- Willemijn Verkaik performs potentially her best ever Defying Gravity in London, on March 25th, 2017. Contains several vocal gems including her now iconic "sky" and high F riffs, and even more impressively, a plethora of never before seen riffs including the Jacqueline Hughes style “find me”, her first (ever?) extended look note, an original “from me” riff, a beautiful Jennifer DiNoia inspired first bring me down, and what can only be described as sheer perfection on her end note. Madame Morrible is Sue Kelvin, Glinda is Suzie Mathers.

Sarah Michelle Gilligan I also think the producers are going to look to Lea Michele to play elphaba because I mean she can sing and act! She's sung defying gravity before and killed it. I would like to see her play elphaba, I don't know if it's rude or not haha but I already picture her with the green makeup and black cloak.

I know everyone loves Idina cause she is the original and I always see Rachel Tucker get a lot of praise, but Willemijn is my absolute FAVORITE Elphaba!!! Her voice is just gorgeous and so out of this world!!!!

I would've started crying as soon as I heard the "So if you care to find me..." lol. I also love how the audience remains silent for a bit after the final riff, as if they were trying to understand what had happened or if it truly had been real. xD She's just mind blowing and it's amazing how she still slays this whole OST after so many years. Just...wow. I have no words to express how talented Willemijn is.
"I hope you're happy in the end" is the best I've heard!

Both the musical director and assistant musical director were off so it was one of the orchestra conducting, so maybe she was taking advantage of having nobody to tell her off and going all out? :P
Elphaba Lives yesss that might be it !!! they usually shout at them when they riff and maybe the music conductor might have been like do what you want when i'm not here or maybe another music director has told them to go all the way and show all that they coukd do
If she sounds this amazing now, I cant even imagine what her last will sound like!

This is pretty damn incredible. I don't think anything will ever beat her 2014 Olivier performance for me, but this is my new favourite on-stage performance!
(Although a small part of me did miss her 'is or was' riff she's being doing in this run)
I missed that riff too! But when she goes insane on just about every other line, it's hard to begrudge her one riff. I agree her 2014 Olivier Awards performance was something really special, especially considering she'd been off the entire previous week suffering with her back. Go Willemijn!

Wafi Habib it was Kerry's last show. But last saturday she did it as well.
It was Kerry Enright's last show in the ensemble, but because Kerry is 8+ months pregnant, she doesn't perform in act 1 anyway. At stage door someone asked her about her riffs and she said sometimes it just feels right to go for it, and yesterday was one of those times.
What is she doing in the emsemble at 8 months pregnant? Wow!

My personal favorite Elphie in terms of character is Jackie Burns, but the best one in terms of vocals is Willemijn Verkaik! She SLAYS this song!
EDIT: In terms of character, my favorite is now Lissa deGuzman. I saw her live and she was phenomenal! Willemihn is still objectively the best in terms of vocals though.
I saw her Monday 19th June and she was incredible! I just saw her this weekend at West End live as well - twice in a week!!!!!! I've just booked for her last show on July 22nd - she's gonna rock it.
God I hope she comes back SOMEWHERE, I don't even care where, I will travel the fucking world to see her live in Wicked.

I’ve heard sooo many versions trying to find the perfect one! This is defs my top favourite Defying Gravity! Those riffs!!! Ahhh, goosebumps!!!
For me its her and Jessica Vosk. Jessica Vosk sings it so perfectly, i dont know which one is better so we just have to say, theyre both the best. I like some of the ways Willemijn's chose to do some of the lines at the end, really elevates the performance.
I remember meeting Willemijn on my 21st birthday (I went to see Wicked on Broadway that day) and she was insanely nice! I was so moved by her performance that I even got a tattoo to remember the occasion two months later. (I meant to get the tattoo on the day of her last performance in May, but wires were crossed and I got the tattoo a week later. 😅)

Haha I was trying to think of an Elphaba that does a similar riff and Jacqueline Hughes was the main contender ;) Rachel Tucker's has too few parts to it to be the same style as Willemijn's :P
