Such an underrated film. I think one day it will raise to cult status like Jennifer’s Body I I can’t wait to watch again now having seen your analysis. I did remember thinking the fashion choices were so interesting but you articulated it a thousand times better than I ever could lol.

Thank you I appreciate you! Yess I totally agree! Part of the reason I wanted to make this video was to get together the fans of this movie cause I knew I wasn’t the only one obsessed with it! 🥰

She had an overall masculine aura and way of carrying herself, but she would be feminine in situations where woman had to be, like when dating a guy and so on.

Love fashion analyses like this. When done well, costumes can be a brilliant element of storytelling.

Wow, that is some good content. You are for sure underrated.
I'm curious about you statement, that Emily's style is as masculine as it can be. It seems like it, what can be more masculine than a three piece. But she is not falling out of "womanly picture", she has typical "womanly markers" - long hair, makeup, heels, you look at her and you see capital W Woman. So, I think it shows her manipulativeness even more, she knows the rules and plays them. She doesn't try to bend society's look on femininity, she follows it. I'm curious what do you think.
And instant subscribe click of course :)

Hi Polina! I appreciate you and your kind words. Glad you enjoyed it! In that specific sentence I meant their personalities! I agree with you and love your perspective. I think she uses the power of seduction and femininity when it's convenient for her. She sees the power in both masculinity and femininity and combines the two to create a very intimidating, powerful character for herself.

Very descriptive and informative about the fashion sense the the character has. I also think that when Emily was ripping off her dickies, it was to symbolise the layers of her personalities and intentions she has in life. Great Job Boss Queen

That was as perceptive as it was comprehensive. Even as a straight male, I couldn't help but notice the critical role the costuming played in this underrated film. Your reference to the social norms during WWII reminded me of an ex GF. She definitely used her appearance to make a statement - to the point she tattooed nylon seam lines on the back of her legs. I had recommended against it. As usual, she never listened to anything I said, and always seem to know what she was doing. She pulled it off, but she had the benefit of being young and ridiculously beautiful (truly) so people didn't care all that much. (And like Emily, she acted like she didn't care how she looked. But nothing could have been further from the truth!) I haven't seen her in 20 years. I wonder if she can still pull it off? Anyway, your essay was nicely put together, so to speak. BTW, are you allowed to say Louboutin?

I think being masculine is more of who Emily was, obviously. People don't Necessarily change at the core other than trying to be something else for a specific reason. It's important to go on a self discovery journey and understand who you are. Many "masculine" traits in other cultures are seen as feminine. Even in fiction with the Amazonians in wonder woman.

On the note of Smothers picking up things from Emilia, the moment in the black dress that she can’t take off is a real turning point!

Hi! I just watched the movie and as a person who likes to give the benefit of the doubt, I was left with the impression that Emily killed her sister because she didn’t want to go to jail and her sister threatened to tell the truth. It’s awesome that you can sew whatever you want!
