I saw that, that's the most intense race. the last closest finish was the 2007 Daytona 500.
I love the pure excitement Mike Joy had there. This race is gonna go down simply as a classic nascar race, with an amazing finish!
Glad I was off for once to be able to catch the whole Daytona 500, first time in years. That finish was incredible, I keep hitting the replay button haha. And I completely agree with that other comment, the FOX booth was absolutely great yesterday. They seemed fired up from pre-race coverage, and I personally thought Jeff Gordon did an excellent job as a commentator. And also he is my favorite driver as I grew up watching and rooting for him so that helped too. Darrell's scream at the finish too has me cracking up !
Jeff truly retired at the right time. All week long he sounds like he was having a blast, not only as a commentator, but as a fan.

My dad won raffle tickets to race at Michigan int'l speedway and it was sponsored by Fedex. We were supporting Denny Hamlin and he won by nearly an entire lap. We were watching this race on TV and it was so intense
I couldn't watch this race because I had to work. This was the first Daytona 500 I couldn't watch in my life. Denny Hamlin happens to be my favorite driver. I knew he was going to win because of course I couldn't watch. I checked my phone at the end of the race and as soon as I did my dad texted me saying that Hamlin won in the closest finish ever in Daytona 500 history making an incredible move. I was so excited at work everyone thought I was crazy. GO HAMLIN!!! GO JGR!!!

That's how they get some downforce. It's the grass that tears up the front of the car. Notice how the splitter doesn't destroy the car when they're racing.

This is similar to the 2007 finish. Matt Kenseth pushed Kevin Harvick to the lead from the outside lane and edged Mark Martin out. 2016 Harvick pushed Hamlin to the lead from the outside and edged out Martin Truex
i don't know if any other drivers suffered more heartbreaking losses throughout their careers. would have been well deserved either way. hell of a finish, and here's to a strong season for the 11 team

Hate to say it, but This is why Hamlin is a Daytona 500 winner and Mark Martin isnt. In 2007, mark martin should have used the sheetmetal against Harvick. It's the Daytona 500, this is what you live for. And truex and hamlin didn't hold back. They used up the sheetmetal and paint and gave it there all. Racing doesnt get better than this.

That blocking move Matt Kenseth did on Denny looks very similar to a move he did at a race last year but i can't seem to know where that race was at but i do know the name of track starts with a K and ends with an S. Matt should've stayed at the bottom. Denny was losing his run right before Matt started to move up, and anyway, he didn't have any help. If he stayed to the bottom he could have Denny cleared off turn 4, and then if Denny made another run he could block him then.

One of the few reasons Hamlin won was because Truex backed up the bottom trying to get the run on Matt. Surprised Matt didn't wreck Denny when he was sliding down off the wall. Okay race. Great finish. Sucks for Chase, though.

Or.. Just add the ride height rule again and they'll never have to deal with the splitters digging in, they even said it during the broadcast that they never had this problem in the past and there had splitters for a long time. IMO these cars would look alot better if they weren't so close to the ground
