  • I have been washing my hair with rye flour and I am so happy with the results that I am sharing the benefits, the method, and any tips in this video.
    Use about 2 TBSP of rye flour for short hair, 4 TBSP for shoulder-length hair, and 6 TBSP for long hair. Once you get more comfortable with washing your hair with rye flour, you can tweak and adjust those measurements to your liking.

    Yestedray I washed my hair the first time with rye flour. I only washed my scalp, and for my waist long hair I have used 2tbs of rye flour. It cleaned my hair beautifully, and it is super soft and shiny. I have used an acv rinse after. My itchy scalp stopped being itchy straight away. I am so releived I have finally found a super simple, effective, cheap and sustainable way to wash my hair. Thanks for the video.

I tried the no-poo method with baking soda a number of years ago and she wasn't impressed (and neither was I, for that matter), but I really hate the ingredients in commercial shampoos and I'm having a hard time finding a natural one that I like. When I first saw the title of your video I thought...um, that is very strange...but I have enjoyed your other videos on making sour cream, cream cheese and bread so I watched it mostly out of curiosity. Then, when you showed how your hair looked dry, it did look clean! Hmm! 🤔 So I went ahead and ordered the rye flour and the brush too of course. I shall give it a try. I have health issues and so my hair is very dry, falls out and I have dandruff. The most appealing thing though is if I can go longer between washings. I am currently making lots of changes to save on buying products and with shortages in the supply chain it seems like a good idea. I have bought cloth paper towels, handkerchief for kleenex, cloth wipes and a bidet my husband will need to install to save on toilet paper. I just like the feeling of being more self sufficient. Anyway thank you for the videos. I appreciate them!

      That sounds like a recipe for brittle, damaged hair to me. Vinegar can be good for the scalp if dilluted properly but baking soda and hydrogen peroxide will seriously damage your hair. Any store bought shampoo would be better than this diy recipe...

    When I first started washing my hair I ground my own rye flour. I didn’t sift it. I loved it! It was foamy. I did end up with brown dandruff 😅. But it didn’t last long. My white rye flour that I bought is not foamy. I noticed you washed your scalp, but didn’t extend the rye to the ends of your hair-is that correct!

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  Před 3 lety +4

      Yes, I pretty much focus on applying the rye flour mixture to the roots. The rest of the hair doesn't need that much washing but will get some of the rye flour mixture as I rinse it out. Hope this helps 😊 ~ Anja

    Amazing!! I got away from commercial shampoos... started using Castile liquid soap that has no artificial colors..no petroleum derivatives.. or no animal ingredients or harsh detergents..paraben & phthalate free... I would be very interested in trying the flour. My only concern is it seems that you only put it on the scalp... 🥴. what about the actual hair? I love your videos! Thank you!❤️

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  Před 3 lety

      Yay! I am so glad you like this method. I am not so concerned about the rye only getting to the scalp and roots since 1) that is where the oils are and 2) as you're washing it out, the rye will also go down the hair. That should be enough unless you have a lot of product in your hair. Hope this helps and thank you for your nice comment 💛 ~ Anja
