major win. Maybe he thought
      Tactically it was More Taxing to Net Rush and/ or there was a physical issue that would prevent
      him from having a mostly Injury-Free career; NOVAK is a Video Game Super=Hero w/ Elastic powers,
      and to further another of Your Points, his Mental Game made the difference when beating GAEL MONFILS
      @ the French when they were Top Talents exiting the Juniors, and long-term to become the Legend
      he is. Impressive to build a Resume he has vs the likes of Nadal & Federer

      Monfils is playing absolute amazing tennis lately, as well as Dimitrov, such great talents. Besides the Big 3, I enjoy a lot watching veterans like them, Wawrinka and Murray... Even if they do not go far in a tournament, always a treat to watch.
      Let us just hope Sinner, Alcaraz and some other "younglings" are able carry the torch of the older 3 great "Jedis"!! 👊

      NADAL owned MC, and had a good Rome Resume & stellar Barcelona & Madrid record;
      Roger would have bagged more French Opens in Previous Eras, "Post BORG", w/ o Nadal around,
      though his hands, along w/ Eafa & Novak's if you place them in the 80's/ 90's would have been Full,
      facing LENDL, Wilander, COURIER, Muster, KUERTEN, Brugeria, and to some extent, AGASSI, who Won 1,
      Lost 2 Finals, and a Semi to WILANDER

      @@markreadin7124 Dude. Its the overall HTH that matters not surface or tournament particular stage HTH. Nonetheless Novaks has beaten Rafa everwhere including twice in Roland Garros. Rafa hasnt never beaten Novak on Aussie Courts, Indoor courts , geez even hard courts since a decade now.

      @mm43501 He's the youngest player to reach a grand slam quarter final since Chang in 1990. Beating a world no. 3 Tsitsipas in a fifth-set tie break in the process. That's not nothing. He's already really close to being top 10 which will mean much more favourable draws at grand slams.
      As you say the big 3 are only getting older and his growth the last few months has been exponential. It's not a matter of if he will overtake but when. I'd guess sooner than you think.

      @@josb2574 One rivalry is not better than another only because two players have faced each other more times and for longer matches than two other players, it doesn't make sense. I much prefer the opposition of style (one handed backhand and two handed backhand, right-handed and left-handed, clay court player and fast surface player...) of Roger and Rafa than the long exchanges from the baseline between Novak and Rafa (although I love seeing them play). Federer Nadal, whether we like it or not, will remain as the greatest rivalry in the history of tennis (even more incredible than Sampras Agassi, Borg McEnroe, Nadal Djokovic...). Miami 2005 final, Rome 2006 final, Wimbledon 2007 final, Wimbledon 2008 final, Australian Open 2009 final, Roland Garros 2011 final, Australian Open 2017 final...
      Incredible rivalry.

      @@flaviencrozier the only problem with that rivalry is that Nadal has dominated Federer. Only old Federer was able to beat Nadal constantly and that's because he avoided him on clay. The score is too one sided to be the best rivalry. Nadal was beating him on clay and outdoor hard courts and has 10-2 record in majors. These two challenged each other on all surfaces

    You watch this version of Djokovic and Alcaraz play. They have very similar games, contrary to the popular opinion that Alcaraz plays like Rafa.

    Almost bagelled Rafa on his fav surface but choked .... clearly Nole dominated this match and took the confidence in RG that year ...was up a break in the deciding set and that netcord changed the whole momentum towards Rafa.....If anyone Rafa fears on clay its Nole.

    Novak is such a beast on clay. He's beaten Nadal multiple times on Clay, the best is obviously 2021 FO but the one I remember most was the 2015 drubbing of Nadal at the FO...and this is just clay. Novak dominates on grass and hard courts. that's why he will go down as the GOAT.

      I disagree his best is 2021 FO, sure the highest profile victory as it’s semi in a slam but it wasn’t as high quality as some other ones plus it was against an injured Rafa. This was a better match imo

      @@funnyduck4568 Nadal wasnt injured. He almost bagelled Novak in first set lol. Rafa's game is heavily depending on physical game. It was a battle of 4h and if you injure yourself playing like Nadal that is not excuse anymore. Novak would beat him this way or another

    2008 hamburg was a close match,2009 monte Carlo and 2009 madrid was epic but still Nole choked somehow ....2011 Peak Nole destroyed Rafa In Madrid and Rome....clearly Rafa was lucky not to face Nole that year at RG...2012 RG also Nole lost first 2 sets but then won 8 consecutive games and was a break up in the 4th set and had the momentum but rain saved Rafa and the next day Rafa triumphed...in 2013 Nole beat a healthy Rafa at monte Carlo and was unlucky at RG with netcord ....but still some Rafa fans say Nole can beat only injured Rafa on clay

      Pre-2011 Nole was still suffering from his untreaten coeliac disease, he always went breathless middle-match in a lot of his games... after that, when he treated his disease in 2011 we all know what happened. I would've loved Nole to be healthy since he got in the tour (2004), his now more than incredible career would maybe be still brighter.

    Having watched tennis in 80s 90s and 00s with amateurs ( well they are compared to big 3) fumbling balls around just to see what happens and hoping for a miracle. And then you watch Djokovic playing chess. but not only in one game, or one championship, but whole season. It is just remarkable. I don't think you can see better 'chess' game from individual sport player.
