  • I review and compare Rain-X Extreme Temperature De-Icer and Super Tech Winter Formula windshield washer fluid. I purchased the most expensive and lease expensive winter washer fluids available at Walmart, and I test them against each other to see which is better.

    This is exactly what I was looking for this winter season after sifting through a bunch of garbage videos that did no testing. Thanks for making this!

    Thank you so much for the video! I happen to be struggling with which brand to choose today, and now I have my answer!

    The water beading technology works at higher speeds like 40 to 45 but it is really nice most of the time you don't have to use your windshield wipers on the highway after using rainx for a while even if it's pouring just flies right off

      Nice! Thanks for sharing!
      I have added rainex to my list of videos to make in the future. I could coat half of a windshield, then record the effects while driving at different speeds.

      Rainx is awesome when applied properly but from this video it seems that washer fluid doesn't actually apply it. Thanks for the video!

    I just bought the Rain X because I’ll be driving from New York to Florida next week. I installed a new set of Bosch Icon blades and rinsed my windshield with the Rain X and took a ride on the thruway on a rainy night. The water beaded up and rolled off as advertised. I typically use the cheaper blue fluid and know it does not do that so I am very satisfied with the results.

    I bought both of them other day. Thanks for sharing this. The rain-x was 2.47 at Walmart and cheaper one was 1.82 amazing how cheaper is better. Lol 😆

      Thanks! No problem! I was surprised as well. When I purchased them, I fully intended to put the good stuff, assumed to be Rain X at the time of purchase, in my wife’s car. I bought the cheap stuff for myself, because if it works, it’s good enough.
      After the test, I put the cheap stuff in my wife’s car, and the Rain X is still sitting on a shelf in my garage unused.

    Real world driving (upstate NY) I’ve found that the de-icer formula actually works better with heaters on and defrosting, and the rain-x helps lubercate the glass when other cars send salt and water mix back at you. I’ve used almost a gallon a day driving for my company of their supplied blue “crap” I call it lol. My personal truck I use the green rainX bug off and it works Amazing! I tried the orange stuff from rain x. But It’s bad at bugs and ice, but the purple de-icer and green de-bugger I’ve found work the best and I hate any car I get into that uses the blue if it’s bug season or below zero

    Water bead usually takes hold after a while, not just first application. Once it has a decent coat on the windshield after a few days of regular use the rain water beads up and the wind does most of the work when driving

    I was a diehard RainX fan until I saw this, thanks for the video. I'm still a fan of RainX wipers....next test video?
    So, I actually did the cup test with a Walmart brand called Splash that has similar claims. A full-size ice cube melted in 5min flat.

    What about a cold pour test in the winter temps?

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  Před rokem

      The fluids are rated for -20F and -30F. It does not typically get that cold here, and my freezer only goes down to 0F.

    Can you pour this directly into the the windshield fluid reservoir under the hood?

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  Před 2 lety

      You are correct, it is poured directly into the reservoir as is.
      I am planning a mini-series for general auto maintenance. I will add “how to add windshield washer fluid” to the list. Thanks.

      I just added it to my list of future videos. But it’s a long list! It seems to keep getting longer, not shorter, despite making a video pretty much every week for the last four years. So I can’t guarantee anything.

  • @LWWM
    @LWWM Před 3 lety

    Soooooo... I forgot that I had summer formula in my reservoir!!! So it's frozen and I have to keep bringing water to the car with me everyday and it won't be warm enough to melt for another week! This has been the longest 2 weeks of my life!

    • @HowtoandReviewsOfficial
      @HowtoandReviewsOfficial  Před 3 lety

      That’s rough! I get it; it’s currently 11 degrees here and not forecasted to get above freezing for another week.
      I’ve fortunately never ran into that problem. I suppose I have gotten lucky and always purchased all season or winter formula.
      I hope you find a way to drain it and refill it soon!

    Don't buy the rain-x one. I used it and it froze on my windshield making it really dangerous for me to drive because even when I wipe it off, the thin layer left by the wipers get frozen so quickly and blur the windshield.
    Maybe it is because I live in the midwest and it was -7 degrees Fahrenheit when it froze, but still dangerous.
