  • Willemijn Verkaik performs a beautifully simplistic Defying Gravity in London, on June 27th, 2017. Contains her first 2017 London performance in a while without her signature "sky" riff, lots of power and Willemijn at her purest and most vocally beautiful.

I swear I'll fight y'all over this... the London orchestra sounds a million times better than Broadway. Why does the London orchestra sound like an orchestra at a Josh Groban arena concert and Broadway sounds like they still warming up mid performance? Also, Willemijn is hands down my all time favorite Elphaba.

I couldn't agree more!!! I feel like part of it is the musicians in the Broadway orchestra... it's sounded poorly for at least the past five years or so, the last time I really remember it sounding good was around 2011-12.

Henry Wilkinson I guess i haven't really noticed. How has the broadway orchestra devolved over the last few years?

Cameron Corcoran The sound just isn't as powerful anymore. For example, the final note in Defying Gravity is so breathtaking in this video, and others from the West End production. The Broadway orchestra sounds almost like the tour, trust me I've heard both. The difference is the tour has different musicians each city, Broadway doesn't.

London has the best everything tbh - lighting, sound, orchestrations and actors (Rachel!!)
