  • Just how fast is the M1 MacBook Air? In this video I render the exact same video using Camtasia Studio on both the M1 MacBook Air any my Intel i5 Laptop. The results are surprising!

    I just verified with Techsmith that the Mac version of Camtasia Studio 2021 is M1 native.

    I have the same “Impressive” rendering time with my M1 Mac-Mini (as expected). But guess what? I love the editing flow on the Windows Version of Camtasia by a long shot. My editing style at work is like 500% faster using the Windows version because it auto generates “key frame animations” in the (Pan and Zoom) tab of animations whereas the Mac Version does not have this. At this point, I am still editing on Windows because I can edit my key frames much more quickly; and while it’s rendering, enjoy a nice “coffee break”. I’m dying for TechSmith to bring this feature to Mac that the Windows edition has had built in since at least v2019. Great video by the way.

      I also learned to use Camtasia Studio on the PC version. I'll have to do some more rendering editing on both machines and compare the work flow and results. I am still new to the M1 MB Air and Mac overall. The MB air was a B day present to myself after getting some extra moola from work.

      M1 macs render FAST! Otherwise on the PC side I would have an i7 or Ryzen 7 or better and lots of RAM. Also a fast M2 SSD.

      @@TheNerdIsIn if i buy i10 with 32 of RAM would i be as fast as your mac during rendering ?

    • @TheNerdIsIn
      @TheNerdIsIn  Před 3 lety

      I cannot say, but 577% faster than an i5 CPU is hard to beat by going to a very expensive high end Intel processor. Web search some rendering benchmarks on line.

    Hello, do you think that 8G of ram with m1 is enough for camtasia? I am a broadcaster and I only use it to record voice to videos. For about 4 continuous hours

    wow. Thanks!! You just saved me a few thousand dollars. I was going to wait for the pro update to the Mac 17"
    thinking i'd need the beef to run Camtasia. I think the new M1 Air is my new machine of choice!
    (do you know if we can run dual external monitors off the air?)

    • @TheNerdIsIn
      @TheNerdIsIn  Před 3 lety +1

      Officially, it supports 1 external monitor. There are ways to work around that. You can web search for information. Here is one article I found: www.iphonehacks.com/2021/02/m1-macbook-how-use-multiple-external-monitors.html

    Interesting - exporting video on my brand new M1 Mac takes about 8 hours for 1 hour of video!
    It’s all I use it for too. So what is curtailing CT in my system compared to yours??!

      I need to try a variety of my existing projects I did on my HP i5 PC on my M1 Mac. I'll have some time to do that this summer.

    Impressive export. But does the preview window when editing stutter? I had this issue with my old 2nd gen i5, and its extremely annoying. Does the M1 have it? Since it is emulating via rosetta. Thanks!

    • @TheNerdIsIn
      @TheNerdIsIn  Před 3 lety

      Once in a blue moon I get a stutter on the HP i5 PC. The biggest issue was changing the format of saving videos on my iPhone: Settings->Camera->Formats->Most Compatible. I have easily made over 150 videos on the PC version of Camtasia and the only issue was the H.264 format not playing well with Camtasia. I even have the preview window on my 2nd monitor full screen.
      I have not done much editing yet on the M1. In the plans real soon is a video on running customizing DOSbox on the M1 MacBook. Very similar to the PC DOSbox video I recently made. I’ll do it all on the M1.

    Where is the second part of this video, Camtasia is already optimized for M1. Please let us know the differences running this test again on M1 optimized version of Camtasia.

      It is unclear is Camtasia 2021 is M1 native. At some point I will buy a newer version of Camtasia, but it is not a cheap program.

    • @TheNerdIsIn
      @TheNerdIsIn  Před 3 lety

      Good News, Tech Smith did release a M1 version of Camtasia 2020. I have updated my 2020 version to the latest and run a quick test. I will do a video comparing new M1 version vs the old x86 version as soon as I complete a couple of video projects I have in progress. It was looking like I would have to upgrade to the 2021 version to get a M1 native version.
