Thankyou so much for this video. My 6-yr-old son just helped me shaving cream the window before school after clearing 4" of wet spring snow off the van. I enjoyed a fog-free drive! My son has been subscribed to your channel since he was four years old and I never have to worry about what he will see in your videos. Back in my motorcycle riding days, I bought a new helmet that came with an anti-fog cloth. When the cloth wore out, I asked the cycle shop were to get another one and was told it was just dish soap 🧼 on the cloth. The reason the screen fogs up is the surface tension of the water droplets. The detergent reduces the surface tension and the droplets spread out in a continuous sheet of moisture and becomes invisible. I tried it and it has worked well for me the past 40 years. When my mother-in-law was having her window fogging problem, I told her he same thing and she had as good results as I had. Not everyone has spray shaving cream but everyone has dish soap.
I'm gonna try it! thanks!
@@MsOneironaut I used to ride a motorcycle and I used dish soap on my visor (I'm in the UK and Fairy Liquid was the best one) and it does work but you have to reapply every week to 10 days.

I am not surprised that sanitizer didn't work. Its primarily Isopropyl Alcohol, so it does an excellent job of cleaning the glass, so there's nothing there to stop the fogging.

Thanks Chris. I know this is a few years old but just wanted to say that this is now of particular usefulness to EV drivers. In general, the less you use climate control and/or heating in winter the greater range you have. I pre-heat my Kona so it's nice and toasty in the morning, and combined with heated seats and steering wheel I would never have to use heating or AC when driving if not for short blasts to clear the windscreen and side windows. Hopefully this will eliminate the need for that too.
Try it out and let us know how well it works?

A simpler fix is to make sure your car's ventilation controls are set to bring fresh air into the car. In other words, turn OFF the recirc control. As the humid air comes through the system, it will be heated by your car's heating system, thereby dropping the relative humidity in it and eliminating fogged windows. It helps if the defrost setting is used to direct the warm air onto the glass. ALSO, if the windows do get fogged, TURN ON your AC. That also serves to drop the relative humidity in the air. Read your owner's manual and it will point this out to you.
No special window treatments are needed!
Wow. You must be a genius
How to do this in winter when you want to run heat and not pull in dirty coal rolling air? 😝
@@DivineLightPaladin It's in winter when it works best! I'll bet the inside-air quality in your car is worse than the air that you are bringing in from outside. If it's not, then, well, you need to move because it's unhealthy to live where you do.
Lmao recirc is what keeps my windows from fogging.
I've done all this except the ac, cause you can't turn on what you don't have, but my windows still fog up like crazy every winter. I'll try the shaving cream before my night shift tonight. Anything is better than what I currently have.

GREAT strategy of a demonstration in 5 sections with 5 different products. Now we know what to do and use! Thx,
Another great helper to combat foggy windows or just moisture in your vehicle in general, is to buy some of those compact Silica Moisture Absorber containers, like you would use in a storage unit, outdoor shed, RV or closets in your home to keep everything dry. I buy 4 of them from the Dollar Tree and they last all year long and I never have a problem with excessive moisture in my ride or foggy windows. I put 2 in my car at a time, where no one can see them and then switch them out when needed. The water binding beads are on top and there is a collection chamber below, when it fills up with water, you simply just replace it!... Hope this helps someone else, it works great for me during winter and the rainy season! 👍🏻
or you can crack one window open works just as well.
@@patjohns1179 Ummmmm, cracking a window during high humidity, especially when its pouring down rain, is a good way to allow excessive moisture into the cabin of the vehicle, leading to moisture damage for sure. I do not suggest just cracking a window, unless you live in the dry, cold desert and have very low humidity to begin with!..
@@patjohns1179 no
Bull!
@@patjohns1179 doesn't work at all when you live in a cold country. Humidity from snow under your shoes is still less than humidity outside, + you don't want snow/rain through your window.
My experience with shaving cream is definitely re-apply it every couple weeks. I found that the UV rays will bake it onto the glass and create a horrible film that causes lots of glare and is tough to clean. Its especially dangerous during a rainy/snowy night...just my experience! Maintain that thin slick layer!
Def clean it off real good
I had my windshield replaced. I don't know what that guy used to clean it after he installed it. But I have had glare issues and some gross looking film on the windshield ever since ! 😣😠 and been too afraid to try anything on for fear of making it worse.

How far my man’s come. We love you bro.
Thank you, this video was very helpful. I live in a rainy winter climate and my car does a terrible job of defogging the windows, especially the side windows that get more and more fogged up especially if there are a bunch of people in the car. I tried an experiment - I put shaving cream on half the windshield and the 2 windows on the driver's side of the car. The next few times I drove around, those 2 windows stayed fairly clear while passenger windows on the other side fogged up! Clearly it worked. However, the windshield was smudged and affected my night vision and I just couldn't rub in the shaving cream enough so I ended up having to windex it away. Today I put shaving cream on the other 2 passenger windows, having those 4 windows remain fog-free will be a relief. I hope I don't have to reapply often before winter ends.

The first way to avoid fogging is to actually clean and decontaminate (from stuck in dirt & grime) the glass. Having dirt particles, or the off gassing residue from all the interior components, on the glass will make it fog waaaaay quicker. The moisture has something to cling to, so fog forms faster.
You are so right. I did this and it really makes a difference. Significantly less fog
You saved many lives with this!
Ive been using shaving gel for the small mirror in my shower for when I shave my head...never thought of using it in the car - thanks!!
Try overlaying the glass with wood. Will stop the moisture getting to the glass.
Even better, while not fogged up, take a photo out of each window. Print them out, glue them onto the wood. Because wood alone would look silly.
If the photos fog up, add a second layer of wood.
Ridiculous idea
Weight of the wood reduces handling and performance, use carbon fibre or aluminium instead
make sure to turn off you recirculation on ur AC so it pulls air from the outside. this does mean it will heat a little less effectively, but it will remove the moisture from the air in ur car, same thing from preventing the inside of your windows from frosting over with ice.

Randy Beltran I've tried cream on my bathroom mirror but didn't work very well. Maybe it has to be gel.
The obvious omission was how long each of shaving foam and rain X lasts. Given the active component of shaving foam in this context is basically glycerin, I’ll give you one guess. Hint: sunlight breaks down most chemicals. Also, shaving foam contains potassium hydroxide; I wonder what that might do to door rubber seals over time... (No I dont work for Rain X, but nor do I use dish washing detergent for washing car bodywork, coz, urm, I like it to continue to protect my car AND look good). There are cheap ways, and there are good ways.
