I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Thanks for another Snowblower Surging video. My 10 year Ariens surges lots, but have been able to get by keeping the choke open on #1. I will try this fix as weather is now getting warmer here in NY. Sure beats paying like $230 plus a pickup and dropoff charge. You're the best small engine mechanic on CZcams. Donyboy, you da man! I just fixed a surging snow blower that I said I’d look at for a friend of mine. After unsiezing the wheels from the shafts to fix flat tires that were off the beads, draining and cleaning a water and dirt contaminated tank and carb bowl, I filled the tank and it fired up right away but, you guessed it, it surged like crazy. Here we go, I thought. This is going to take hours and then I thought Google, and there you were! Pulled the jet and the orifice was completely blocked, cleaned it with an appropriately sized torch tip cleaner and it now runs and idles as smoothly as can be, Thanks a bunch. From Thunder Bay, I owe you a beer or 2.

Just did this to a brand new snow blower that sat for 3 years. I am glad you do these videos. Not for me, I know this stuff by heart now. I carry a micro drill bit set in my service box for home repairs because I know I will have to do that with these new ones. People need to be told not to use too big a bit or they risk ruining the jet. I found its best to start with the smallest bit possible. 9 times out of 10, the jet is plugged. From there, go to progressively larger bits but not force them. As you said, those bits can break easily. I generally use a hand drill, not a power drill. A hobby drill works best. I always try the engine between bits to see if the idle improves. When the surging goes away, then stop. My next job is a surging 16 hp Kohler garden tractor with a snow blower attachment.

Huayi carburetor in most of these Chonda engines (LCT, Loncin, Powermore, etc.). I cleaned Huayi carburetors on five different snowblowers last week with 9” of snow in southwestern Missouri. Main jet and fuel/air (black plastic one you drilled out), and emulsion tubes all blocked on every one of them. Unfortunately no practical room for fuel shut off valve, which would solve most of the fuel issues.

Since it I getting close to snowblower season I guess I will just reattach the shield and use the choak to smooth out the motor.

Hey donyboy73. Had surging after two minutes on Honda snowblower than dies. My Honda dealer said it’s common in USA for this to happen to Honda power equipment do this because when the charcoal gas cap gets saturated from overfilling or tipping the snowblower on front (like I did) it ruined the gas cap and says it’s like putting a finger over a straw and the engine won’t bring gas to carburetor anymore. I wonder if Canada has the same charcoal gas caps like this. He said they started doing this in 2013 - present to all Honda power equipment. My problem was solved, after buying a new gas cap

Great information. So adding carb cleaner to gas on a regular basis won't keep this particular jet clean?

I always screw IN the idle screw and count the turns until it bottoms out and then when I replace it, I screw it all the way in and then count the turns from the bottom back out to where it was before.

@@donyboy73 Hi Dony, I am going to be ordering one of these kits as I need the handle as well as the bit. Is there somewhere else that you can order just a bunch of the .35mm bits? (I hope I did my math right as you mention 13/1000 or 15/1000 and that is the closest size after converting)

Have you ever seen one of those plastic jets without the brass insert if so could you do the same thing with the plastic inside?
