    Honestly, this is the same concept as what trucks used to be and what they still should be. Basic, simple, cheap and useful. This fad of “luxury trucks” is stupid and wasteful. Trucks are only meant for one thing: work. This Maverick would be perfect for that, and it’s at a price that is achievable for many. Can’t say that for basically any other truck available in the US.

    • @jayhiggins5239

      Not only are those luxury trucks stupid and wasteful, they're also dangerous! Many of the newer trucks I see on the road have a hood height that's taller than me, and I'm 5'11''! If I get hit by that thing as a pedestrian, I'm basically dead, and since they are heavy they also put more wear and tear on the roads and are more deadly in crashes from their huge momentum. This Maverick actually brings it back to how trucks used to be, not the oversized monster trucks they are today that're dangerous for everyone except the driver.

    I recently picked up an XL 2.0 non hybrid and I love it. The fact that it does not have all of the nanny features that most modern vehicles come with is a plus in my book. It's a vehicle that you get in and go. The "sharp" edges of the door handle is not a thing that I noticed. No push button start is one less thing to go wrong. The placement of the cup holder is just different from what you are used to. Over time it will become familiar. The fact that you are comparing the amenities to that of a vehicle that is four or five times the cost is laughable. It seemed that you liked the Maverick, but reluctantly so.

      Go with a hybrid man all electric strains the rare earth materials and the battery costs a ton to replace so I'd you go with a hybrid when it comes time to get a new battery it's a smaller one that's more affordable. Then then you get the advantage of the electric motor taking lots of the energy consumption when the vehicle first starts moving and usually sucks the most gas. Then you get the gas engine for the high fuel economy when the vehicle is already moving. Plus then you can fill it up anywhere and you're not stuck at a charging station or installing plugs into your house ect

Also, this still has more space in the back than the NEW Ranger which is a much bigger truck! This is a FANTASTIC truck. "Just" injection-molded door panels? Yes! PLEASE! THIS is what people want in a TRUCK. Something that isnt just low cost, but DURABLE. Easy to keep clean and you dont mind if it does gets dirty. Even the "pro" grade F150 Lightning is IMO way too fancy and way too big. THIS is perfect for SO many people. A TRUE light duty truck like they used to make with great feul economy and the best possible sticker price. The only dissappointnent is that Ford cant seem to make enough of them!
    BTW: the cubby beside the screen was purposefully left there so people could make their own things to put in there. Ford has plans for 3D printed accessories and folks can design their own as well. This truck is filled with details like that purposefully put in place for the Maker community. Like a panel in the back that could be modded for an air compressor or lights, or all kinds of things. It is a brilliant design and approach to design, bringing the community along in the process.

Their guess is that Thunder is a plug-in hybrid. So better all-electric range, but not full electric. Its probable that a fully electric Maverick just wouldnt have very good range and would be too expensive for US market to really consider worth it. Apparently Maverick Lightning is trademarked in Europe, and that makes sense because European roads are smaller and there are fewer EV trucks available there, so folks may be willing to pay more for even a short range EV truck in Europe.

      It is unlikely that a fully electric Maverick will be offered in this generation. The current Maverick is based on the C2 platform that it shares with the Escape and Bronco Sport. Its floor pan is stamped to accept a PHEV-sized battery (which exists in the Escape line), but a battery sized for 200+ miles range will require extensive re-engineering. The necessary tech for that will have to wait until the new Ford EV utility vehicle platform, which won't be available until 2026, at earliest. All that said, a PHEV Maverick is very likely in 2024 and will be an immediate success. I just hope it comes with at least 40 miles of electric range and 6.6 kW or faster charging.

      Unfortunately an EV version would likely be too expensive and have too short of a range for most Americans. It is rumored that it will become a plugin hybrid... so longer all-electric range than this, and may come to Europe as an EV... but remember in Europe they have smaller roads and fewer truck options so will gladly pay more than us for a limited range EV truck.

    Great review. But there is much not covered that made it seem less than it really is. It's built for utility mods. There are power hookups in the bed. Upscale models offer more. The look mirrors other Ford pickups. It will haul 1400 pounds, just shy of a 3/4 ton. For that price it offers a lot and that is why it's winning awards and Ford quit taking orders last January because of the backlog.

  • @Nphen
    @Nphen Před rokem

    I'm glad to see a review of this truck. Reading about them made me interested to see how they hold up for rear passengers & cargo. The bed actually looks like sheets of plywood will sit at a better angle against the tailgate than a longer bed. Sheets will be a steeper angle, pointing up more than out over the tailgate, with less unsupported length in the middle. It's good for Ford to have this small hybrid until they can get more battery supply. This size & mileage will stay competitive for years. I see why Ford isn't rushing the electric version. Vans & F150's are more important for limited battery supply.

      Probably not because there would be a years long wait, LOL! We waited 14 months for our Maverick.

    Went to a local Ford dealership that is NOT FORD AUTONATION but is in the Corpus Christi Texas area. They wanted me to buy a markup $11k for a suggested $31k for a Ford MAVERICK XLT AWD.
    Not a buyer at those markups. Then he wanted me to look at a Ford Bronco Sport for $34k with 3 cylinders. WOW 😂😅
