      It's a modified Type R, K20A / K20Z engines can easily hit 9000+ rpm! Some even rev to 11'000 rpm !

      @@thevicarsmadhouse69 The engine's speed is completely separate to the gauge cluster. The redline is just an indication from the manufacturer, placed for 2 reasons: going into redline speeds puts additional wear on the engine, and generally the engine starts loosing power after the redline. In this case, this Honda Civic Type R's K20A2 is modified with the usual bolt ons (intake, header, exhaust), which causes the engine to make power even after the redline. Since these engines are bulletproof, it is safe to rev them to 9000 rpm (which is about when power drops off in this specific setup).
      Now, how do some K20s rev to 11'000 rpm ? For one, the engine is a perfectly balanced design: the bore and stroke (width and horizontal movement of the piston within the cylinder) are of the same lenght of 86 mm each. The longer the stroke of an engine, the more the piston will have to travel in 1 rotation of the crankshaft (higher piston speed): this is why Formula 1 engines have a very short stroke but a large bore (wide pistons, very little vertical travel), to be able to rev to 14'000+ rpm. Now, in order to make power at 11'000 rpm, you need bigger camshafts, with more duration (the lenght of time the valve remains open, allowing air into the engine) and more lift (how much the valve opens at it's maximum). Bigger camshafts not only increase power, but they move the entire powerband upwards into the revs. A K20 might make 320 hp at 11'000 rpm, but only 120 hp at 5000 rpm, while a K20 making 240 hp at 9000 rpm might make 140 hp at 5000 rpm. And revving to 11'000 requires upgraded internals (valve springs, retainers, higher compression pistons, connecting rods, oil pump etc). It is a costly process to rev a K20 to 11'000 rpm, and would be unsuitable for street usage! For a street car, 9500 rpm or 10'000 rpm is the upper limit for a K20. And cams allowing you to rev over 9500 rpm are going to be very rough under 4000 rpm, which is where you spend most of your time when driving on the street.

    I love this cars more than supercars because their driving is more intense, besides they are slower. Here you are feeling everything the car is doing, in those Ferraris and AMGs you have 300 km/h, but you don't have emotion like this
    Edit: if this was my car, I would shorten the 6th gear, because I think it's a bit too long

      Nah, it isn't. This car is not meant to go in straights, im a owner of one. Every turbocharged hatchback will smoke this ep3 in straights. The top speed of the car isnt insane neither. This type r is fast on the track, not running "full throttle".

    the other day i was impressed by my Integra type R, its stock and lost all its weight, i got an C63 AMG next to me with maybe best N/A mercedes Engine ever, we have been at 220km/h and raced making small pulls, it cant pull away that easyli from my small 1.8L Vtec engine i'm just impressed.

    had my ep3 8 year now also had fk8, astra vxr ,golf gti and more but the ep3 is the only one i never considered selling, fair enough others may of been quicker in a straight line but none gave me the excitement the ep3 has

    200 Nm torque is surprisingly low for such a 2 liter 200hp engine and even after tuning it gets just 220 Nm. The only that really helps is a high RPM up to 9K! This definitely makes difference

      Low? 100 Nm / L is quite normal for naturally aspirated engines. A supercharger would add noticable torque, whilst maintaining the responsiveness of the car. It's hard to increase torque without (virtually) increasing displacement.

    I dont think you will get 260hp out of this engines just with bolt on's on it. The s2000 has 240. To get 260 is a really hard one. Without other camshafts and a proper tune is really difficult.
