A Japanese soldier has the best description of what a full force amphibious landing from the USA looks like “ like thousands of tiny spiders gliding over the beaches and reefs we knew the gods of death have come “

@@DonaldLacey-mc3jpever heard of a period or a comma? Lol
I believe that was the invasion of Tarawa.
I remember a memoir from a US Army soldier who fought on D-Day and then pushed inland. He said that the German's were sending kids to fight and they were capturing them and sending them back to the German's because they were too young to take as prisoners.
My grandpa was Irish who was a mechanic in Britain army. Throughout majority of his time in the army he was just a mechanic, cars, trucks, tanks and etc. D-day was the only battle he fought in which was for a short time. He drove a tanks which was blown up by Germans, he only surviver of the tank crew. His body was full of shrapnel and he needed walkers, cain and wheel chair to get around until he died from cancer in 1989.
Tough man.
The battle of Caen. The Brits and Canadians were fighting all the Elite heavy SS Panzer divisions around Caen and beyond. 8 elite SS Panzer divisions, 3 Heavy Tank Battalions, and 7 Infantry Divisions at Caen alone.
The most important day of combat in modern history
for the Allies yes
maybe, or the battle for England, but the war was lost in Russia.
@@arnodobler1096 Tbf he says day, there wasn't really a particular day to match, campaign however then it's all russia
Without the west USSR would've lost.
I think we sometimes forget that many soldiers " on the other side " were just boys that no hate, no ideology and most importantly NO CHOICE. Yes they were the enemy, but still human beings. As in most wars throughout history..the German defenders and American/British/Canadian attackers were just farm boys that had probably never even left their hometowns before this. I cannot imagine me at 19 or 20 stepping off that landing craft.... or being in German bunkers seeing wave after wave.... God I wish the world doesn't repeat another nightmare like that.
A funny fact, aftermath of the invasion, americans saw who they thought was a japanese fighting for the germans. Turned out to be a korean. He had been forced to fight for japan. He was captured by russians. Then he was captured by the germans. He didn't have any luck...
Imagine being a Wehrmacht scout, ordered to scout one of the beaches for reconnaissance. You were picked because you took English while in school, and your NCO wants to know what their logistics are.
You managed to sneak up to their lines, and you're baffled. 10s of thousands of troops, supplies so plentiful they're sharing amongst each other in a jovial manner. Then the sentence you hear kills what little morale you had: You overhear one of the young men bring over a freshly baked cake from thier mother....1000s of kilometers from home while you couldn't even get basic food and water being mere hundreds kilometers away from home.
Yo man, been with you since 1k. Keep it up bro. I enjoy your stuff. Thank you for the great videos marine
By '44 the Hawker Typhoon was one of the most lethal anti-tank, ground attack aircraft that the Allies flew. Should look it up
Enjoy your work. Been a subscriber for years.
I was on Saipan back in the 80's having a Maitai at a beautiful hotel overlooking a beautiful beach that my father stormed ashore in WW2. How things change.
One of the books I read about WW2 was Panzer Commander, The Memoirs of Colonel Hans Von Luck. He commanded the 7th and 21st Panzer Division's under Rommel. It's been a long time since I read it, but it was a good read from an interesting perspective. He was awarded a Gold German Cross and a Knight's Cross. He was at D-Day among many other major battles.
As always, I appreciate your knowledge and perspective. Take care.
Meanwhile, the Americans had ice cream ships for the troops in WWII.
Well, almost all of those drops were scattered all over the place. Which in fairness, was one of the things that made that part so much more effective.
Just reminds me of that scene from "The Longest Day" where you see the invasion force coming out of the night from the German perspective.
Great videos and yall are outstanding soldiers. Served with the Queens finest for a couple months back in 2010 before they rotated out
heyy great video ryan! always good to see some armchair historian reactions! although this video is one of his self declared outdated videos on the topic, theres also a newer more up to date ''d-day from the german perspective'' but also stalingrad which would be sick if you'd check it out.
Ryan I have arguments often about the tank and is it still viable with drone warfare being used to such huge success!, but I always say a tank is a beast if apart of a land and air operation, and air superiority is huge when you want to march a long line of tanks towards your enemy like russia did !. So the bradley is looking good because of the non exsistant air support
I stormed Omaha with the Ranger Regiment!
LMK IF YOU WANT AN INTERVIEW !
( LOVE YOUR CONTENT YOUNG MARINE )
I AM 102 YEARS OLD .. MY GRANDSON

Ryan, check out this video. It's a really good one. "US Army Sgt gives iraqi police a telling off-This is awesome"
I have missed your videos.
He just released a video about the Toyota war that happened in Chad. I think you would really love that, and I would love to see a reaction video.
Like Japan, you have to have empathy, so many people died for simply following orders
It's funny how only historians and high command staff say "with great effect" about weapon systems, but not the soldiers there seeing the effect...
Not much that's "great" about the effect of killing another person, especially when suffocating/burning to death, even when enemies.
Canada!! Juno beach!!
Good video
"Looftwaffer"? 😂
Woolly Peat phosphorus is nasty
Have you seen Air Defender 2023 by WELT documentary?
When I visited Normandy I was at Omaha Beach for low tide (the actual invasion was at low tide). I walked out to the waterline, turned around and saw the hundreds of yards/meters between my location and the defenses. It was a miracle we succeeded at Omaha beach.
I wonder how many Germans shat their pants when dawn arrived?
👍😎😎😎👍
very interesting! more over from russian perspective, in current situation
please, allow me to translate this to russian for educational non profit purposes and post on my cannel.
thanks in advance
Why don't you talk about sas training and exercises
The REAL question…what were the soldiers pronouns?!
The lads must stick together.
My great grandpa was in France.
He never cried or had difficulty with the fighting. The only thing that made him cry was when they had to eat their horses. Because they got nothing else.
Have you watched Jeremy Clarkson. The greatest raid of all documentary?
If not I would highly recommend it 😉
