🇬🇧 I Visited An ABANDONED Estate In LONDON!

- Welcome back to the channel, today i am at the Notorious Aylesbury Estate in south east London. There are Major problems with the physical buildings on the estate and the poor perception of estates in Britain as a whole have led to the Aylesbury Estate gaining the title of "one of the most notorious estates in the United Kingdom" It has often been called the largest public housing estate in Europe, although this is difficult to verify with any accuracy. The estate has featured in many television shows including The Bill, Spooks, and from 2004-15 was featured in a Channel 4 ident. On 27 September 2005, the London Borough of Southwark decided that rather than spend £350 million updating the estate to basic living standards, it would order its demolition and replace the dwellings with modern houses controlled by a housing association, More than 15 years later it still stands.
I remember going in the heygate when it was abandoned, I remember it when people were still living in it. So much has changed in London. I remember the Aylesbury well

At 1:42 where you’re stood is right outside my grandmas house, use to live there till 2004 till we moved out to a different block

It's a shame the UK do not really refurbish estates like this, we are losing more and more of our brutalist style architecture to very bland and generic looking new builds that are also very unaffordable and poorly built. This is a good video btw
I agree everything now just looks the same and it’s very bland, what happened to being unique. You’d think for the amount of money homes are going for now in London they’d be built to last.
@@VideoRami that part they aren't built to last like older buildings, these brutalist style building are unique looking and built to last. Luxury apartments are also a lot smaller, people pay so much money for smaller living spaces.

Grahame park estate, Edgware is a pretty interesting place.
I used to live north west London and was an engineer on the road working nw and inner city London.
I’ve been recommended Grahame park estate a couple times now, need to check it out 👍🏼
@@VideoRami the surrounding areas are pretty nice, and some of the new builds are stunning. But at the heart of the estate it’s an experience. One of the murders that happened there bro was on 24hours in police custody.
That’s what I was afraid of going there and it just being new builds 😂 but will definitely check it out

Why is it dangerous if it’s a ghost house ?
Many reasons, abandoned buildings are fire hazards, breeding ground for vermin/wildlife and pests, the structure may be weaker/unstable as it’s been left for a while, criminal activity and anti-social behaviour also like you said asbestos/harmful chemicals, squatters.

There’s always a risk of that happening but I wouldn’t say I worry about it, I try to be as cautious as possible when making these type of videos
